Each Test In WTC 2021-23 To Carry Same Points Weightage As ICC Confirms Points Structure For Next WTC Cycle

Mumbai, July 15, 2021: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the points structure for the 2021-23 World Test Championship cycle. Departing from a system where every series carried 120 points, the teams in WTC2 will now get 12 points for a win, 6 points for a tie, and 4 points for a draw. ## Same as the first WTC, the top 9 teams in the ICC ranking will play 6 series each: 3 home and 3 away, with the teams' rankings in WTC 2 will be determined by the percentage of points won. The championship will kick-off from August with England taking on the runner-up of WTC 1, India in the 5-match series. ## "We received feedback that the previous points system needed to be simplified", the ICC's acting chief executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement. "The Cricket Committee took this into consideration when proposing a new, standardized points system for each match. It maintained the principle of ensuring that all matches in a WTC series count towards a team's standing while accommodating series varying in length between two Tests and five Tests". ## "During the pandemic, we had to change to ranking teams on the points table using the percentage of available points won by each team, since all series could not be completed. This helped us determine the finalists and we were able to complete the championship within the scheduled time frame. This method also allowed us to compare the relative performance of teams at any time, regardless of how many matches they had played", he added. ## Day-night matches can be included in a series by participating teams but four-day Test matches won't be a part of the championship. Teams will lose one championship point for every over they are found short.## Stay tuned...

Former India Test Player Vinoo Mankad, Among 9 Others Inducted Into ICC Hall of Fame

Mumbai, June 13, 2021: Ahead of the World Test Championship Final between Indian and New Zealand, the International Cricket Council (ICC) inducted 10 players from five different eras, dating back to cricket's early days, into the Hall of Fame for their contribution to Test cricket. ## "The 10 legends of the game to be inducted have all made a significant contribution to the history of Test cricket, and join an illustrious list of ICC Hall of Famers, taking the total number to 103 as a result of this intake", the ICC said in a statement.## Among the 10 players, former India all-rounder Vinoo Mankad has also made the cut into the list of Hall of Famer. Manked played 44 Tests for India and scored 2109 runs with 5 hundred and 6 half-centuries between 1956 and 1959. He is famous for his world record-setting opening partnership of 413 runs with Pankaj Roy in 1956, a record that stood for 52 years. ## Manked was a slow left-arm orthodox bowler and took 162 wickets at an average of 32.32, including eight five-wicket hauls. He is one of three cricketers to have batted in every position during his Test career. ## Apart from Manked, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, and Zimbabwe's Andy Flower - two of the most prolific wicketkeeper-batsman in Test history, also included in the list. Sangakkara becomes the only second Sri Lankan after Muttiah Muralitharan whereas Flower becomes the first player from Zimbabwe to make it to the Hall of Fame. ## Among the other inductees are Aubrey Faulkner of South Africa and Monty Noble of Australia for the early era (pre-1918), Sir Learie Constantine of West Indies and Stan McCabe of Australia for the inter-war Era (1918-1945), Ted Dexter of England for the post-war Era (1946-1970). Desmond Haynes of the West Indies and Bob Willis of England were inducted from the ODI era (1971-1995). ## "Vinoo Mankad's legacy has been to tell the aspiring Indian cricketer to believe in oneself", former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar said on Mankad's induction. "He was a great proponent of self-belief. He was the one who kept saying to me that you need to keep scoring runs and keep at it. When you get a 100, let that be the knock on the selector's door. If it is unheard, then score that double hundred and let that knock be even louder". ## "You can have the best technique, but if you do not have the temperament to support it you will not succeed, you have to keep hanging in there and have that self-belief. That was the greatest lesson I learned from him", Gavaskar added. ## Stay tuned...

ICC Champions Trophy To Return After 8 Years As ICC Announces Next Cycle Of FTP

Mumbai, June 1, 2021: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the return of the Champions Trophy which was scrapped after the 2017 edition won by Pakistan, in the next cycle of the Future Tours Programme. The eight-year cycle of the FTP starting from 2024 to 2031, will mark the return of the Champions Trophy after 8 years in 2025. ## The World Cricket Body has also approved 14 teams for the 50-over World Cup and 20 teams for the Twenty20 World Cup. The decisions were taken by the all-powerful executive board meeting of the ICC, which was held virtually on Tuesday (June 1). ## In the 50-over world cup, ICC has decided to follow the 2003 world cup format. The 14 teams will be split into two groups with the top three from each group making it to the Super Six. The four best teams will then proceed to the semi-final followed by the final. A total of 54 matches will be held in the ODI World Cup in 2027 and 2031. ## The T20 World Cup will see the 20 teams split into four groups with the top two teams from each group progressing to the next stage - the Super Eight - which will then be followed by the semifinals and the final. Four T20 World Cups have been scheduled to be held in 2024, 2026, 2028, and 2030, will comprise 55 matches each. ## The ICC has also confirmed that the World Test Championship Final will be played in 2025, 2027, 2029, and in 2031. The hosts of the 12 ICC tournaments for the Men's events will be finalized in September this year with the selection process getting underway this month. ## "Having the ICC event schedule confirmed through to 2031 is a significant step forward for cricket and will form the basis of our growth strategy for the next decade", ICC Acting Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said. "The revised approach to selecting hosts for our events will give us much more flexibility to grow the game and engage new fans.## "There is a smaller pool of countries with the infrastructure needed to host our senior Men's events which narrows the selection process. Additionally, many of our members expressed interest in hosting Women's and U19 events which gives us a great opportunity to stage events in established and emerging cricket nations". ## Have a look at the ICC men's tournaments in the next cycle of FTP (2024-31) -## 2024 - T20 World Cup (20 teams and 55 matches)## 2025 - Champions Trophy (8 teams and 15 matches)## 2025 - World Test Championship final (2 teams and 1 match)## 2026 - T20 World Cup (20 teams and 55 matches)## 2027 - ODI World Cup (14 teams and 54 matches)## 2027 - World Test Championship final (2 teams and 1 match)## 2028 - T20 World Cup (20 teams and 55 matches)## 2029 - Champions Trophy (8 teams and 15 matches)## 2029 - World Test Championship final (2 teams and 1 match)## 2030 - T20 World Cup (20 teams and 55 matches)## 2031 - ODI World Cup (14 teams and 54 matches)## 2031 - World Test Championship final (2 teams and 1 match)## Stay tuned...

Asia Cup 2021 Officially Postponed To 2023

Mumbai, May 23, 2021: Due to the packed international schedule and second covid-19 wave threat, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially postponed the Asia Cup 2021 by two years. However, the Asia Cup 2022 will go ahead as scheduled with Pakistan retaining hosting rights for the 2022 edition. ## "The ACC Executive Board, in face of the risks and restrictions posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, had made the difficult decision to postpone the Asia Cup 2020 to 2021. Since then, the ACC has been working with its participants and stakeholders to try and ensure that the event is held in the year", the ACC said in a media release. ## "However, on account of a packed FTP, it has been concluded that there is no practical window in the year when all the teams would be available to participate. The Board has accordingly considered the matter very carefully and determined that the only way ahead would be to postpone the event. It would therefore only be feasible for this edition of the tournament to be held in 2023 as there is already an Asia Cup in 2022. Dates for the same will be confirmed in due course", it added. ## With no Asia Cup this year as well, the tournament has been pushed back for a second straight year after it was originally scheduled to be played in September of last year. Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup 2023 after the Pakistan Cricket Board exchanged hosting rights with Sri Lanka Cricket for the next two editions of the tournament. ## The last Asia Cup, which was played in 2018 in UAE, won by India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in the absence of Virat Kohli. Since 2016, the tournament has alternated between the T20I and ODI format accordingly to ICC tournaments. the 2018's event was played in ODI format ahead of ICC ODI World Cup in 2019. ## Stay tuned...
