Margot Robbie Set To Get Huge Salary For Mega Blockbuster 'Barbie'
Los Angeles, August 15 - Margot Robbie-led fantasy comedy film "Barbie" has done the unthinkable by grossing over $1 billion at the global box office. The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, is the highest-grosser of all time by a female director.
Made on a budget of around $130 million, "Barbie" has so far grossed $1.18 billion worldwide, and currently is the second highest-grossing movie of the year, behind "Super Mario Bros. Movie" which grossed $1.35 billion earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the mega-blockbuster box office success of "Barbie" set to earn Margot Robbie, who also produced, her biggest payday yet. According to Variety, the star and producer behind the summer's biggest hit stands to make roughly $50 million in salary and box office bonuses. "Barbie" director and co-writer Greta Gerwig will also likely receive bonuses because of the film's outsized success.
"Barbie" has become the second highest-grossing film in Warner Bros. Pictures' history after "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2". The latest blockbuster has earned an astonishing $526.3 million at the domestic (North America) box office, as well as $657.6 million at the international box office, for a total of $1.18 billion globally. It is projected to finish over $1.4 billion, which will make it the biggest grosser of the year.
