Prithviraj Sukumaran Aims To Replicate SS Rajamouli Greatness For Malayalam Cinema

Kochi, December 11 - Prithviraj Sukumaran is one of the biggest stars in the Malayalam cinema at present. The actor has done over 100 films in a variety of roles and has received several awards. He also made his directorial debut with Mohanlal's "Lucifer", before directing him again in "Bro Daddy".

Malayalam cinema has been producing critically acclaimed films for a long time, however, it hasn't been able to spread its wings outside the local market yet, and that is something Prithviraj Sukumaran is looking to change. The highest-grossing Malayalam movie is Mohanlal's "Pulimurugan", which was released in 2016.



Prithviraj, whose future lineup, both as an actor and a director, is looking highly promising and is aiming to achieve for Malayalam cinema what SS Rajamouli has done for the Tollywood industry. Just like Mollywood, Tollywood too was largely restricted to just Telugu states, until Rajamouli's "Baahubali" was released in 2015 and changed the course of the Tollywood industry.

The huge success of "Baahubali" paved the way for Tollywood to go beyond boundaries and had success. The same was followed by the Tamil and Kannada industries and they too are having success outside their local markets.

Prithviraj, in a recent interview, said that he wants to do for the Malayalam film industry what SS Rajamouli did for the Telugu film industry. In short, he wants to replicate Rajamouli's greatness for Mollywood, and he has the best chance to do with the kind of films he has going forward.

The actor will start the sequel to "Lucifer" next year, and going by the reports and his recent remarks, "Lucifer 2" will be a Pan India movie. The first movie is already the second highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time. Prithviraj also has "Tyson", in which he will act along with directing it. It will be produced by KGF makers, Hombale Films, and will start production next year.
