Warner Bros. Officially Delays 'Dune: Part 2' and 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire'

Los Angeles, August 25 - As SAG-AFTRA strikes continue to hit Hollywood, Warner Bros. Pictures is left with no choice but to postpone the release of its highly-anticipated sci-fi epic "Dune: Part 2" to next year from its original November 3, 2023, date.## Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the sequel, which will continue the story of Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, will now be hitting big screens on March 15, 2024. It was revealed last month that the studio is planning to shift the release date of "Dune 2" if strikes continue and now, the official announcement has been made regarding the same.## As part of the shift, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire", which was slated for March 14, 2024, has now been pushed back one month to April 12, 2024. It is the sequel to "Godzilla vs. Kong" (2021) and is the latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise from Legendary and Warner Bros.## The postponement of "Dune 2" is going to benefit Marvel Studios' "The Marvels" which is scheduled to hit cinemas on November 10 this year. Los Angeles, August 21 - DC Studios' latest superhero movie "Blue Beetle" has a lower opening than expected at the domestic (North America) box office. The movie, however, dethroned Margot Robbie's mega-blockbuster " Barbie" to claim the number 1 spot during the weekend of August 18-20.## "Blue Beetle" scored $25.4 million in its opening weekend, which is the second lowest opening in the modern DC era, ahead of just "Wonder Woman 1984" ($16.7 million) which had a debacle day and date release on HBO Max during the peak of covid-19 pandemic in December 2020.## Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, "Blue Beetle" was expected to project to score $30 million which would have still made it the lowest DC starter in 2023, behind "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" which grossed $30.1 million earlier this year.## At the international box office, "Blue Beetle" starring Xolo Maridueña as the alien symbiote, added $18 million from 63 markets. With $43 million globally, it's one of the softest starts in the history of the DC Cinematic Universe. The family comedy titled "F Plus (F+)" was announced recently, featuring Big E (Ettore Ewen) as part of the cast alongside former UFC two-division champion and action star Randy Couture. The screenplay was penned by Jonathan Davenport, a wrestling gear designer and a friend of Big E's. ## In the movie, Big E will portray the character Cliff Barker, though the specific details of his role are currently undisclosed. Mumbai, August 14 - Christopher Nolan's highest-grossing movie in India, "Oppenheimer" has a good third weekend at the Indian box office despite facing competition with a few of the Indian movies that are running riot. ## The Cillian Murphy-led atom bomb movie clocked approx. 6.50 crores in the fourth weekend, pushing the total gross collection to approx. 147 crores. It will finish over 150 crores gross thus emerging superhit at the Indian box office. It is also the highest-grossing Hollywood movie in India this year.## The biggest advantage "Oppenheimer" is having the IMAX screens on which it is performing exceptionally well. In its 4th weekend in India, the IMAX gross collection of the movie is approx. 3.50 crores while the total gross so far in this format is over 30 crores which is about 20% of the total collection.## "Oppenheimer" has so far grossed approx. $650 million (5390 crores) at the global box office through 4th Sunday. The movie is nearing the 100 crores net mark while it has already crossed this milestone in gross collection. ## "Oppenheimer" has been shot entirely in IMAX cameras and not so surprisingly, it is proving to be an IMAX wonder around the globe. In India, the movie has been exceptional as far as the IMAX format is concerned. On its second Monday, it is running with over 60% occupancy in IMAX, and the same response is expected for the next couple of weeks. ## In IMAX, "Oppenheimer" has crossed a huge 20 crores gross mark in just 11 days in India, the fastest movie ever to reach this mark. In the first week, it grossed 13.10 crores in IMAX while in the second week, the movie scored 7.50 crores gross (4 days) for a total of 20.60 crores gross in 11 days. It will reach 25 crores mark by the end of the second week and this will be almost 1/4 of its total collection.## Meanwhile, Tom Cruise's "Mission Impossible 7" was also released in IMAX and it grossed just 8.15 crores in 9 days before all the IMAX screens were shifted for "Oppenheimer". The first two movies, "Venom", and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" opened in the month of October in 2018 and 2021, respectively. ## "Venom 3" release date puts in-between Disney's "Mufasa: The Lion King" (July 5, 2024) and Universal Pictures' "Twisters" (July 19, 2024). Tom Hardy has written the script for the third Venom installment with Kelly Marcel, who is also stepping into the director's chair to helm the Marvel superhero movie. ## The first Venom movie was highly successful, grossing $856 million at the worldwide box office. The sequel was released during the covid-19 pandemic and still grossed $502 million.
