Los Angeles, September 18 - The Oscar-winning filmmaker, James Cameron said that the remastered version of his all-time highest-grossing film Avatar (2009) is gorgeous and that he was surprised after rewatching it on the big screen. ## The maverick filmmaker recently rewatched a fully remastered "Avatar" with his children, and it made him excited for the film’s upcoming rerelease in theaters. Cameron said that his kids have watched the movie on streaming or on Blu-ray, however, when they watched it on the big screen, they understood its grandeur a bit more. ## "Avatar" is getting rereleased on September 23 worldwide, and Cameron hopes that the young movie fans, who "never had the opportunity to see it in a movie theater" will watch it now. ## "Even though they think they may have seen the film, they really haven't seen it. And I was pleasantly surprised, not only at how well it holds up but how gorgeous it is in its remastered state", the filmmaker said in an interview with The New York Times (via THR).## "Avatar" follows Sam Worthington's Sully as he falls in love with Zoe Saldaña's Neytiri and their joint efforts to save Pandora, a lush habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system. Los Angeles, August 9 - Paramount Pictures has had great success with its video game adaptation Sonic films, and now, the studio is gearing up for another film in the series. ## Paramount announced the third installment of Sonic in February this year, much before the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The studio has now confirmed its release date as the iconic blue speedster will be hitting theaters on December 20, 2024. ## The first two Sonic films grossed over $720 million worldwide, which is massive for the film franchise as movies adapted from video games tend to bomb at the box office. 2020s Sonic the Hedgehog grossed over $319 million worldwide while its sequel which came out in April of this year went on to gross over 402 million. ## Sonic the Hedgehog 2 opened to a huge $72.1 million in a major boost for the domestic (North American) box office recovery. Los Angeles, April 28 - James Cameron's "Avatar" became the highest-grossing film of all time before Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Endgame" claimed the title in 2019. However, Disney re-released 2009's sci-fi epic in China last year and it helped "Avatar" to reclaim its title of the highest-grosser with $2.84 billion worldwide. ## James Cameron and Disney's focus is now on "Avatar 2", which is scheduled to release in theaters worldwide on December 16, 2022. Producer Jon Landau, however, announced at CinemaCon 2022, that the original movie will be re-released again on September 23rd this year, with restored pictures and sound. ## Jon Landau was talking at CinemaCon during Disney's slate presentation in Caesars Palace's Colosseum. During the event, Disney released the first stunning teaser/trailer of Cameron's "Avatar 2", which was released, exclusively in theaters with Disney/Marvel's "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness", and a week later, it was made available online for the viewers. ## The re-release of "Avatar" with a re-mastered version, will further strengthen its position at the box office where it has already grossed over $2.84 billion worldwide. Los Angeles, February 15 - "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is now the 3rd biggest-grossing movie at the domestic (North America) box office, beating James Cameron's 2009 sci-fi epic "Avatar's" $760.5 million. ## The total domestic gross collection of Tom Holland-fronted superhero movie has reached an estimated $760.9 million after collecting $1.6 million on Valentine's Day. There were doubts whether "No Way Home" would be able to beat "Avatar", and now, it can officially be said that it has busted those doubts and done the unimaginable in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic. ## Directed by Jon Watts, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has beaten the odds of the pandemic, however, this box office juggernaut is likely to stop with number 3 as it is unlikely to climb further heights in domestic markets. If it pushes really hard and does something which has never happened before, it will still need approx $100 million to beat "Avengers: Endgame" ($858 million) to reach 2nd spot at the domestic box office, which looks like an uphill task. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($936 million) remains in the first place. ## "Spider-Man: No Way Home", however, has played its part in glorifying the big-screen magic, in fact, it has done more than anyone had predicted at the time of the film's theatrical debut in December 2021. Los Angeles, July 10, 2021: The Thor: Love and Thunder actor, Matt Damon, may be one of the biggest Hollywood stars, but he will still be known for rejecting one of the biggest movies ever made, and with that, a golden chance to become an overnight millionaire. ## The 50-year-old actor taught a master class at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday and revealed how he had turned down the lead role in mega-blockbuster Avatar, despite James Cameron offering him a chunk of the film's profits. ## "I was offered a little movie called 'Avatar'," the star revealed, according to Deadline". [Director] James Cameron offered me 10% of it". For the record, Avatar is the highest-grossing movie ever with $2.8 billion at the box office. ## "I will go down in history… you will never meet an actor who turned down more money", Damon continued at Cannes where his crime drama film, Stillwater premiered. ## When someone in the audience pointed out that James Cameron is well underway on his sequels to the movie, Damon joked, "There are sequels? Oh my god". He, however, reasoned that he was shooting the Jason Bourne movies when Avatar was offered to him and took the "moral" decision not to leave that franchise in the lurch. ## In Damon's place, Sam Worthington was cast in the lead role and earned an award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films for his work but presumably didn't get 10% of the original's profits.## Avatar, which also starred Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, among others, was released in 2009 and its sequel is gearing up for the worldwide debut on 16 December 2022, followed by 3 more films in the franchise in 2024, 2026, and 2028. Avatar, which now falls under the Disney umbrella after the Fox acquisition, first became the top-selling global release of all time in 2010 when it passed Cameron's own 1997 Titanic. However, the time has come for Avengers: Endgame to handover its title of "highest grosser of all-time" to the previous holder, James Cameron's groundbreaking sci-fi epic, "Avatar". ## "Avatar", that released in 2009, was the highest grosser movie for almost a decade until "Endgame" took the worldwide box office by storm in 2019. But on Friday, "Avatar" returned to movie theaters in China, which is witnessing a massive boom post-Covid there, and grossed $3.5 million (according to Variety), pushing its total haul to a historic $2.7926 billion. After this weekend, "Avatar" is expected to take back the top box office prize.## Heading into Avatar's re-release this weekend in China, Avengers: Endgame stood at $858.37M domestic, $1.939 billion overseas for a total of $2.797 billion total.
