Gunther Surpasses 650 Days As Intercontinental Champion With 100 Championship Defenses
Gunther, the dominant force known as "The Ring General," continues to etch his name in WWE history with his record-breaking Intercontinental Championship reign.
Gunther captured the gold from Shinsuke Nakamura in June 2022 and quickly surpassed Nakamura's 201-day reign. This past September, he achieved legendary status by dethroning The Honky Tonk Man's 35-year record for the longest reign with the Intercontinental Championship.
Drafted to Raw alongside his Imperium stablemates in 2023, Gunther's dominance hasn't wavered. He has defended the title a staggering 100 times across house shows, television, and premium live events, with his first defense coming against Ricochet in June 2022 and his most recent against Jey Uso earlier this month.
Last month, Gunther solidified his position as the most decorated Intercontinental Champion in history, not just for his singular reign, but for the combined total number of days held by all champions. This achievement further cements his legacy.
With WrestleMania 40 on the horizon, WWE has confirmed that Gunther will defend the Intercontinental Title against the formidable Sami Zayn.
