Shawn Spears Bids Farewell to AEW After Five Phenomenal Years Of Unprecedented Growth

Shawn Spears is set to leave AEW.

Thursday afternoon, the news broke on Fightful Select that Shawn Spears will be departing AEW on January 1, transitioning into free agency. Following the report, Spears promptly took to social media to officially confirm the news.

What a wonderful time it has been.

Thank you @AEW for allowing me to be there from the ground level. It’s been a fantastic 5 years of growth and personal development.

This is a personal choice and one that is best for me and my family at this time.

Spears gained recognition primarily for his contributions to WWE. However, shortly after parting ways with WWE, he inked a deal with the newly established promotion All Elite Wrestling in May 2019, reclaiming his Shawn Spears moniker.

His final appearance in AEW took place at Zero Hour during All Out in 2023, where he competed in the Over The Budget Battle Royal. He was ultimately eliminated by Aussie Open. On December 23, Spears officially announced his departure from AEW.

It's worth noting that the announcement came four days after WWE Superstars Cassie Lee and Shawn Spears shared the exciting news that they are expecting their second child—a baby boy—in the year 2024.
