Rey Mysterio Caps Off Incredible Comeback With WWE United States Championship Win

Chula Vista, August 11, 2023 - Unexpectedly, Rey Mysterio snagged the WWE United States Championship once again, in a twisty turn of events. The plan was for Santos Escobar to take on Austin Theory for the WWE United States Championship during the August 11 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown.

However, Theory tried to dodge his title defense duty by ambushing Santos backstage. He messed up Santos' knee and then ambushed him again as he tried to walk into the upcoming title match. But Theory's plan hit a snag when Santos Escobar gave the green light for Rey Mysterio to replace him in the title bout.



Rey Mysterio made the most of the opportunity and clinched his third WWE United States Championship by nailing Austin Theory with the 619 move.

They later spilled the beans that Rey Mysterio is set to show up on the Grayson Waller Effect during the August 18 episode of WWE SmackDown.
