Mumbai, July 15 - The box office record of all-time blockbuster "Sairat" might be in danger as the latest Marathi sensation "Baipan Bhari Deva" is taking giant steps at the box office. ## "Baipan Bhari Deva" has become the 3rd highest-grossing Marathi movie of all time, and crossed the 50 crores gross mark on its 16th day. On its 17th day, the comedy-drama movie grossed an estimated 7 crores, which takes the total collection to over 60 crores (51 crores net).## The third-weekend collection of "Baipan Bhaari Deva" is looking to be on par with the second-weekend collection. By the next weekend, it will cross Riteish Deshmukh's "Ved" (73 crores gross) to become the second biggest Marathi movie of all time. ## It is quite historic that the second-week collection (29.60 crores gross) of BBD scored a growth of over 100% over the first-week collection (14.70 crores gross). The movie is expected to repeat the second week's collection in the ongoing third week, and this makes it the serious contender to surpass the "Sairat" lifetime collection in the long run. ## "Sairat", the only Marathi movie to date to cross the prestigious 100 crores gross mark, is directed by Nagraj Manjule. Mumbai, July 9 - Marathi cinema's search for the next blockbuster after Riteish Deshmukh's "Ved" finally ends with the latest comedy-drama "Baipan Bhari Deva" which is running riots at the box office. ## Directed by Kedar Shinde, the all-female-led movie, "Baipan Bhari Deva" has created history on its second Sunday by scoring the biggest single-day collection of all time for a Marathi movie with a net collection of 6.05 crores. ## "Ved" previously held the record for scoring the highest single-day collection of 5.70 crores net which also came on the second Sunday earlier this year. The third biggest single-day collection also now belongs to "Baipan Bhari Deva" with 5.40 crores net which it scored on the second Saturday. ## "Baipan Bhari Deva" reached 26.20 crores net in 10 days, including the second Sunday. The movie is being loved by female audiences who are thronging to cinemas in large numbers. Mumbai, April 12 - Riteish Deshmukh's Marathi directorial debut film Ved recently completed 100 days in theaters with the blockbuster collection. It was released in theaters on December 30, 2022, and has grossed close to 75 crores, becoming the second highest-grossing Marathi film of all time. ## The film has been enjoying its run in theaters for more than 3 months and credit to the makers for giving it enough time to make the most of it. Since there is not much left in the tank for Ved as far as the box office is concerned, it is now gearing up for its digital release. ## Ved will be released on Disney+Hotstar on April 28. It will also be dubbed into Hindi language and will simultaneously be released on Hotstar with the Marathi version. The Hindi version wasn't released in theaters. ## Ved becomes the rare Marathi film to also have a dubbed release. The romantic-drama film is a remake of the 2019 Telugu-language film, "Majili", which starred Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead roles. ## "Ved" was released on December 30, 2022, and took one of the biggest openings ever for a Marathi film with 2.25 crores net. It went on to register an excellent opening weekend of 10 crores net before finishing the first week with 20.67 crores. ## Produced by Genelia D'Souza under the banner of Mumbai Film Company, "Ved" was in full flow in the second weekend and scored 10.75 crores net. Mumbai, March 7 - The Marathi cinema continues to thrive and making its own place amid the crowed pulling Bollywood film industry. It all began with Nana Patekar's "Natasamrat", which became the first Marathi movie to gross over Rs. 50 crores at the box office. ## However, the record of "Natasmrat" was later outscored within five months when the all-time blockbuster Marathi movie "Sairat" was released on April 29, 2016. It grossed over Rs. 100 crores at the worldwide box office and remains the only Marathi movie to achieve the feat to date. ## Now, there is another movie that is finding its legs in the record books. "Pawankhind", a historical drama film directed by Digpal Lanjekar and produced under the banner of Almonds Creations in association with A A Films, has been unstoppable ever since it debuted in theaters on 18 February 2022. ## Based on the life of Maratha warrior, Baji Prabhu Deshpande, "Pawankhind" has completed 17 days at the box office, and it has grossed a super Rs. 31.50 crores in India. It has stormed into the list of Top 10 highest-grossing Marathi movies of all time, taking the 7th spot (as of March 6) in the list. It will easily cross the next two movies, "Naal" (Rs. 32 crores), and "Timepass" (Rs. 33 crores), to reach number 5 in the list. ## The film depicts the historical rearguard last stand that took place on 13 July 1660 at a mountain pass in the vicinity of fort Vishalgad, near the city of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India between the Maratha Warrior Baji Prabhu Deshpande and Siddi Masud of Adilshah Sultanate, known as Battle of Pavan Khind. ## "Pawankhind" was originally slated for June 2021 release, but the makers were forced to postpone it due to the second covid-19 wave. Venice Film Festival 2020: Indian Marathi Film 'The Disciple' Wins Prestigious FIPRESCI Award

Indian Marathi film 'The Disciple' directed by Chaitanya Tamhane has won the prestigious FIPRESCI Award at the 77th Venice International Film Festival. 'The Disciple' becomes the first Indian film after Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Mathilukal in 1990 to win this award. ## Tamhane told IANS, "I want to thank the FIPRESCI and its jury members from the bottom of my heart for their continued support for our work. This is a very special honor for us given that the jury for this award comprises film critics and journalists from around the world.
