Matt Cardona's AEW Status: Surprise Appearance, No Signed Contract
Matt Cardona's surprise return to AEW at Collision on March 30th has fans buzzing, but the question of his future with the company remains unanswered.
Cardona, known as Zack Ryder in WWE, challenged Adam Copeland (Edge) for the TNT Championship in a thrilling opening match. This marked Cardona's first AEW appearance since 2020 and reignited memories of their past as "Edgeheads" in WWE.
According to Fightful Select, despite the exciting return, Cardona is not currently signed to AEW. His appearance came about due to a last-minute change to his existing booking for March 30th.
Originally scheduled to defend his Squared Circle Expo Championship against Ultimo Dragon, Cardona instead dropped the title to Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler) on March 29th, freeing him to accept the AEW opportunity in Canada.
While the match didn't go Cardona's way, it certainly left fans wanting more. Whether this was a one-off appearance or the beginning of a new chapter with AEW remains to be seen.
