Hiroshi Tanahashi Forced To Withdraw From Upcoming Events Due To Rib Injury
It was revealed by New Japan Pro Wrestling on Wednesday night that Hiroshi Tanahashi will have to miss some scheduled appearances due to an ongoing rib injury sustained during Capitol Collision in Washington, D.C. on April 15th.
The injury seems to be more severe than previously anticipated, forcing the veteran wrestler to take some time off to recuperate. As a result, he will not be able to participate in some upcoming events as originally planned.
“After examination it has been determined that Tanahashi will be absent from forthcoming events on the Road to Dontaku Series starting today, April 20 in Nara, with a return date to be determined,” the statement on their website reads. Cards have been changed as a result of Tanahashi’s absence, which can be seen on NJPW’s schedule page.
During a three-way match for the Strong Tag Team titles, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada teamed up to take on Aussie Open and Motor City Machine Guns, but unfortunately, Tanahashi suffered an injury. The match resulted in a victory for Aussie Open. The following day, Tanahashi was withdrawn from the Collision event in Philadelphia, which forced a change in the main event. Instead of teaming with Lio Rush and Tomohiro Ishii against TJP and Aussie Open, Ishii and Rush had to compete in a Strong Tag Team title match, which they lost to the new champions.
Despite the setback, Tanahashi is still scheduled to face Will Ospreay at NJPW Resurgence on May 21 in Los Angeles. The winner of this highly anticipated match will earn the right to face Lance Archer at Dominion on June 4 at Osaka-jo Hall.
