Box Office: Sooryavanshi Go Past 150 Crores India Net After Strong Second Weekend

Mumbai, November 15 - Sooryavanshi continued its box office juggernaut and scored a brilliant ₹ 30.68 crores (estimate) in the second weekend. The strong second weekend helped this Akshay Kumar-fronted to go past ₹ 150 crores net in India, the 6th highest domestic figure for him. ## "Sooryavanshi" dropped 50% from the first Sunday for its second Sunday collection of ₹ 13.39 crores and down by 60% on the second weekend as compared to ₹ 77.08 crores in the opening Diwali weekend. The current domestic net collection for Rohit Shetty-directed stands at ₹ 151.23 crores after 10 days.## Overseas, "Sooryavanshi" has grossed approx ₹ 50 crores so far, which is the best overseas box office number for a Bollywood movie since December 2019 when Akshay's own film, "Good Newwz" grossed ₹ 74 crores. The total worldwide box office collection of "Sooryavanshi" stands at ₹ 228 crores, which is again, 6th highest gross worldwide total for the Bell Bottom actor. ## Katrina Kaif, who plays the female lead in "Sooryavanshi" also scored her 6th highest domestic earner. For director Rohit Shetty, "Sooryavanshi" becomes the 4th highest domestic net collection film, after "Simmba" (₹ 340 cr.), "Chennai Express" (₹ 227 cr.), and "Golmaal Again" (₹ 205.69 cr.). ## On the other hand, the Tamil movie "Annaatthe", featuring superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role, has crossed ₹ 100 crores net the domestic box office. The action drama film has had a fantastic start, scoring over ₹ 82 crores in the opening 4-day weekend (Thu-Sun), however, due to heavy rainfall and flood-like situation in Tamil Nadu, the collection got affected. Over the second weekend, it earned ₹ 5.90 crores, which helps Siva-directed to cross the ₹ 100 crore mark. ## Overseas, "Annaatthe" has earned approx ₹ 45 crores so far, taking its total worldwide gross to ₹ 163 crores. It has released over 1100 screens overseas in 66 countries, which is the widest ever release for a Tamil movie. Prithviraj Teaser: Another Legendary Shot In The Arms Of Akshay Kumar!

Mumbai, November 15 - Yash Raj Films has waited long enough to bring its upcoming slate of films to the theaters, kicking off with "Bunty And Babli 2" on November 19. While YRF will hope to get the success of the sequel, the studio has all its eyes on the biggest film in its confirmed slate, "Prithviraj", of which, the teaser was unveiled on November 15 along with the first look of the primary cast. ## Written and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, "Prithviraj" stars Akshay Kumar in the role of Hindu Samrat, Prithviraj Chauhan. The first look teaser, which got released without pre-announcement on Nov. 15, introduces Akshay's character as "the lion of Hindustan". Visually stunning, the teaser is all about valor and heroism. It is packed with fight scenes and the background music is the soul of it, which is given by Sanchit Balhara, Ankit Balhara. Manush Nandan takes care of cinematography. ## The film is based on the life of fearless Prithviraj Chauhan, a legendary warrior who fought valiantly against the merciless invader Muhammad of Ghor. Rohit Shetty Shuts Down A Journalist For Questioning The Casting Of The Villain In Sooryavanshi

Mumbai, November 15 - Filmmaker Rohit Shetty having an interview tour over the super success of his recently released, "Sooryavanshi", which he held back for more than 18 months to give a theatrical release. The Akshay Kumar-fronted cop-drama is very well accepted by the audiences and everyone has nice things to say about this film. ## However, despite all the love and positive word of mouth from the audiences of every type, there is a certain media group that has been questioning the casting of the villain of a Muslim outfit in the film. In a recent interview with The Quint (via opindia), the journalist pointed out that the 'good Muslim' and 'bad Muslim' scenario in the film is problematic.## Rohit Shetty, however, countered the question with a befitting reply and asked the journalist why no one had a problem when he cast Hindu villains in his previous three cop films. He questioned why the Hindu villains from the previous films were not objected to because of their caste. ## "If I ask you one question... Jaikant Shikre (in Singham) was a Hindu Marathi. Then a second film came where a Hindu godman was there. Then in Simmba, Durva Ranade was a Maharashtrian again. In these three, negative forces were Hindu, why isn't that a problem?" Shetty countered. ## He went on to say when the journalist tried to counter his remarks, "If there is a terrorist who is from Pakistan, what caste will he be?" Shetty said that such controversies had changed his point of view about many journalists. He said, "It changed my point of view of a few journalists whom I used to like. That oh, they are portraying it like I have seen in brackets somebody writing bad Muslims being preached by upper-caste Hindus, which is very wrong. We never thought that way".## The basic plot of "Sooryavanshi" is about Pakistani terrorists plotting more attacks in India after the 1993 Mumbai blasts, and the hero's efforts to stop them. Shetty's cop films have always been centered around celebrating Police for the good work they are doing on the line of duty. When The Quint journalist asked Shetty about his point of view on Police brutality, Shetty said, "Whoever asks me about my viewpoint on Police brutality, I only ask them to shut down Police headquarters for one day. Box Office: Sooryavashi Storms Past Rs. 200 Crores At The Worldwide Box Office

Mumbai, November 14 - For the first time since "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" in January 2020, a Bollywood film, "Sooryavanshi", has crossed ₹ 200 crores at the worldwide box office. The biggest Bollywood film after Ajay Devgn-fronted has given a new lease of life to the Hindi film industry that was hit really hard by the covid-19 pandemic. ## "Sooryavanshi", which stars Akshay Kumar in the title role alongside Katrina Kaif as the female lead, reached the box office milestone after just 9 days of release. The film currently stands at ₹ 206.65 crores gross at the worldwide box office, including ₹ 162.65 crores at the India box office. ## Rohit Shetty-directed witnessed a significant growth of 51.54% on the second Saturday as compared to the second Friday for a double-digit figure of ₹ 10.35 crores net. This takes the total India net collection for the film to ₹ 137.84 crores and makes it the sixth highest-grossing film for Akshay Kumar. It also becomes Akshay's 9th highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office. ## "Sooryavanshi" is the continuation and is the 4th film in Shetty's cop universe. It also stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh as Singham and Simmba in the extended cameos. After finishing the opening week on high with ₹ 120 crores, Rohit Shetty-directed netted another ₹ 6.83 crores on the second Friday (November 12), helping it reach India's net total of ₹ 127.49 crores in the first 8 days (Fri-Fri).## The second Friday total of "Sooryavanshi" ensured that it entered the top 10 highest-grossing films for Akshay Kumar. Mumbai, November 13 - The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has expressed its gratitude towards filmmaker Rohit Shetty for helping the cine workers during the covid-19 crisis and also celebrated the blockbuster success of Shetty's "Sooryavanshi" at a special function in Mumbai on Friday (November 12). ## BN Tiwari, president of FWICE said, "Rohit was the first one to come out and donate money for the technicians and workers of the film industry. Shahid Kapoor Confirms His Thriller Film With Sultan Director Ali Abbas Zafar

Mumbai, November 12 - Actor Shahid Kapoor has started shooting for director Ali Abbas Zafar's next, a crime thriller film, in Abu Dhabi. It was first reported in August this year that Kabir Singh star would be teaming up with Sultan director, though at that time, the shooting timeline wasn't confirmed. ## The yet-untitled film is said to be the Hindi remake of a French film, Nuit Blanche, in which, Shahid will reportedly be playing the role of a cop who is chasing drug lords across the city. The film is being produced by Ali Abbas Zafar himself under his banner Offside Entertainment. ## Shahid took to Twitter and shared the picture with Ali as both having a laugh. "Blood... Crime ... Rohit Shetty's Next In Cop Universe, Singham 3 To Be Set Against The Backdrop Of Article 370 In Kashmir?

Mumbai, November 11 - Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has set the bar a notch higher with each of the films in his cop universe, which had begun with Ajay Devgn-fronted "Singham" in 2011. Akshay Kumar-starrer "Sooryavanshi", which was released on November 5, is the latest film in Shetty's cop world and with this, he has maintained his hit status. ## The maverick director will once again be back to give the third installment of the Singham franchise, and with this, he aims to take his cop franchise to the next level. The last Singham film, "Singham Returns", was released in 2014, and since then, there were rumors of the third part but it wasn't made official. ## While Shetty hasn't announced "Singham 3" officially yet, it was revealed that after the release of Sooryavanshi, the filmmaker has locked the plans for the third Singham installment. The movie will kick off where Sooryavanshi ended, and according to reports, Ajay Devgn will be up against terrorists in the film and it will reportedly be set against the backdrop of the removal of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir. ## Reports have also stated that the draft is still in progress and the makers are all set to take the project on floors next year in September after Ajay Devgn completes his ongoing projects. The buzz around the development is that it will be shot in the real locations of Kashmir apart from Delhi, and Goa in a quick span. ## The makers have reportedly set the Independence Day 2023 big screen release date of the film. Sooryavanshi Beats Covid-19 Pandemic To Enter Rs. 100 Crore Club; Crosses Rs. 150 Crores Worldwide

Mumbai, November 10 - Rohit Shetty-directed "Sooryavanshi" has done what other Bollywood films couldn't do in the last one and 1 half year. The Akshay Kumar-starrer cop drama becomes the first Hindi film during the covid-19 pandemic to cross ₹ 100 crores net at the domestic box office. ## The 4th installment in Shetty's cop universe, "Sooryavanshi" remained super solid on weekdays after taking the biggest 3-day opening weekend start for Akshay with ₹ 77.08 crores (Fri-Sun). It netted ₹ 14.51 crores on Monday (excellent by all means) and dropped 22.67% on Tuesday for ₹ 11.22 crores (another superb hold). The five-day total stands at ₹ 102.81 crores with a gross total of ₹ 122.50 crores. ## It has become the 93rd Hindi film to enter the 100 crore club. It also becomes the 15th 100 crore film for Akshay Kumar, jointly most with Salman Khan. For Rohit Shetty, it is hit 9th ₹ 100 crores netted film. Interestingly, all his last nine movies (including Sooryavanshi) have crossed ₹ 100 crore net at the box office while for Katrina Kaif, who plays the female lead, it is her 8th 100 crores netted film. ## Overseas, "Sooryavanshi" has earned approx ₹ 30 crores in the first five days, and takes its total worldwide collection to over ₹ 150 crores (₹ 152.50 crores). The Entire Shoot Of Prabhas-Fronted 'Adipurush' Is Completed

Mumbai, November 10 - The entire shoot of possibly the most-awaited and the biggest film of the Indian cinema, "Adipurush", led by Prabhas, has been completed on November 9. The magnum opus feature film was shot in over 100 days, after taking off in February this year. ## The shoot went through a lot of hurdles due to the covid-19 pandemic, but the makers have done very well to complete it 10 months before the release is planned. Kriti Sanon was the first to complete her portion, followed by Saif Ali Khan. Prabhas had wrapped his part on November 4. ## Directed by Tanhaji fame, Om Raut, "Adipurush" is an adaption of the Hindu epic Ramayana. Prabhas plays Lord Ram in the film while Kriti Sanon essays the role of Sita/Janaki. Saif Ali Khan, who played the antagonist Udaybhan Singh Rathore in Raut's Tanhaji, portrays Lankesh/Raavan in Adiupursh while Sunny Singh plays Laxman and Vatsal Sheth plays Indrajeet in the mega-budgeted film. ## "Adipurush" will be mounted on a heavy VFX, and as reported earlier, it will take nearly 10 months in post-production work. The good thing in favor of post-production is that the release date of Adipurush, which is set for 11 August 2022, is nearly 10 months from now, so it should be completely ready by then. ## It is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Om Raut, Prasad Sutar, and Rajesh Nair under the banners of T-series and Retrophiles. Kangana Ranaut's 'Dhaakad' Producer Sohel Maklai And Director Razneesh Ghai To Reunite For A Indo-China War Film

Mumbai, November 9 - The makers of Kangana Ranaut-fronted "Dhaakad" are joining hands for a new film. While "Dhaakad" is months away from the release, producer Sohel Maklai, and director Razneesh 'Razy' Ghai have confirmed that they are teaming up for a war film that will be based on the story of Rezang La’s battle that was the sole high point for India in 1962 Indo-China war. ## Talking about the new film, Razneesh said, "It's a classic David-versus-Goliath story. The war story teaches young people the true value of the Army. The story of 120 soldiers fighting against all odds demands to be told sincerely on the big screen. It's set in the 60s, so recreating that era will take some time". ## The movie will be produced by Sohel Maklai and Razneesh 'Razy' Ghai's new company Ikigai Motion Pictures while Rajiv G Menon will pen the screenplay. The casting of the film will be announced soon as Razneesh Ghai revealed that he is in talks with an A-list star to play the main role. Shooting will begin in the second half of 2022.## "Just a good story doesn't cut it anymore. A film has to offer scale, performances, and action that matches the international standards", added the director. "War films in India usually aren’t mounted on a [grand canvas]. But I believe in Razy's vision", said producer Maklai. ## Meanwhile, "Dhaakad", which features Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, is scheduled to release on 8 April 2022.
