Sony's 'Uncharted' Surpasses Warner Bros. 'The Suicide Squad' At The Domestic Box Office
Los Angeles, February 24 - The Sony Pictures' video game adaptation, "Uncharted" has surpassed the entire domestic box office total of James Gunn-directed "The Suicide Squad", starring Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, and John Cena, among others, in just 6 days.
The Tom Holland-fronted adventure movie, based on the popular PlayStation game series from publisher Naughty Dog, "Uncharted" has grossed $57.9 million through Wednesday (Feb. 23), overtaking "The Suicide Squad" ($55.8M) along with "The Addams Family 2" ($56.5M), and "The Boss Baby 2" ($57.3M).
Warner Bros. "The Suicide Squad", based on the DC Comics team Suicide Squad, was a day-and-date release on HBO Max in 2021 while "Uncharted" is an exclusive theatrical release, which has been Sony's top priority, despite the covid-19 pandemic. On Thursday, it will cross "Tenet" ($58.5M), and "The Croods 2" ($58.6M) entire North American box office total.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer ("Venom"), "Uncharted" stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor Sullivan. In the film, Drake is recruited by Sullivan in a race against corrupt billionaire Santiago Moncada (Banderas) and his hired mercenary Jo Braddock (Gabrielle) to locate the treasure of the Magellan expedition.
