SANADA Becomes The New IWGP World Champion At Sakura Genesis

In the main event of Sakura Genesis, a New Japan Pro Wrestling tournament, SANADA achieved a remarkable feat. He defeated Kazuchika Okada and clinched the coveted IWGP World Heavyweight Champion title, marking his first world championship win in his career.





To secure the win, SANADA executed his new finishing move, Deadfall, and pinned "The Rainmaker" Okada.





SANADA, the newest member of Just 5 Guys, utilized the New Japan Cup to not only bounce back but also discover a new edge to himself. He had been on a losing streak that made him question his position in NJPW, especially after he was overlooked for his mentor Keiji Muto's retirement match in favor of his former stablemate Tetsuya Naito. SANADA realized that he needed to make changes.





SANADA's title victory ended Okada's second reign with the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, which lasted for 95 days. This was the shortest reign in Okada's career.

SANADA is stepping up as the new challenger for Kota Ibushi. Tonight's event saw SANADA defeat EVIL. SANDA later showed up after the main event to challenge Ibushi.## The dual champion Kota Ibushi agreed to a future match, but date for the match wasn't announced. As nted Kota Ibushi is still the IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental Champion as he defeated Jay White on Night two of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 15.## On October 18, 2020, Kota Ibushi won the G1 Climax 30 by defeating Sanada in the finals, entitling him to a match for both the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and IWGP Intercontinental Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 15.## Ibushi unsuccessfully defended his Right to Challenge contract at Power Struggle on November 7, losing the contract to Jay White.
