After the historic deal with Netflix earlier this month, Sony Pictures has now inked another landmark deal with Disney, which will allow the platform to stream Sony's films on its streaming and TV platforms. ## The new deal, which will cover Sony's entire theatrical slate from 2022-26, will bring the films to Disney-owned streaming services Disney+ and Hulu, as well as to Disney's linear TV networks, including ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic.## However, as per Sony's earlier deal, Netflix will have the right to stream Sony pictures first after they completed their theatrical run. The leading streaming giant, Netflix has grabbed gold by signing a new multiyear deal with Sony Pictures. According to the contract, Netflix will be the first to stream Sony Feature Films beginning from 2022 after they complete their theatrical run in the USA. These films include Uncharted, Morbius, Bullet Train & Where The Crawdads Sing, along with future sequels to Venom, Jumanji, Bad Boys & Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse.## Sony Pictures' primary pay-TV partner has been Starz, now owned by Lionsgate, since 2006. The new theatrical output deal with Netflix is believed to run about five years and is said to have worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the studio over the term. Industry sources said (according to Variety) Sony executives are working on another significant theatrical movie licensing pact outside the Netflix agreement.## Netflix is an obvious first pay window choice for Sony, given that the company already has a deal for its animated releases with Netflix. The leading streaming platforms are having tough times in dealing with new content from the last couple of months. After a controversy over the Tandav series, Amazon Prime Video was recently directed by the Bombay High Court to take down the Telugu movie, "V" over a complaint filed by actress Sakshi Malik. ## Now, Netflix has also become a subject to streaming objectionable content. This time, an Indian government agency for protecting child rights has asked Netflix to immediately stop streaming its new drama series "Bombay Begums" after it reviewed complaints around scenes showing children consuming drugs. ## In a letter to Netflix on Thursday, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) asked the streaming giant to investigate the matter and submit a report within 24 hours or face further action. The NCPCR notice referred to a tweet where a user objected to a scene showing "minors having cocaine".## "The series with this type of content will not only pollute the young minds of children, and may also result in abuse and exploitation of children", the NCPCR notice said.## Released this week, "Bombay Begums" is a series about five women from different parts of society trying to get ahead in modern Mumbai, formerly called Bombay. Streaming giant Netflix on Wednesday announced the slate of its upcoming releases which will be streaming on its platform in 2021. The slate includes a total of 41 titles including the next seasons of Delhi Crime, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, Mismatched, Kota Factory, Little Things, and others. ## This year, Netflix India will also release original true crime documentaries, one of which is based on Ma Anand Sheela apart from the comedy show of Kapil Sharma. The streamer shared the news on its official Twitter page in a video featuring some of the stars attached to these projects.## The titles include action movie "Red Notice", starring Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson along with Zack Snyder's zombie film "Army of the Dead", political satire "Don't Look Up", featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio, and musical "Tik, Tik… Boom!" which is Lin Manuel Miranda's directorial debut, among others. The list also includes acquisitions like Halle Berry's directorial debut "Bruised" and "Malcolm & Marie", starring Zendaya and John David Washington.## The line-up also comprises the third chapters of the hit Netflix franchises — "To All The Boys I've Loved Before" and "The Kissing Booth". In what comes as a proud moment for India, Delhi Crime - the web-series won the Best Drama Series award at the 48th International Emmys on Monday. Streaming giant Netflix on Friday announced that the platform will be available free for everyone on December 5 and 6 in India. Anyone in India can watch all the content available on the OTT platform for two days starting from 12 midnight on December 5.## "We think that giving away everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have, the service and how it works", Greg Peters, COO and Chief Product Officer at Netflix, said during the company's earnings call.## "At Netflix, we want to bring the most amazing stories from across the world to all fans of entertainment in India. It's why we're hosting StreamFest: an entire weekend of free Netflix", the company said in a statement.## Last month, Netflix announced its plans to give users in India access to free streaming for a weekend. Coming as a significant move, the governement of India has brought the OTT platforms, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Disney+Hotstar among many others, along with news websites, under the purview of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.## The central government's move to bring the OTT platforms under the I&B ministry could also mean that these platforms would have to apply for certification and approval of the content they wish to stream from the I&B ministry. ## The move is clearly a big setback for the OTT platforms which will now they have to keep a check on the content they made. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta who recently saw immense success with his web series Scam 1992 expressed his disappointment at the government's order. ## Talking to indianexpress.com, the director said, "While this decision wasn't unexpected, it is still a reason for despair. This desperation for control of free speech and expression does not augur well. I am currently very disappointed".## Karan Anshuman, known for directing web series like Inside Edge and Mirzapur, called the move "unacceptable". Taking to Twitter, "Unacceptable. Known for playing different roles, Keerthy is portraying the character of Samyuktha who is determined to become a self-made success. ## The trailer of "Miss India" dropped on Saturday (October 24) and has been receiving a brilliant response from the viewers. Keerthy believes that the movie will inspire young women who have dreams and want to follow their hearts and passions. She also talked about her role in the movie. ## "Miss India is the beautifully crafted story of Samyukhta, who is determined to not let anything stop her from achieving her dreams. I'm glad this film will get a global audience because I feel like it will encourage and inspire many young women to follow their hearts and passions, regardless of the language that they would watch it in", Keerthy said to India TV. ## "Miss India traces the journey of Samyukhta Manasa (Keerthy), a young passionate girl who, in an attempt to fulfill her grandfather's dream and her own childhood ambition, reinvents herself as she moves to the USA, setting up a successful business in tea", she added.## Directed by Narendra Nath, the movie was earlier scheduled for a theatrical release in the month of April but the makers had to postpone it due to the covid-19 pandemic. And now, it is set to premiere on Netflix on 4 November 2020. ## Apart from Keerthy Suresh, the movie will also feature, Jagapati Babu, Nadia Moidu (Nadhiya), Rajendra Prasad, Naveen Chandra, VK Naresh, and Pujita Ponnada in the prominant roles.
