Disney Bags The Streaming Rights To Sony Pictures Films After Netflix Window Expires

BY SACNILK

After the historic deal with Netflix earlier this month, Sony Pictures has now inked another landmark deal with Disney, which will allow the platform to stream Sony's films on its streaming and TV platforms. ## The new deal, which will cover Sony's entire theatrical slate from 2022-26, will bring the films to Disney-owned streaming services Disney+ and Hulu, as well as to Disney's linear TV networks, including ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic.## However, as per Sony's earlier deal, Netflix will have the right to stream Sony pictures first after they completed their theatrical run. And once the first pay window deal (which usually comes 18 months after a film hits theaters) with Netflix expires, the new deal will see Sony's titles hit Disney platforms for their Pay 2 windows.## Read - Netflix Acquires Streaming Rights To Sony Feature Films Starting In 2022 In US## The library titles include films from Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters, such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as well as films from the Hotel Transylvania and Jumanji franchises. Sony's upcoming 2022 slate includes Morbius, Uncharted, Bullet Train, and the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. ## Disney has been the streaming home for almost the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, except the Spider-Man films such as Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, which are currently not available at Disney's service. After the upcoming Netflix window expires, those films would be in play for Disney Plus. ## Stay tuned...

Netflix Acquires Streaming Rights To Sony Feature Films Starting In 2022 In US

BY SACNILK

The leading streaming giant, Netflix has grabbed gold by signing a new multiyear deal with Sony Pictures. According to the contract, Netflix will be the first to stream Sony Feature Films beginning from 2022 after they complete their theatrical run in the USA. These films include Uncharted, Morbius, Bullet Train & Where The Crawdads Sing, along with future sequels to Venom, Jumanji, Bad Boys & Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse.## Sony Pictures' primary pay-TV partner has been Starz, now owned by Lionsgate, since 2006. The new theatrical output deal with Netflix is believed to run about five years and is said to have worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the studio over the term. Industry sources said (according to Variety) Sony executives are working on another significant theatrical movie licensing pact outside the Netflix agreement.## Netflix is an obvious first pay window choice for Sony, given that the company already has a deal for its animated releases with Netflix. But the new deal is far more comprehensive and will see Sony's theatrical films from its Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Classics, Screen Gems, and TriStar Pictures studios all head to Netflix after completing their theatrical run. ## Starting in 2022, Netflix will be the first US streaming home for Sony Pictures films following their theatrical releases. But it doesn't stop Sony from selling direct-to-streaming titles to Netflix's rivals. In that case, however, Netflix would have to pass on the project for Sony to be able to sell it to another streamer.## "Netflix has been a terrific partner as we continue to expand our relationship. At Sony Pictures, we produce some of the biggest blockbusters and the most creative, original films in the industry. This exciting agreement further demonstrates the importance of that content to our distribution partners as they grow their audiences and deliver the very best in entertainment", said Keith Le Goy, SPE's president of worldwide distribution and networks, in a statement. ## Meanwhile, the new deal between Sony and Netflix won't include "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" because they release this year. ## Stay tuned...

Torbaaz Actor Raaj Arora Recalls How Well Sanjay Dutt Bonded With Kids On Flim's Set

BY SACNILK

Actor Raaj Singh Arora, who is currently seen in the recent Netflix released film Torbaaz, notes how the film's leading actor Sanjay Dutt has a way with children. He recalls how well Dutt bonded with children on the sets of the film while shooting in Kyrgyzstan.## "In the film, Sanjay sir takes up the challenge to protect kids from the shackles of religious terrorism. In fact for the shooting that took place in Kyrgyzstan, we had taken kids from various places all over the country to portray an ethnic mix. Sanjay sir and the kids bonded really well", Raaj who plays cricket coach in the movie said to IANS. ## "After the shooting hours, all of us would play games and engage in various fun activities. One could notice the playfulness of a mega actor then. I am sure that he is a doting father to his kids. The kids did not get intimidated with him, be it the beard, the voice, or the height", Raaj added.## "Having worked with young people a lot, Sanjay sir knew how to create the perfect environment. The kids being kids, at times do not understand what is happening. We soon began to eat and spend most of the time together. We were all gloomy on the last day of the shoot, especially Sanjay sir and the kids, now that the journey would be paused", Raaj recalled.## Directed by Girish Malik, Torbaaz is about child suicide bombers in Afghanistan, who have been trained to believe that killing the enemy is a virtue and glory in the afterlife. Sanjay Dutt plays the role of a medical professional that lost his wife and son while he was placed in the Indian Embassy in Kabul. ## Apart from Sanjay Dutt, and Raaj Arora, the movie also stars Rahul Dev, Nargis Fakhri, Gavie Chahal, and Kuwaarjeet Chopraa in the key roles. It streams on Netflix on December 11 skipping the originally planned theatrical release due to the covid-19 pandemic.## Stay tuned...

Government of India Brings OTT Platforms and Digital News Outlets Under I&B Ministry

BY SACNILK

Coming as a significant move, the governement of India has brought the OTT platforms, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Disney+Hotstar among many others, along with news websites, under the purview of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.## The central government's move to bring the OTT platforms under the I&B ministry could also mean that these platforms would have to apply for certification and approval of the content they wish to stream from the I&B ministry. ## The move is clearly a big setback for the OTT platforms which will now they have to keep a check on the content they made. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta who recently saw immense success with his web series Scam 1992 expressed his disappointment at the government's order. ## Talking to indianexpress.com, the director said, "While this decision wasn't unexpected, it is still a reason for despair. This desperation for control of free speech and expression does not augur well. I am currently very disappointed".## Karan Anshuman, known for directing web series like Inside Edge and Mirzapur, called the move "unacceptable". Taking to Twitter, "Unacceptable. Viewers and creators have to band together and challenge censorship in any and every manner!".## "Whatever happened to the understanding with Mr Javadekar that OTT will be self-regulated? The govt is giving in to the basest demands of prudes. How is this progress in any manner? Don't like it, don't watch it. Don't impose your regressive views on a billion people", he added. ## Whatever happened to the understanding with Mr Javadekar that OTT will be self-regulated?
