'Going nude was too much for Telugu audience': Sukumar on shelving raw scene in 'Pushpa'

Hyderabad, Dec 25 (IANS) The climax of 'Pushpa: The Rise' was to have originally featured actors Allu Arjun and Fahadh Fassil in the nude but the makers backed off, apprehensive of the response from the conservative Telugu audience.

In a conversation with the media, director Sukumar let the secret slip. "The climax confrontation scene is different from the one we originally shot," Sukumar revealed.

Disclosing the fact that both Allu Arjun and Fahadh Fassil were supposed to appear nude in the scene, Sukumar explains that only then would the scene have appealed in its rawest form.

"Allu Arjun and Fahadh were supposed to go nude for the climax scene. But, we did not go for it because going nude is too much for the Telugu audience," the 'Nannaku Prematho' director said.

Despite these changes, 'Pushpa: The Rise' is considered a movie close to reality, with a couple of raw scenes.

Staying true to the subject and hero's idiosyncrasy, Sukumar had shot a scene between Rashmika and Allu Arjun which also evoked a negative reaction from the audience.

Some of the viewers also had demanded the makers to take down that scene from the original print.

Sukumar also revealed that the second part - 'Pushpa: The Rule' - would be more earthy and raw.

Dhurandhar 2 Beats Pushpa 2 Tuesday by 10 Percent; Worldwide Gross Hits 937 Cr but Allu Arjun Starrer Retains 69 Cr India Lead

BY SACNILK

Dhurandhar 2 Box Office Collection Day 6: The Ranveer Singh-led espionage thriller, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, is establishing elite benchmarks for weekday endurance at the domestic box office. On its first Tuesday, the film netted a massive 56.60 crore across all languages, effectively outperforming the day 6 performance of the global blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule, which had collected 51.55 crore. While the Aditya Dhar directorial outpaced the Allu Arjun starrer by nearly 10 percent on its first Tuesday, the cumulative domestic lead remains with the latter due to a massive head-start in the southern markets. Market analysis indicates a stark divergence in the regional contribution for both films. While Dhurandhar 2 is performing like a solo-market titan in the Hindi belt with a 6-day net of 545.04 crore, it trails Pushpa 2 in the total India net standings. The primary differentiator is the Telugu market, where Pushpa 2 holds a monumental lead of 223.75 crore compared to the 20.27 crore managed by Dhurandhar 2. This regional gap allows Pushpa 2 to maintain a 69.28 crore lead in total India net collections despite the stronger weekday hold of the Ranveer Singh starrer. Dhurandhar 2 vs Pushpa 2: 6-Day Box Office Comparison METRICDHURANDHAR 2 (6 DAYS)PUSHPA 2 (6 DAYS) Tuesday Net (Day 6)₹ 56.60 Cr₹ 51.55 Cr Hindi Net (6 Days)₹ 545.04 Cr₹ 368.10 Cr Telugu Net (6 Days)₹ 20.27 Cr₹ 223.75 Cr Total India Net₹ 575.72 Cr₹ 645.00 Cr (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) A deeper dive into the market dynamics reveals that the 545.04 crore Hindi net of Dhurandhar 2 in just 6 days is significantly higher than the 223.75 crore Telugu net of Pushpa 2 in the same period. This highlights the unprecedented pull of the Ranveer Singh starrer in the Hindi heartland, where its single-language dominance has outperformed the home-territory contribution of the Allu Arjun blockbuster by more than double the volume. However, the factor that keeps Pushpa 2 in the overall India lead is the massive crossover support from the Hindi audience. While Dhurandhar 2 remains a single-region titan with minimal contribution from the South, Pushpa 2 successfully bridged the gap by collecting a staggering 368.10 crore(As of 6 Days) from its Hindi version in addition to its core Telugu numbers. This dual-market synergy is what allows the Sukumar directorial to maintain its domestic edge, as Dhurandhar 2 currently lacks the multi-regional footprint required to overtake the cumulative records of a true pan-India phenomenon. The total worldwide gross for Dhurandhar 2 has reached a staggering 937.49 crore within just six days, earning it an All-Time Blockbuster verdict. The film has seen an exceptionally strong contribution from the overseas market, which stands at 250.00 crore, representing 26.67 percent of the total worldwide business. The domestic gross collection has reached 687.49 crore, with the India net share accounting for 73.33 percent of the total earnings. The film is currently tracking at a pace that suggests it will comfortably cross the 1000 crore milestone by its eighth day. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Tuesday language split for Dhurandhar 2 further cements its status as a Hindi heartland phenomenon. Of the 56.60 crore earned on its sixth day, the Hindi version contributed 52 crore, followed by 3.1 crore from the Telugu version and 1.15 crore from the Tamil version. In comparison, Pushpa 2 saw a more balanced regional distribution on its first Tuesday, earning 36 crore from the Hindi version and 12.15 crore from the Telugu market. This indicates that while Pushpa 2 is a more rounded pan-India hit, Dhurandhar 2 is setting unprecedented records for a solo-language dominant film. The core takeaway from the first six days is the sheer volume of the Hindi market being tapped by the Dhurandhar wave. The 545 crore Hindi net in less than a week is a testament to the massive pull of the espionage genre and the technical brilliance of the project. However, the lack of a strong footprint in the Telugu states has prevented it from overtaking the cumulative domestic records of Pushpa 2 so far. As the film approaches its second weekend, the focus will be on whether the international momentum and the dominant Hindi run can bridge the 69 crore domestic gap with the Allu Arjun starrer.

The film's performance within India has been nothing short of a revolution, specifically in the North markets. While it is a Telugu original, the Hindi-dubbed version emerged as the primary engine of its success. The Hindi version alone has collected a massive ₹812.14 Crore Net, significantly outpacing the original Telugu version's ₹341.48 Crore Net. This dominance highlights Allu Arjun's unprecedented pan-India appeal and the growing appetite for Mass entertainers in the Hindi belt. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   The film's sustainability has been remarkable, maintaining a strong grip on theaters for over two months. This journey began with an explosive start on the global stage, where it raked in ₹66.00 Cr from overseas markets on Day 1 alone, topping the list of the highest opening day overseas grossers for any Indian film in 2024.After a record-shattering Week 1 collection of ₹725.8 Cr, the film continued to pull audiences, recording ₹264.8 Cr in Week 2 and ₹129.5 Cr in Week 3. Pushpa 3 Plans Dropped? Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule First Anniversary Post Hints At Goodbye To The Franchise

BY SACNILK

Hyderabad, December 5 - Superstar Allu Arjun sparked speculations about the future of his mega blockbuster Pushpa franchise after sharing an emotional anniversary post marking one year of Pushpa 2: The Rule. While fans were still hoping for some update on Pushpa 3, the actor instead penned a reflective message that sounded more like a heartfelt farewell than a continuation of the action drama franchise. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Allu Arjun's words have left many wondering whether the Pushpa franchise has quietly come to an end despite earlier confirmations from the team, especially from director Sukumar himself, about a third instalment. In his post on X, the actor wrote, "PUSHPA has been an unforgettable five-year journey in our lives," before expressing deep gratitude to audiences for the "immense love, strength, and courage" they gave the team. AA then went on to thank his co-stars, technicians, producers, distributors, and director Sukumar, referring to the entire experience in a tone fans felt was unusually conclusive. The actor concluded the post with, "With a heart full of gratitude once again... THANK YOU," without any mention of the franchise's plans. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Over the year or so, both Sukumar and the producers have hinted at a trilogy, and Pushpa 3: The Rampage was widely believed to be in development. However, Allu Arjun's anniversary note did not offer a single hint or assurance about the franchise's next chapter. Instead, the post has been interpreted by many as suggesting that the team may have wrapped up the saga with Pushpa 2, or at the very least, that the future of the third part remains uncertain. While the makers in previous interviews indicated that Pushpa would continue, the tone of Allu Arjun's message has hinted but confirmed that he has moved on from the epic journey, which kicked off in 2021. Until the official confirmation, the speculations will continue to swirl around whether Pushpa Raj's journey has reached its unexpected end — or whether Pushpa 3 is still silently in the works. Top Films With 100 Crore Openings At The Indian Box Office: Prabhas Dominates With Five Films

BY SACNILK

Hyderabad, September 26 - The Indian box office has seen several historic milestones over the last few years, but only a few films have managed to cross the coveted 100 crore mark on the first day in the domestic market. Dominated by Telugu origin films, the elite club is reserved for the biggest spectacles that not only ride on star power but also on unprecedented hype, massive release scales, and pan-India appeal. At the very top of the list is Pan India superstar Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, which stormed into cinemas with an earth-shattering 209 crore opening in India — the biggest single-day haul ever recorded in the country. Close on its heels are director SS Rajamouli's blockbusters RRR and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which grossed 156 crore and 153 crore respectively, setting benchmarks that seemed unbeatable at the time. Yash's KGF Chapter 2 followed with 134.50 crore, while Prabhas made his mark again with Kalki 2898 AD at 116 crore, Salaar at 107.10 crore, Saaho at 105 crore and Adipurush at 102.50 crore gross. The latest film in this prestigious club is Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG, which is estimated to gross over 100 crores in India. What's remarkable is that, except for one film, every single one of these 100 crore openers comes from South Indian cinema. The Telugu industry, in particular, has redefined the meaning of a "mass opening" in Indian cinema. Backed by visionary filmmakers like Rajamouli, Sukumar, Nag Ashwin, and Prashanth Neel, and powered by stars such as Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Yash, these films have created a cultural and commercial wave that Bollywood has yet to match. Today, breaching the 100 crore mark on opening day in India has become the ultimate benchmark for any big-ticket release. With upcoming projects from the same powerhouses — be it sequels, mythological spectacles, or high-octane action dramas — the club is only expected to expand further. As Indian cinema continues to scale new heights, these films remain towering examples of how a perfect mix of scale, vision, and star power can turn a release into a nationwide festival.
