Cody Rhodes: 'I Didn't Want To Be A 15-Time TNT Champion And Hold The Belt Hostage'

Cody Rhodes' return to WWE was for sure, one of the greatest of all time. He made his return to WWE at the Wrestlemania 38 PLE and defeated Seth Rollins. ## During an appearance on The Ringer podcast, Cody talked about his leave from AEW and said that it’s nothing against them. It was just time for him to move on. H would wrestle everybody he wanted to wrestle. He didn’t want to be a 15 time TNT champion and hold the belt hostage. ## “I was hoping they’d be happy as a crowd, or at least yay, boo, whatever, just some sort of energy and feeling. But I really didn’t want to put any expectations on it, and I never looked out there. I never walked the ramp. I never got to see the crowd. They put me in my sweats and I didn’t see anything. So coming up on that lift was the first time I saw the grandier, you know, the showcase of immortals, and all the things that WrestleMania is and just a feeling that I’ll chase the rest of my life." ## "If we never get another one, and yeah, as a wrestler, you’re always, ‘I gotta get another one. What am I doing next year?’ But gosh, if I don’t get another one, I feel so vindicated. I feel so vindicated to go from just nowhere on the card and no desire to have me, and no priority, and that’s not a knock on anybody, and then to go out in the frickin wilderness and try everything I could to make some noise and change our business in pro wrestling and sports entertainment, whatever you want to call it. I felt like they appreciated it, and I appreciated them.” ## “It’s maybe the most complex document or contract ever drawn up in the history of our game, but full commitment, full multi-year commitment, not a part time deal. It’s back to what I used to do every day on the road. These people were wonderful enough to get me a bus so that my family could be with me, and I got everyone, all of them, here tonight. So they bet on me, so I’m gonna bet on WWE, and I’m really looking forward to it.” ## “Undertaker said it a couple of times last night in his speech that perception is reality in this industry. Perception of me is all over the place. Oh, he’s an egomaniac. Oh, he asked for all this money. All this crazy stuff. It’s kind of fun to hear, but in reality, I grew up here. I didn’t know what a contract was. I was 19 when I went to OVW. Now it’s just a different story. It’s not so much about, hey, this has to be this way and his has to be this way." ## "It was just more of, I was the executive vice president of AEW. I was one of the founding fathers, and I wanted to make sure that leaving it was with the utmost respect, and I hope no one’s lazy enough here, which no one is, to make AEW jokes or bingo hall references and any of that because it’s nothing against them. It was just time for me to move on. I’d wrestled everybody I wanted to wrestle. I didn’t want to be a 15 time TNT champion and hold the belt hostage. This is true, said that she was so mad yesterday, Friday, that she walked out so she wasn’t at the Hall Of Fame. Alpha Academy ## The Raw Tag Team Champions Randy Orton and Riddle make their way up to the ring. They are followed by The Street Profits. Riddle kicks Gable to get out of the hold. Riddle has a kick blocked and Gable with a dragon screw. Ford with a drop kick to Gable and Gable with a monkey flip and Ford lands on his chest. Gable gets a near fall.## Riddle with Bro 2 Sleep and everyone is down. Orton and Ford tag in. Orton with a power slam. Ford escapes the hanging DDT and pulls Orton to the floor. New Day vs. Ridge Holland & Sheamus is now promoted for night 2 after being from night 1 due to time constraints. ## As noted, The New Day vs. Sheamus and Ridge Holland was scheduled to take place tonight, but it got cut out of the show because they were running long and they wanted to be off the air by midnight. ## Now, WWE has added Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods vs. Ridge Holland and Sheamus to tonight’s WrestleMania card. ## PWInsider first reported that WWE pulled the match due to a number of matches on the show going long. This was probably a mind having to shave time off of the Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens match so it was safer to pull the tag match. ## Here's to hoping it at least gets moved to tomorrow's Kickoff Show. WWE WrestleMania 38 will be the third WrestleMania to feature Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns in the main event (after 31 and 34), with WWE billing the match as "The Biggest WrestleMania Match of All-Time", which will see the unification of the promotion's two world championships, Raw's WWE Championship and SmackDown's Universal Championship, held by Lesnar and Reigns, respectively. ## A rematch was scheduled for the New Year's event Day 1, and Reigns fired Heyman as he believed Heyman was working with Lesnar behind his back. The Day 1 match, however, was canceled as Reigns tested positive for COVID-19. ## The Match takes place on April 3, 2022, at the AT&T Stadium in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex city of Arlington, Texas. ## Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar Full Match ## Out first is, Roman Reigns with The Usos and Paul Heyman. Things are going great now, got to be a hell of a match. Roman takes the mic and does the acknowledgment statement. The Music hits as the WWE Champion Brock Lesnar gets in.## After 7 years and 3 tries, Vince has a desirable crowd atmosphere for this match at Wrestlemania.## Paul takes the mic and instead does the introduction for the Universal Champion. The announcer is about to introduce "The Beast", but Brock would like to do one of his own. The bell rings, Brock drives his head into his skull of Roman, Reigns tries to get back, but Brock drives him into the turnbuckle, and unleashes his shoulders.## Brock plants three back-to-back belly-to-belly suplexes and then drives him off the apron. Brock is also out, Paul is playing some mind game, he is on the plee, meanwhile, Roman Reigns with a Spear to drive Brock into the barricade.## Brock barely beats the count of ten, Roman Reigns with a hilarious Spear for the cover but kicks out. Roman Reigns looks for a Superman punch and he gets it.## Roman Reigns with the second Superman punch, Brock stands up and he is laughing, Brock avoids A Superman Punch and lands A German Suplex. Brock plants three more Suplexes. Brock is looking for a F-5, but Roman counters with a Superman punch.## Roman Reigns goes for Spear, he is almost out to land it, but this time, Brock is conscious, Brock gets Roman up on his shoulder and performs a F-5 for the cover, but kicks out.## Brock again gets Brock upon his shoulder, but Roman makes the payment, he gets a Spear into the ring post, and the referee is also hurt. Roman takes the advances, he follows up with a Low-Blow, and then hits the title on Brock's face.## Roman covers, the referee barely makes the counts, and Brock kicks out at two and a half. Brock with a Kimura Lock, Roman survives by grabbing the ropes.## Roman said his shoulder popped out. Brock went for the F5 but Roman slipped out and hit the spear and he pinned Brock.## Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar Full Match Winner ## Winner: Is Roman Reigns (new champion)## What Time Is Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar ## Roman Reigns Vs. After weeks of disrespecting the state of Texas, on the March 7 episode of Raw, Kevin Owens invited the "Texas Rattlesnake", "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, as a special guest on the "KO Show" at WrestleMania 38. A day later, Austin accepted and it was announced that the segment would occur on WrestleMania Saturday. ## In the main event of WrestleMania 38 (Night One), Both Owens and Steve Austin confronted, leading Owens to lay down to a match. Owens offered a No Hold Barred match which Steve Austin accepted. ## Stone Cold Steve Austin Vs. Kevin Owens Full Match ## Austin then unloads with stomps for a pop. Austin calls Owens a stupid son of a b---h, helps him up, and launches him across the ring into the turnbuckles. Owens goes down. Austin is tossed a beer and he takes a big gulp, then goes back to stomping Owens in the corner.## Austin slams Owens to the floor over the top rope. Austin follows, grabs another beer and sits him on the apron. Austin goes to hit Owens into the barrier but Owens counters and sends Austin into the barrier.## Austin comes back at ringside with a big clothesline. Austin sends Owens over the barrier and rake his eyes. Fans chanted "You still got it!" Now Austin works against the handicap to Owens. Owens sent Austin face-first into the ring post and Stone Cold went down.## We see Owens has a chair and he swings it and misses. Finally, he lost to AJ Styles when The Phenomenal One's WrestleMania opponent Edge got Rollins disqualified. ## A frustrated Rollins went on a tirade after losing to Styles and was eventually called to the office of Mr. McMahon. He plants a massive Inverted Superplex off the top rope followed by a Dragan Slipper for the cover, but kicks out again.## Seth Rollins goes up to the top and performs a Moonsault, but nobody is home, Seth Rollins with Underhook and goes for Pedigree, but Cody counters it into a Powerbomb for near fall.## Rollins with a jackknife cover. Cody with a Tiger Bomb, he goes for cover but kicks out. Seth Rollins finally gets Pedigree and goes for the cover, 1,2...he kicks out again. Both exchange punches. Rollins is leading up the match.## Rollins sets for the KO and connects. Cody with Cross Rhodes and then he holds on and hits one more. Cody with jabs and a Bionic Elbow.
