Michael B. Jordan on getting directing lessons from Denzel Washington

Los Angeles, Dec 25 (IANS) Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan is preparing to make his directorial debut with 'Creed III', the latest chapter in Adonis Creed's saga, which is set to hit theatres on Thanksgiving 2022. ## When news broke that Jordan would take the helm of the franchise, in addition to starring as the boxing champ, the first-time feature filmmaker released a statement explaining why he wanted to take on the challenge. ## "Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right," Jordan stated. ## "'Creed III' is that moment, a time in my life where I've grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment." ## Jordan worked with Washington on the true-life romantic drama 'A Journal for Jordan', which is now in theatres, where he picked up a few tips from the two-time Oscar winner and four-time director, reports variety.com. ## Washington recounted his conversations about directing with Jordan, saying that his first piece of honest advice was to "prepare, prepare, prepare". ## "It's much harder than you think because he's acting and directing,a Washington told Variety. ## "But (Michael's) motivated and he's very, very bright, so I'm sure he will do well." ## "He's full of quotes and advice and a lot of gems," Jordan added about learning from the storied entertainer. ## In particular, Jordan keyed into the filmmaker's preparation process, describing Washington's rehearsals as "spot-on and intense". ## "I think we did three weeks before we started filming, which I think is incredible," Jordan shared. "I've always done rehearsals before, but I think on ('Creed'), I'm going to make sure I get enough rehearsals to really massage the scenes that I feel like are the biggest days for my cast, once we actually start production." ## The cast for 'Creed III' is slowly coming together, as Jordan is expected to be reunited with Adonis Creed's on-screen love, Bianca (Tessa Thompson) and mother (Phylicia Rashad), with 'Lovecraft Country' and 'The Harder They Fall' star Jonathan Majors joining the crew as the story's mysterious antagonist. ## "Jonathan's just an incredible actor, an incredible person," Jordan said, explaining why he felt Majors would make the perfect sparring partner. ## "Me and him, we just connected the first time we spoke. And then when I pitched him the film, he hit me right back and it was all go from there, you know? So, he was bought in." ## Jordan added: "He has so many different talents, and things that he brings to the table. He was just perfect for the role, so it was a match made in heaven. I'm extremely lucky. We're very blessed to have him and I can't wait for everybody to see what we do." ## Majors recently opened up to Variety about squaring off against Jordan and playing the antagonist, versus the leading man roles he's landed lately. ## Majors also shared how his training regimen has affected him personally. "This is something my coach said: 'People live the way they fight'. So you learn a lot about yourself when you're training, and you can surprise yourself." ## And through the intense boxing workouts, Majors tapped into something profound about his acting. "It's just you and your fatigue, and when the body gives out, you can explore the spirit," he said. ## For more and the latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned to us.

IANS Review: 'Don't Look Up': Mirrors the dysfunctional state of politics and media (IANS Rating: **1/2)

Film: 'Don't Look Up' (Streaming on Netflix); Duration: 138 minutes ## Director: Adam McKay ## Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Evans, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, Mark Rylance, Timothee Chalamet ## IANS Rating: **1/2 ## Director Adam McKay's 'Don't Look Up' is a sci-fi-based goofy satire that gets uncomfortably real. At its core, it delivers a very sharp treatise on the dysfunctional state of affairs in politics and media, in which everyone is so short-sighted as to be unable to focus on an existential threat. The film begins with a pair of Michigan State astronomers, Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), and his Ph.D. Student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) discovering a huge comet. But the excitement of the discovery soon fizzles out when they realise that the comet's trajectory leads to a direct collision with Earth in a little over six months, and it will cause an extinction-level event. ## Understandably alarmed, they rush to the White House to inform President Orlean (Meryl Steep), who along with her son and chief of staff Jason Orlean (Jonah Hill), does not take the duo seriously. The astronomers struggle to get their message across because no one wants to hear bad news. So, they then attempt to break the news of their findings via the media. They appear on the morning news talk show anchored by Jack Bremmer (Tyler Perry) and Brie Evantee (Cate Blanchett), who stand out as self-absorbed TV anchors. Here they are told to keep things light. When Kate explodes in frustration and tells the hosts that doomsday is near, she becomes a meme. ## Then there is a tech billionaire Peter Isherwell (Mark Rylance), who sees opportunities to cash in on the comet's natural resources. ## The premise of the film may sound absurd- if it did not feel so close to reality. The narrative races with a scathing indictment of everything about our media and political ecosystem. It makes you open your eyes at; the erosion of our ability to react in time, to understand that something awful could happen, and it is happening right now. ## The seriousness of the issue gets thawed with the piling up of celebrities in minor roles with their specific agenda or subplots who basically serve as flashy and somewhat unnecessary window dressing. So, what starts on a serious, hot-dramatic note gradually becomes a lukewarm comedic flawed tale. ## While Meryl Streep and Jonah Hill act as caricatures, the rest of the entire cast delivers an earnest performance. ## Overall, the title 'Don't Look Up' aptly implies the Ostrich syndrome, which we humans often indulge. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Updates.

Neil Patrick Harris might get his kids a tarantula for Christmas

Los Angeles, Dec 24 (IANS) Actor Neil Patrick Harris thinks he can top his Christmas gift-giving game after he gave his kids a Golden Retriever puppy. ## Speaking on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' to guest host, he said: "Now the kids want a hedgehog, an actual hedgehog because they see the videos on TikTok of hedgehog's being so cute ## "Santa's not about to get them a hedgehog! Maybe a tarantula, that'd be cool. They look scary but once I think if you owned one you would realise that they're cute just misunderstood." ## The '8-bit Christmas' star also spoke about his upcoming role in the third instalment of 'The Matrix' franchise, reports femalefirst.co.uk. ## Patrick will be playing The Analyst in the sci-fi blockbuster, and he was surprised that his character's cat was real and not a CGI animal. ## He added: "There was a cat wrangler, who knew, and there were four different cats, each cat came and did it's own thing. One would be the one that runs and jumps and one would be the one that sits and there were two cats who's job was just to stand there." ## Neil quipped that if he was ever reincarnated, he would love to be one. ## The actor said: "If I was ever resurrected that would be a great gig - to be a movie cat, that your job is just to stay there and eat treats." ## He said working on 'The Matrix Resurrections' - which has been directed by Lana Wachowski - was "a pleasure". ## Neil said: "The movie is so fun I'm super proud of it and Lana Wachowski is an amazing director and human being. It's a pleasure to be a part of." ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates

Peter Dinklage: People should move on from 'Game of Thrones' finale

Los Angeles, Dec 24 (IANS) Actor Peter Dinklage wants people to "move on" from the 'Game of Thrones' finale, as he believes the series did a good job of "subverting" people's expectations. ## A Change.org petition was launched when the show wrapped calling for a re-do, but Dinklage says people just wanted to see "the pretty white people" have a happy ending, reports femalefirst.co.uk. ## He said: "They wanted the pretty white people to ride off into the sunset together. By the way, it's fiction. There's dragons in it. Move on." ## The 'Cyrano' actor also said the fantasy series was good at "subverting" viewer expectations, and said he particularly liked the scenes in which a dragon burned the iron throne - as it signalled that no-one would be crowned King or Queen of Westeros at the end of the series. ## He added: "No, but the show subverts what you think, and that's what I love about it. Yeah, it was called 'Game of Thrones', but at the end, the whole dialogue when people would approach me on the street was, 'Who's going to be on the throne?'. I don't know why that was their takeaway because the show really was more than that. ## "One of my favourite moments was when the dragon burned the throne because it sort of just killed that whole conversation, which is really irreverent and kind of brilliant on behalf of the show's creators: 'Shut up, it's not about that.' ## "They constantly did that, where you thought one thing and they delivered another. Everybody had their own stories going on while watching that show, but nobody's was as good as what the show delivered, I think." ## The actor thinks the main reason people were unhappy with the ending of the show was because they didn't like the idea of the drama no longer being on air. ## He told The New York Times: "I think the reason there was some backlash about the ending is because they were angry at us for breaking up with them. ## "We were going off the air and they didn't know what to do with their Sunday nights anymore. They wanted more, so they backlashed about that. We had to end when we did, because what the show was really good at was breaking preconceived notions: Villains became heroes, and heroes became villains. ## "It was the right time. No less, no more. You don't want to wear out your welcome, although I'm not sure that show could have." ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

Jessica Alba: I didn't enjoy being an actress when I was younger

Los Angeles, Dec 24 (IANS) Actress Jessica Alba, who landed her first film role in 'Camp Nowhere in 1994 when she was just 13, didn't have "fun" as an actress when she was younger, because she was "wildly insecure" about her abilities and didn't feel "worthy" of attention. ## She said: "(I was) so wildly insecure about my abilities as an actress. I felt so judged. I was my worst critic. I think I didn't feel worthy." ## The actress shared that she was left "paralyzed with fear" during the early stages of her career, and said she "never had a real liberating, fun experience" while shooting some of her earlier films, reports femalefirst.co.uk. ## Speaking about her co-stars, she added: "I just admired people who just were swaggy on set. It felt like they were just in the zone, and you could tell when someone is in the zone and when they just feel good." ## The 'LA's Finest' actress eventually took a break from acting, and said the hiatus has brought her "real joy". ## She said: "I think taking a break for so long from it and literally having no consequence to whether it works or not, it allows me to have the freedom as a storyteller to just be completely present and try things and I really love it. And it's brought me real joy." ## Alba also said it wasn't until she was 30 that she felt she was able to focus more on her life journey and less on the outcome. ## She told the aLet's Be Real with Sammy Jaye' podcast: "I just think all of the outcomes were so disappointing, in Hollywood especially. I was like, 'This is so out of my control! Why?' ## "You would have a big weather issue and if 80 per cent of the country is frozen, guess who's not going to the movie theatre that opening weekend? But you're slotted for that certain opening weekend a 10 years, someone had spent on this project. ## "You've spent at least two years of your life and you think it's going to turn out some way, and then the country's frozen over and no one can leave their house. ## "Does that mean it's a failure? No. Does that mean, can they take away from your experience creating it and wanting it to be good? No. But I always looked at that final sort of outcome as what it should have been." ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

Jay Z compares Beyonce to Michael Jackson

Los Angeles, Dec 24 (IANS) - Music producer Jay Z compared his singer-wife Beyonce to the late 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson in a recent chat with Alicia Keys on Twitter Spaces, saying Beyonce has surpassed Jackson with her iconic 2018 Coachella performances. ## He said: "Bey's gonna be mad at (me) for saying this but Michael Jackson never had a Coachella. The kids are the same. Find me a concert that's as culturally relevant and thrilling as Coachella. Beyonce is gonna be one of the best singers we ever heard because she is such a student." ## Back in 2015, Charlamagne Tha God also compared Beyonce and Jackson, reports femalefirst.co.uk. ## Charlamagne Tha God had said: "I think she's the greatest entertainer that our generation has seen. I mean, the previous generation had Michael Jackson. But for our generation, I think it's Beyonce. ## "And I even put you can't compare anybody to anybody. Michael Jackson is a god. He's legendary. He's on a totally different level. ## "But Beyonce, if she's not already, she absolutely will be on that same level. She will be looked upon in the same regards, if not more, as Michael Jackson was. That's just the truth to the matter. People hate when I say that, but you'll see in the future. It's gonna happen." ## Beyonce previously pair tribute to Michael, who died from acute Propofol intoxication in 2009, saying: "(Michael) taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on. If you feel silly, you have to go from the gut just let it go." ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

Chris Noth accused of sexual assault by 5th woman

Los Angeles, Dec 24 (IANS) Another woman has come forward with allegations against actor Chris Noth, becoming the fifth person this month to accuse the 'Sex and the City' and 'Law and Order' star of sexual assault. ## In a press conference with her attorney Gloria Allred, singer-songwriter Lisa Gentile claimed she was "sexually victimised" and "sexually abused" by Noth in 2002. She claimed Noth forcibly pulled her, kissed her and touched her breasts, reports variety.com.## "I was trying to get him to stop," Gentile said.## The day after the alleged incident, Gentile claims Noth called her and said if she "ever told a soul about what happened the night before, that he would ruin my career, I would never sing again and he would blacklist me in the business".## Noth has previously denied all other allegations, calling them "categorically false".## Gentile says she first met Noth in 1998 at a restaurant in the theater district of New York City where the actor was a regular and she was friends with the owner.## Eventually, she and Noth became acquaintances and would chat about music and show business. One night in early 2002, Noth offered her a ride home from the restaurant, and she accepted, since the two were friendly.## She says Noth asked if he could come up, and said he just wanted to see where she lived.## "He started kissing me almost right away. Then he leaned against the kitchen countertop and forcibly pulled me against him; he was slobbering all over me," Gentile alleged during Thursday's press conference.## "I quickly became uncomfortable."## She said Noth then became "more aggressive" and began squeezing her breasts.## "I kept pushing his hands down while he was pushing mine up. I was trying to get him to stop.## "He then forced my hands to pull up his shirt exposing his belly and then even harder pushed my hands down towards his penis. I finally managed to push him away and get out of his grasp and yelled, 'No, I don't want this'.## "He became extremely angry and started screaming calling me a 'tease' and a 'bitch'." Gentile alleged, before he "stormed out" of her apartment.## The next morning, Gentile claims Noth called to warn her that he would blacklist her from the business if she ever spoke of what happened, and then hung up on her.## Allred declined to specify details regarding if and when Gentile and Noth saw each other again, but said it had been "a long time ago".## "I was afraid to come forward because of Mr. Noth's power and his threats to ruin my career," Gentile said.## At the time of the alleged incident, Noth had already been a prominent star on 'Law & Order', and was currently a famous sex symbol on 'Sex and the City' which had become a massive global phenomenon.## Gentile told reporters she was coming forward in hopes of changing legislature relating to sexual abuse. Because her alleged incident with Noth would have occurred nearly 20 years ago, the statute of limitations has passed. Allred said her client "believes it is time for the law to change and that is why she is speaking out today".## "I believe we should have our day in court to hold Mr. Noth accountable for what he did," Gentile said, speaking on behalf of the other women who have recently accused Noth of sexual assault.## Prior to Gentile's press conference, two women anonymously told The Hollywood Reporter, in a report published last week, that Noth assaulted them on separate occasions, in 2004 and 2015.## Shortly after, a third woman spoke to The Daily Beast, alleging sexual assault in 2010.## In the wake of the allegations, Noth was swiftly dropped by his talent agency, A3 Artists Agency, and was also fired from the series 'The Equalizer'.## Days before The Hollywood Reporter expose was published, Noth had garnered much attention as his iconic 'Sex and the City' character, Mr. Big, was surprisingly killed off the reboot, 'And Just Like That'.## With Noth making headlines, news reports regarding his former girlfriend, supermodel Beverly Johnson, who dated the actor for five years in the early 1990s, have resurfaced, including a 1995 newspaper entry from the National Enquirer, which more than two decades ago printed the headline "Shocking Court Papers Claim Top Model Battered By 'Law & Order' Star".## This week, Page Six uncovered court documents that reveal Johnson filed a restraining order against Noth in 1995, after claiming he made repeated calls threatening to "kill" her.## "Chris Noth punched me in the chest and ribs, injuring my ribs, making it difficult to breathe, punching and bruising my face and body in which I had to have medical attention," Johnson alleged in court documents. "On July 27, 1995, he made repeated threats on my life, making up to 25 calls per day threatening to kill me (and) destroy my face. Threatened to kill dog." ## A judge granted the temporary restraining order, which Johnson filed for in August 1995. A few months later, the order was modified into a mutual restraining order. ## In 1993, the Daily News ran an article that alleged Johnson had punched Noth in the face. After the mutual restraining order was granted, both Johnson and Both agreed to stay 500 yards away from each other, and not to make derogatory statements about one another. ## Noth's representatives did not respond to Varietyas request for comment regarding Johnson, and Noth has not made any recent comments to the media, regarding Johnson or the restraining order. ## This week, an actor on a'ex in the City', who worked as Kristin Davis' stand-in for four seasons when she was in her mid-20s, penned an essay for The Independent, calling Noth's behavior on-set "disgusting" and "toxic". ## She alleged Noth slid his hand down her back and "over my butt". ## The female stars of 'And Just Like That' -- Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Sarah Jessica Parker -- addressed the allegations against Noth in a joint statement this week. ## "We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth. We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it," the three actors stated. ## During Thursday's press conference, Allred urged Noth's 'Sex and the City' co-stars Parker, Nixon and Davis to publicly express support for the Adult Survivors Act in New York state, which would allow sexual assault victims to seek justice, after the statute of limitations has passed. ## Noth has denied all previous accusations. In response to the women alleging rape and assault in The Hollywood Reporter, Noth said the instances were consensual. ## In response to the woman who anonymously came forward to The Daily Beast, a representative for Noth said the story was "a complete fabrication" and that "Chris has no knowledge of who this individual is". ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

IANS Review: 'The Matrix Resurrections': Astutely mounted yet peculiar (IANS Rating: ***)

There has been an aura of obsession and nostalgia with the Matrix franchise ever since the first film in 1999. Thence we have had two other Matrix films in quick succession, which were released in 2003. ## 'The Matrix Resurrections' is the fourth film of its franchise and is the sequel to its last release, 'The Matrix Revolutions,' which hit theatres nearly 18 years ago. ## This film caters to its fan base, and thus, those who are not initiated into the Matrix universe would find themselves in an alien world, not knowing what is happening on screen. ## With events taking place nearly two decades after 'Revolutions', and unlike its trilogy where the future of humanity was being threatened, this film feels more of a love story within its action drama. ## At the core of the narrative are the resurrected Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), who are hidden within the code and kept on a short leash. This is done to prevent them from getting together and causing another system collapse. ## But when a group of humans from the outside world led by a blue-haired gunslinger named Bugs (Jessica Henwick), discovers that Thomas Anderson, a world-famous video designer working at Deux Machina, is actually the legendary Neo and that he is still alive, they try to break him out of the matrix and seek his help to once again save humanity. ## But Neo, after meeting Trinity by happenstance insists that the group's priority must be to rescue Trinity who, is oblivious of her past and now lives with her three children and a husband. Since she can get out of the Matrix through her own free will, Neo has to remind her of who she once was and the love that they shared. ## The plot is complex, convoluted, and at times amateurish, with an over-explanation of events from the past. Despite its brisk pacing, subtlety is not a strong point in the film. There is footage from the trilogy that appears often also, at one stage, there is a group of creative directors discussing what the Matrix is all about. ## As for the action sequences, the film boasts of chaotic car chases, gunfights, and gravity-defying stunts, but all of them offer nothing extraordinary in terms of experiences. There is an over-abundance and overuse of special effects that, at some point, get irritating. ## The fights are poorly mounted, and with the ridiculous number of cuts, the scenes appear absurdly choppy even if you ignore that, the choreography itself seems languid and sluggish. ## As for the performances, the chemistry between Reeves and Moss is palpable, but not in the same way that one had witnessed in the previous Matrix films. Here their engagement is soft and endearing. ## Priyanka Chopra is confidence personified and striking in a small part, essaying Sati, a role earlier portrayed by Tanveer K. Atwal. ## All others in the supporting cast have loads of fun with their characters and have their moments of on-screen glory. ## Overall, the film despite being astutely and impressively staged seems to be a bit chaotic and peculiar. ## Film: 'The Matrix Resurrections' (Showing in theatres); Duration: 148 minutes ## Director: Lana Wachowski ## Cast: Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, Jada Pinkett Smith, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci, Lambert Wilson ## IANS Rating: *** ## Review By: Troy Ribeiro ## For more and the latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned to us.

Stephanie Beatriz: Mirabel of 'Encanto' reminds me of myself at her age

Mumbai, Dec 23 (IANS) For actor Stephanie Beatriz, who has lent her voice to Mirabel Madrigal - the lead character of 'Encanto' - the portrayal came naturally as she could relate to Mirabel having lived the experiences similar to the character. ## This allowed her to revisit old places in her subconscious and sketch up a voice performance that blends seamlessly with the visuals. ## Commenting on the same, Stephanie said, "Mirabel reminds me of myself at her age -headstrong yet unsure, full of wonder and imagination but sometimes held back by self-doubt. She's funny, awkward and brave. She's also very much a classic Disney heroine, and yet she's a new iteration of that classic. Plus the glasses!" ## In addition to Stephanie, other artistes too have voiced the characters, the names include Tony Award-winning actor John Leguizamo co-starring as Bruno Madrigal, Diane Guerrero voicing the character of Jane and Maria Cecilia Botero as Abuela Alma Madrigal. ## The animated musical fantasy comedy will start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from December 24. ## For more and the latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned to us.

Jennifer Lawrence plans to take acting 'break' after giving birth

Los Angeles, Dec 23 (IANS) Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence is going to be a first-time mom soon and seemingly wants to spend more time with her family once she has her baby. ## The actress portraying Kate Dibiasky in 'Don't Look Up' is reportedly planning to take a "break" from acting after giving birth, reports aceshowbiz.com. ## A source close to Lawrence revealed to HollywoodLife.com that the 31-year-old Oscar-winning actress has a year-long hiatus planned from the big screen after her baby is born. "As for Jen's career, she has really enjoyed having this break and focusing on herself and her pregnancy," the source told the outlet. ## "She has worked hard for several years, and it has been very rewarding for her," the so-called inside source continued. ## The informant further shared: "She is going to get back to acting but not for a year after the baby is born." ## Despite the fact that the Academy Award winner is preparing to take a sabbatical, she is already planning her next big project. ## "She has been reading a lot of scripts and wants to take a role next that shows her versatility as an actress. She knows that she can do it all and plans on maintaining a healthy balance between work and being a mother and wife," the insider shared. ## Lawrence is expecting her first child with her husband Cooke Maroney. ## Ahead of her first child's arrival, 'The Hunger Games' star has vowed to protect her child's privacy and not to let her public life affect her growing family. ## "If I was at a dinner party, and somebody was like, 'Oh, my God, you're expecting a baby,' I would be like, 'God, I can't talk about that. Get away from me, you psycho!'," she told Vanity Fair magazine in November. ## The 'Red Sparrow' star added: "But every instinct in my body wants to protect their privacy for the rest of their lives, as much as I can. I don't want anyone to feel welcome into their existence. And I feel like that just starts with not including them in this part of my work." ## For more and the latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned to us.
