Vijay Sethupathi's Box Office Blockbuster and Critically Acclaimed 'Maharaja' Sets China Release

Chennai, November 16 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja which scored a huge commercial and critical acclaim earlier this year, is set to hit Chinese theatres later this month. The movie is directed by Nithilan Saminathan and produced by The Route, Think Studios, and Passion Studios. ## Maharaja was released in June this year and five months later, director Nithilan confirmed on social media that it would be released in China on November 29 by Alibaba Group. The cast of the movie also includes Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty Natraj in important roles. ## It is the 50th movie of Vijay Sethupathi and it emerged to be his biggest grosser with a worldwide collection of approximately 106 crores. Some of the Indian films have done wonders in China and Maharaja clicks with the audiences, it can reap rich rewards at the box office. ## The film follows Maharaja (Sethupathi), a barber in Chennai, who goes to the police station to retrieve his stolen dustbin only for the police officers to find his intentions to be something else. Shahid Kapoor's 'Ashwatthama' Shelved?

Mumbai, November 16 - Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor was roped in to headline Pooja Entertainment's mega-budgeted epic Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues. Kannada director Sachin B. Ravi of Avane Srimannarayana fame was on board to direct the film. ## Since the announcement, the film, however, has faced delays and challenges and now, according to the report by Mid-Day, the project has been put on hold indefinitely due to budgetary constraints. It is said that the movie was planned to be made for 500 crores but it was escalating as pre-production advanced. ## The report quoted an insider saying that the project's scale was enormous and was supposed to be shot across multiple countries. However, after they started working on it, the makers felt it was a massive challenge to make it within the planned budget.## Pooja Entertainment, on the other hand, has reportedly been in a financial crisis with back-to-back major box office flops and considering all these things, the team led to a decision to pause production until these issues could be resolved.## Shahid Kapoor, on the other hand, has reportedly moved on from this ambitious project and has started preparation for Vishal Bhardwaj's action thriller film. The actor also has OMG 2 director Amit Rai's historical action drama based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Box Office: 'Kanguva' Second Day Early Estimates

Chennai, November 15 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy entertainer Kanguva might be starting to feel the heat of negative word of mouth as the collection on its second day/first Friday dropped by over 50% from the record Thursday opening for the actor. ## It was going to be tough for the film to come close to the opening day numbers as word of mouth was poor and that came into effect on its second day only. According to early estimates, the movie is expected to gross in the range of 4-4.50 crores in Tamil Nadu on its second day, which is a drop of around 60%. ## The movie is witnessing a similar drop in Telugu states for an estimated 2.25-2.50 crores gross while in Kerala, the collection dropped massively for an estimated 75 lakh (-80%) and in Karnataka, the movie has minted around 75 lakh, again a heavy drop. ## Kanguva has a decent day in the Hindi belt though the drop is still there for an estimated 3+ crores gross as all India second-day estimates suggest the collection in the range of 10.50-11.50 crores gross, pushing the total to around 39 crores gross after 2 days domestically.## The film has a big Saturday and Sunday to make a mark as it looks like it will struggle big time beyond the weekend. Chennai, November 14 - Tamil star Suriya's long-awaited fantasy action drama Kanguva hit the big screens today amid huge expectations at the box office. As expected, the film has taken the career-best opening for the actor by a good margin. ## According to the early estimates, Kanguva is headed for opening in the range of 11-13 crores gross in Tamil Nadu which is a decent start. In Telugu states, the movie has taken a good start with an estimated gross collection in the range of 5.50-6 crores. ## Kerala was one of the best-performing states for Kanguva in advance sales and the film scored a very good opening of 4-4.50 crores gross there. In Karnataka, it is expected to score in the range of 2.50+ crores gross while the movie surprises in the North belt with a better-than-expected start. ## As per estimates, Kanguva is expected to gross around 4 crores in the Hindi belt as all India estimates suggest 26-28 crore gross opening day (including 3D charges). While this is a good start for the movie, it somehow fell short of expectations as a whole, especially in Tamil Nadu. ## As said, the opening is good but the road ahead might be a difficult one for the film. Mumbai, November 14 - The Diwali weekend Bollywood releases, Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 are battling it out to finish on top as they completed two weeks at the box office where the latter might edge past the Rohit Shetty's directorial.## After scoring over 300 crores net collection (331 crores) in the first week, both the films witnessed a collective drop of around 65% in the second one for a combined approximately 106 crores net. BB3, which legged behind by approximately 15 crores net to Singham Again after the 1st week, has reduced that gap to just 4 after the following week. ## The Kartik Aaryan-fronted horror-comedy has minted approximately 58 crores net in the second week, pushing the total collection to around 217 crores after 14 days. On the other hand, the Ajay Devgn-starrer cop action drama witnessed a bigger drop for an estimated 48 crores net second week, for around 221 crores total collection. ## Both films have collectively earned approximately 437 crores net (524 crores gross) collection in 2 weeks (14 days) and the final total is headed to finish around 500+ crores net, in which BB3 is likely to finish ahead of its fellow movie at the end of their runs. ## Meanwhile, at the worldwide box office, both Singham Again and BB3 have grossed approximately 675 crores in 2 weeks with almost equal share of contribution. ## Stay tuned...

Los Angeles, November 14 - Tom Hardy's superhero movie Venom: The Last Dance has found a way to keep going at the box office after below than expected opening at the domestic box office. And with strong international performance, the film is now in the safe zone. ## Sony Pictures had 2 back-to-back box office shockers in its Spider-Man Universe in the form of Morbius and Madame Web, and when Venom 3 opened in North America far below initial expectations - with a disappointing $51 million - it looked like the studio might have another box office flop on its hands. ## However, after the initial setback, the brand Venom came to the rescue and the movie has continued to exceed expectations since then. From what looked like another below $100 million domestic finish, Venom: The Last Dance is now heading for around $150 million, having already earned $119 million through the third Tuesday (19 days).## Internationally, the final Venom film is strong with $287 million so far, with worldwide cume gross crossing $400 million. Made on a budget of $120 million, the movie is heading towards finishing its worldwide box office run at around $500 million which is a good result.## The Venom trilogy has also topped $1.7 billion at the global box office as Sony's one of the biggest IPs alongside Spider-Man films. The film is directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films in association with Jio Studios. ## Sky Force was supposed to be released in October 2024 but was postponed to January 2025. Mumbai, November 13 - Kartik Aaryan-fronted horror-comedy emerged as a big box office hit and became the 4th Bollywood film of 2024 to cross 200 crores net collection. The movie achieved this milestone on its second Monday (11th day). ## Directed by Anees Bazmee, BB3 scored 204 crores net until the second Monday which made it the 37th Bollywood movie and 41st film ever in Hindi to breach the 200 crores net mark. It was released in a clash with Ajay Devgn's Singham Again which topped double century in 10 days. ## BB3 is the maiden film of Kartik Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, Vidya, and Madhuri Dixit as well as for director Bazmee to enter the 200 crore net club. For Kartik and Bazmee, their previous biggest net grosser was Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which minted approximately 184 crores net collection in 2022. ## Produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series Films and Cine1 Studios, BB3 is the instalment in the blockbuster horror-comedy franchise and the second for Kartik after BB2. The biggest hit for the actor in recent times was the romantic comedy Zara Hatke Zara Bachke with producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films. This film opened the door for more collaboration between the two. ## After ZHZB, Vicky reunited with Vijan for a historical film titled Chhaava. The movie is scheduled to be released early next year and it is said the producer is confident that it will deliver big at the box office. Meanwhile, Chhaava is not the only film between the two creative forces as the actor has signed his third film with the studio.## On Wednesday (November 13), Maddock announced that the Sam Bahadur star will headline an epic historical film, titled Mahavatar. Mumbai, November 12 - Ajay Devgn-fronted Singham Again became the third Bollywood movie of 2024 to surpass 200 crores net collection on its second Sunday (10th day) after Fighter and Stree 2, and third Hindi film after Kalki 2898 AD. ## The Rohit Shetty's directorial venture minted approximately 207 crores net until the second Sunday which made it the 36th Bollywood movie and 40th film ever in Hindi to breach the 200 crores net mark. The last movie to score this milestone was the mega-blockbuster Stree 2 in August this year. ## Singham 3 is the fourth film of Ajay Devgn after Tanhaji, Drishyam 2, and Golmaal Again, and 4th including RRR (extended role) to enter 200 crores net box office club. Chennai, November 12 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action drama film Kanguva is finally hitting the big screens this Thursday, November 14, as the anticipation soaring with release getting nearer. Directed by Siva, the movie has managed to generate good buzz with a superb promotional campaign. ## Recently, the makers announced that Kanguva would be released on over 10K screens worldwide, making it the widest release for a Tamil title. However, it may face a significant challenge, especially in the home state, Tamil Nadu due to fellow Tamil movie Amaran starring Sivakarthikeyan. ## Amaran was released during Diwali weekend and in just 12 days, it has surpassed 250 crores collection, at the worldwide box office, including 120+ crores gross in Tamil Nadu and emerged as a huge blockbuster. This dominance is causing trouble for Kanguva in securing enough screens in Tamil Nadu. ## It was assumed that the Suriya-starrer would be released on over 800 screens in Tamil Nadu, however, the latest development indicates that the movie will get only 50% of available screens due to Amaran which is performing exceptionally well in the state and is set to retain a good number of screens after Kanguva release. ## It hasn't been smooth sailing for Kanguva so far. The movie was supposed to be released on October 10 but was forced to postpone due to superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan which eventually turned into a flop venture. And a month later, things haven't improved much for this particular film though the reason this time is fortunately solid. ## Amaran being a dominant force at the box office deserves to retain a good number of screens, at least, for a month and so does Kanguva which has let go of a lucrative box office slot for another movie. Box Office Blockbuster 'Amaran' OTT Release Pushed But Not By Much

Chennai, November 11 - Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's biographical war action drama film Amaran is doing wonders at the box office and is marching towards 300 crores worldwide. The movie has exceeded expectations and is now the second-biggest Tamil grosser of 2024. ## Since the movie is performing exceptionally well, it is learned that its OTT release date is set to be extended by a week and it will now arrive digitally after 5 weeks (35 days). Netflix is reportedly the post-theatrical OTT partner in all languages. ## It is said that just like other Tamil films, Amaran was originally supposed to start streaming after 4 weeks (28 days) and this is probably the first instance of a Tamil title that the theatrical window being extended in recent times, but the question arises whether the extension is good enough. ## Post the Covid-19 pandemic, South Indian films, especially Tamil and Telugu, have been restricted to the 4-week theatrical window, a practice which has received criticism from theatre owners. However, Telugu films which turned box big box office successes got a 2-3 weeks extension in the theatrical window, something the Tamil industry failed to secure. ## Amaran, which has crossed 250 crores worldwide in just 12 days, getting one more week to extend its dominance at the box office is a welcome move and this needs to become a regular practice with further extension for all the films for the larger benefit of the industry. ## Stay tuned...
