NJPW Schedule 2023: Upcoming Events, Date
New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion that has been in operation since 1972. They hold multiple events throughout the year, showcasing some of the best wrestlers from Japan and around the world.
One of the biggest events of the year for NJPW is Wrestle Kingdom, which takes place on January 4th at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. This event is considered to be on par with WWE's WrestleMania and features the top wrestlers from NJPW competing in high-profile matches, including the IWGP Heavyweight Championship match. The event also features wrestlers from other promotions, such as Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling, in matches that are not seen on any other NJPW event.
Following Wrestle Kingdom, NJPW holds a series of events called New Beginning. These events take place in February and March, with shows in Sapporo, Osaka, and Tokyo. These events typically feature matches between wrestlers who did not compete at Wrestle Kingdom, as well as matches between wrestlers who did compete but are looking to build momentum for future matches.
In April, NJPW holds a one-day event called Sakura Genesis. This event is typically held in Tokyo and features matches that continue storylines from previous events, as well as matches that set up future matches and storylines.
May sees NJPW hold a two-day event called Wrestling Dontaku. This event is typically held in Fukuoka and features matches that continue storylines from previous events, as well as matches that set up future matches and storylines.
In June, NJPW holds a one-day event called Dominion. This event is typically held in Osaka and features matches that continue storylines from previous events, as well as matches that set up future matches and storylines.
July and August sees NJPW hold the G1 Climax tournament. This tournament features NJPW's top wrestlers competing in a round-robin format, with the winner receiving an opportunity to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The tournament features wrestlers from all over the world, and is considered to be one of the most prestigious tournaments in professional wrestling.
September and October sees NJPW hold a series of events called Destruction. These events take place in Hiroshima, Beppu, and Kobe. These events typically feature matches between wrestlers who did not compete at the G1 Climax, as well as
matches between wrestlers who did compete but are looking to build momentum for future matches. In November, NJPW holds a one-day event called Power Struggle. This event is typically held in Osaka and features matches that continue storylines from previous events, as well as matches that set up future matches and storylines.
November and December sees NJPW hold the World Tag League tournament. This tournament features NJPW's tag teams competing in a round-robin format, with the winner receiving an opportunity to challenge for the IWGP Tag Team Championship.
Finally, NJPW also holds an event in September called Fighting Spirit Unleashed. This event is typically held in Long Beach, California, USA. It features matches that continue storylines from previous events, as well as matches that set up future matches and storylines.
