Chiyaan 61: The Next Big Thing In The Kollywood Film Industry

Chennai, October 12 - Tamil star 'Chiyaan' Vikram has done with all the promotional activities for Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1, which turned out to be the biggest grosser of his career. The multi-starrer period action drama is only the third Tamil movie ever to gross 400 crores at the worldwide box office. ## Chiyaan Vikram is now set to start his next film, tentatively referred to as Chiyaan 61 with director Pa Ranjith. The movie was announced some time back and as per the reports, the test shoot for the film has begun today and the first schedule of shooting is being planned to kickstart in the next couple of days.## "Chiyaan 61" is touted to be the next big thing in the Kollywood film industry. Produced by Gnanavel Raja under the banner of Studio Green, the movie is generating a lot of curiosity among the audience despite knowing that it hasn't started the shoot yet. ## Pa Ranjith is known for his unique cinema and as per him, his film with Vikram will be an interesting world and will give assurance to a community that has been searching for it for a long time. It is said to be a period drama set in Kolar gold fields in the 1800s. Pa Ranjith recently revealed that the team is planning to shoot in 3D as well, which will be a visual treat for the audience. ## The female lead of the movie is yet to be announced and according to the director, the film has a strong female character that travels throughout the film. Chennai, October 10 - Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has witnessed a drop on its second Monday, but not before entering the 400 crores gross club at the worldwide box office. ## The period action drama film scored an estimated 6 crores gross on its 11th day, dropping approx. 70% against the second Sunday while the same is around 74% from the first Monday. The big drop, however, was expected after the kind of the days the movie had at the box office. ## The second Monday estimate collection helps the movie to reach approx. 260 crores gross at the domestic box office while the worldwide stands at approx. 410 crores (counting expected overseas collection on the second Monday). In Tamil Nadu, "PS-1" is around 170 crores in 11 days and is expected to become the biggest movie in the state by the end of the second week. ## "PS-1" will have a free run at the Tamil Nadu box office till Diwali. It has a real chance to enter the 500 crores club and to become only the second Tamil movie ever to do so after Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's "2.0". ## On the other hand, the blockbuster Kannada movie, Kantara has had a sensational hold on its second Monday for an estimated 5.20 crores net or 6.10 crores gross collection, dropping just 46% from Sunday. Released on the same day as "PS-1" - "Kantara" scored a bigger second Monday (official numbers may vary) than Mani Ratnam's directorial though the collection is nowhere near due to the limited regional release. The total domestic gross total of "Kantara" now reached approx. 70 crores. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer adventure action thriller is now confirmed to break into 100 crores domestic gross for the Kannada version, and it will achieve this feat during the third weekend. Chennai, October 10 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam's epic blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has joined Indian blockbusters, RRR, KGF: Chapter 2, Vikram, and Brahmastra Part One - Shiva to cross 400 crores at the worldwide box office in 2022.## Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, "PS-1" is the third Tamil film of all-time to cross 400 crores worldwide, after Rajinikanth's "2.0", and the recent blockbuster "Vikram" starring Kamal Haasan. Los Angeles, October 9 - After breaking records at the domestic box office, Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time at the USA box office. The Mani Ratnam-directed film has crossed Rajinikanth's 2.0.## The period action drama film has so far grossed $5.56 million through the second Sunday (final number yet to report), overtaking "2.0" which grossed approx. $5.51 million in 2018. It is currently the 18th highest-grossing Indian film in North America. ## Among the films released in 2022 so far in the USA, "PS-1" is the 4th highest-grossing, after RRR, Brahmastra Part 1 - Shiva, and KGF 2. It is expected to finish with 4th biggest unless it really pushes hard to topple both "Brahmastra", and "KGF 2".## "Ponniyin Selvan - 1", on the other hand, has also become the highest-grossing Indian movie in 2022 in the United Kingdom. It outscored Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2 which grossed £1.15 million in its lifetime run at the UK box office. Chennai, October 9 - Blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 sees a small jump in its second Sunday box office collection at the domestic box office, after taking a huge jump of over 65% on Saturday. The collection, however, is huge with an estimated 18-19 crores gross on Sunday. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, "PS-1" has been doing exceptionally well so far and with Sunday's estimates, the total domestic gross collection has crossed the 250 crores mark for around 253 crores. At the Tamil Nadu box office, "PS-1" scored an estimated 14-15 crores on Sunday, pushing the total collection in the state to around 168 crores. ## "PS-1" has already become the second biggest movie in Tamil Nadu, and by the end of the second week, it is expected to become the biggest ever by crossing Kamal Haasan's "Vikram" which grossed approx. 180.50 crores. "PS-1" is on its way to becoming the first film ever to score 200 crores gross in Tamil Nadu state, and with the current trend, it may reach there by the end of the third weekend. ## The movie is also doing well in the dubbed Hindi version and reached about 21.80 crores gross, including an estimated 2.20 crores on Sunday. It is eyeing 30+ crores gross in the Hindi version in its lifetime run. ## On the other hand, Kannada sensation Kantara has crossed 50 crores net, after an estimated 9-9.50 crores on its second Sunday. Today was the biggest day for the movie so far at the domestic box office and with this, the movie has reached about 66 crores gross at the worldwide box office. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer adventure action thriller film is on its way to becoming another Kannada movie to score 100 crores at the box office. It is likely to reach there during the third weekend. Chennai, October 9 - After delivering the biggest blockbuster of his career in the form of Vikram, legendary actor Kamal Haasan has resumed the shoot of his most-awaited vigilante action drama Indian 2 with director Shankar. The movie is the sequel to their 1996 path-breaking blockbuster film. ## The journey for "Indian 2" hasn't had a smooth one as it had to go through many delays and postponements due to financial and other issues. There was a time when the movie almost got shelved, but thanks to the continued efforts by the producers, the shoot recently resumed and now currently going on in full swing. ## The movie will feature Kamal Haasan in the lead role along with Kajal Agarwal as the female lead, Gulshan Grover, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, and Bobby Simha, among others in supporting roles. The Hindi version of the movie was released by Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios.## Jayantilal Gada has had success this year with the Hindi version of South Indian films like "RRR", "Vikram", and "Sita Ramam" along with "PS-1", which has so far scored over 16 crores net. Interestingly, there will be the second parts of "Vikram" and "Ponniyin Selvan", and Jayantilal Gada believes that these two films will be huge hits in the Hindi version. ## "Vikram has established the future of this franchise in Hindi belts. Part 2 will be a blockbuster. The same can be said for PS 2 as well. More and more people will watch both Vikram and PS 1 on the OTT world until the sequel arrives. The total domestic gross collection is now approx. 235 crores. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, "PS-1" has crossed the 150 crores mark in the home state, Tamil Nadu, after scoring an estimated 11-12 crore gross on the second Friday. It is the fastest film ever to reach the milestone and is only the third film after "Vikram" and "Baahubali The Conclusion" to do so. ## "Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1" is sure to become the biggest grosser in Tamil Nadu while it also has real shot to become the first ever to enter 200 crores club. Chennai, October 7 - Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 scores excellent second Friday at the domestic box office after registering one of the biggest first weeks for an Indian movie. ## The epic period action drama film had grossed over 321 crores worldwide in the first week and begins the second week with a solid estimated 11-12 crores gross for all languages. The drop from Sunday is approx. 23% which is excellent hold. ## The movie grossed approx. 132 crores in the home state, Tamil Nadu in the first week, and adds another 7-8 crores more on the second Friday. The total gross collection of the movie in the state is approx. 138 crores which are the 5th highest of all time. Chennai, October 6 - The epic blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 holds strongly on its first Thursday and scored an estimated 13-14 crores, taking a total domestic gross collection to over 215 crores in one week. ## The movie continues to score in the home state, Tamil Nadu as it scored an estimated approx. 9 crores on Thursday. The total collection in the state has reached approx. 140 crores and it is expected to near 200 crores by the end of the second weekend. ## After the original Tamil language, the dubbed Hindi version has been the most fruitful for the movie. It minted 13.4 crores net in the first 6 days and mints approx. 80 lakh more on Thursday. At the worldwide box office, "PS-1" has crossed 330 crores after today's collection. ## Meanwhile, the Kannada movie Kantara has had another big day at the box office and minted an estimated 5.50 crores net on Thursday, dropping just 20% from yesterday. The first-week collection of this Rishab Shetty-starrer has reached approx. 38.50 crores net while worldwide, it is near the 50 crores mark. ## "Kantara" is the best-rated movie of all time on Book My Show and it is performing exceptionally well at the box office. Chennai, October 6 - One of the biggest Indian blockbusters of 2022, Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has created an all-time record for a Tamil movie in the United Kingdom. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, the epic period action drama film has become the first Tamil movie to £1 million (Rs. 9.3 crores). The previous record belonged to Kamal Haasan's recently released all-time blockbuster Vikram which grossed £0.881 million (£881K) in its lifetime run. ## "PS-1" took just 6 days to reach 1 million pounds in the UK. Interestingly, "PS-1" is the 43rd highest-grossing Indian film of all-time and the fourth of 2022 to score £1 million in the UK, after the highest-grossing Indian film of 2022 KGF: Chapter 2 (£1.15M), the highest-grossing Bollywood movie of the year, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (£1.03M), and RRR (£1.03M). ## Meanwhile, after breaking the Tamil movie record in the UK, "PS-1" is now on its way to becoming the biggest Tamil grosser in the USA as well. The movie has overtaken Rajinikanth's Kabali ($4.58M) for the second biggest movie with $4.64 million in the USA. Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's 2.0 is the biggest Tamil movie there with $5.51 million. ## Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, "PS-1" has also crossed Rs. 300 crores mark at the worldwide box office in just 6 days. Chennai, October 5 - Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions' epic period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 has crossed 300 crores at the worldwide box office through the first Wednesday (6 days). ## The Mani Ratnam-directed film scored an estimated 24 crores gross on its first Monday, dropping approx. 7% from Tuesday. The total domestic gross collection has also crossed the 200 crores mark, for approx. 201 crores. "PS-1" is the second Tamil movie of 2022 to score 200 crores gross domestically.## Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, "Ponniyin Selva - 1" continues to score big in the home state, Tamil Nadu as it grossed an estimated 17.50 crores more on Wednesday, pushing total collection in TN to over 130 crores in just 6 days. ## With the way "PS-1" is performing in Tamil Nadu, it is looking a sure shot 200 crores grosser in the state, which will make it the first ever film to achieve the feat. The movie is equally strong overseas for an estimated 115 crores gross till now, helping worldwide gross collection to reach over 315 crores after Wednesday.## Meanwhile, the Kannada movie Kantara is taking maximum use of the size of its release and turned out to be a massive blockbuster just like "PS-1". Kannada films have had great success this year, and "Kantara" is another huge blockbuster on the list. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer has grossed approx. 32 crores in the first five days, and it grossed an estimated 10.20 crores on its first Wednesday. Chennai, October 4 - Tamil blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is a one-horse race at the box office and is racing towards the 300 crores mark globally. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, the movie has another massive day at the domestic box office, as it grossed an estimated 26-28 crores on its first Tuesday, jumping over 20% from Monday. The total domestic gross collection has reached approx. 180 crores in just 5 days. ## As reported earlier, "PS-1" has crossed 100 crores gross mark in Tamil Nadu state and becomes the fastest film ever to achieve the milestone. It collects an estimated 19 crores on Tuesday, for a total of approx. 114 crores gross in the state. ## Meanwhile, the Hindi version of the film is surprisingly doing well and witnesses a jump of over 30% on its 5th day for an estimated 1.90 crores gross, pushing the total collection to approx 13.40 crores gross in the dubbed version. Worldwide, "PS-1" has grossed an estimated 284 crores (not counting the overseas total on Tuesday). The Tamil cinema has seen 6 films crossing the 100 crores mark at the worldwide box office in 2022, and the latest on the list is maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 which is re-writing records for an Indian film. ## The cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name is on a rampage mode in the home state, Tamil Nadu where the film had a record-breaking opening weekend. Chennai, October 3 - Mani Ratnam's epic period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is re-writing box office records for a Tamil movie and putting up a remarkable show. ## After the record-breaking opening weekend, the cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, witnesses an excellent hold on its first Monday as it drops just around 50% from Sunday. It grossed an estimated 23 crores for all languages, pushing total domestic gross collection to over 150 crores. ## In Tamil Nadu, "PS-1" is going berserk. After grossing a record-breaking 78.9 crores in the opening weekend, the movie scored an estimated 17 crores on Monday, taking the total gross collection to over 95 crores in the state. It will break into 100 crores by tomorrow and going by the latest trend, "PS-1" might become the first film ever to reach 200 crores in TN. ## Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, the "PS-1" original Tamil version has crossed 100 crores net, including an estimated 16 crores on Monday. The Hindi version too is proving a succesful venture approx. 10 crores net in 4 days. The Telugu and Kannada version have also crossed 15 crores net mark. ## "PS-1" is Mani Ratnam's biggest-grosser ever, in fact, it is his first 100 crores worldwide grosser which it acheived in less than two days. Box Office: 'PS-1' And 'Kantara' First Sunday Early Estimates

Chennai, October 2 - Mani Ratnam's blockbuster title Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is on a rampage mode at the domestic box office and has a bigger third day than the opening day collection. ## The movie, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, registered excellent occupancy throughout the first weekend as it surpassed 200 crores at the worldwide box office in just 3 days. It scored an estimated 43-45 crores gross on its first Sunday, pushing the total domestic box office to approx. 125 crores. ## The epic period action drama film has created an all-time record in Tamil Nadu for the opening weekend. With an estimated 27 crores gross on its third day, the movie's total gross collection in the state has reached approx. 78 crores which is the highest ever first weekend total in the state. ## The dubbed Hindi version of the film continues to see an upward trend and scored an estimated 3.50 crores net on Sunday. The total Hindi collection has reached approx. 8.50 crores net (10 crores gross). The advance booking for Monday is also good, confirming the film's blockbuster status. ## On the other hand, the Kannada film industry has another blockbuster in its hands in 2022 in the form of Rishab Shetty's Kantara. The movie is building up on strong word of mouth and looking unstoppable at the Kannada box office. ## Written and directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by Hombale Films, "Kantara" scored a jump of over 70% on the second day, and witnessed another jump of approx. 25% on Sunday for an estimated 8.50 crores net.
