'Munjya' Extend Maddock Films' Box Office Winning Streak
Mumbai, June 11 - Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films has found a way to win the box office battle against the wind. At a time when filmmakers are not willing to take risks and are betting on big-budget films to revive the box office, the studio is delivering success after success with relatively smaller titles.
Maddock has delivered 4 successes out of its last 5 theatrical releases with an excellent strike rate of 80%. Among the 4 successful films, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon's Bhediya was an average affair while others emerged as hits, including Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and the latest horror comedy Munjya.
Aditya Sarpotdar's directorial Munjya is the 4th movie in the studio's horror-comedy universe after Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya, and the second after Stree to emerge as a clean hit. The movie overperformed in its opening weekend to score 19+ crores net collection before putting up an excellent hold on Monday with a collection on par with Friday.
The Abhay Verma and Sharvari Wagh-starrer has scored approximately 23.25 crores net in 4 days and is comfortably heading towards finishing over 50 crores net. Irrespective of where the final collection of Munjya lends, it has emerged as one of the surprising clean hits of the year.
The success of Maddock Films production is not luck by chance as the studio has built a reputation among the general moviegoers by producing rooted and heartwarming films like Hindi Medium, Stree, Luka Chuppi, Bala, Love Aaj Kal, Mimi, and Dasvi, among others over the years. The success rate of Maddock Films is relatively higher when it comes to low to medium-budget films than other studio.
The next film in the studio's slate is John Abraham-fronted action thriller Tehran, followed by the highly-awaited Stree 2, Akshay Kumar's Sky Force, and Vicky Kaushal's Chhava this year. All the upcoming films of Maddock have the potential to emerge as big successes at the box office.
