Chennai, January 8 - Thalapathy Vijay's much-awaited family entertainer Varisu will be up against Ajith Kumar's action entertainer Thunivu at the box office this Pongal. The highly anticipated films will indulge in the direct clash on January 11 and this clash is exciting the trade very much. ## The advance booking for both films has been opened and both the movies are having neck-to-neck competition at the moment though "Varisu" is having a little edge over "Thunivu" in the early numbers. In the home state, Tamilnadu, the advance booking for both movies has crossed 3 crores gross each. ## As of 11:30 PM on January 10 (final), the gross advance booking collection of "Varisu" for the opening day is approx. 11.49 crores while the same for "Thunivu" is approx. 10.83 crores gross. Bengaluru, January 7 - Kannada superstar, Yash-fronted KGF is one of the most successful film franchises in the country. "KGF: Chapter 2", which was released in April last year, went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2022 and with this, the makers also confirmed the third installment of KGF. ## There have been many inquiries about when will "KGF 3" start rolling since there is no clear confirmation from the makers though it is sure that it won't be in Hombale's immediate future plans as both director Prashanth Neel and Yash will be busy with a different project for the next couple of years. ## As per the latest reports, "KGF" won't only get its third film but it will be built like a James Bond franchise with multiple parts. Producer Vijay Kiragandur has reportedly confirmed that "KGF 3" will start rolling in 2025. He also said that there might be a different actor after 5th installment, much like in the James Bond series. ## Yash is currently in dicussion with multiple filmmakers to set up his next film. James Cameron Confirms 'Avatar' Sequels Will Be Made After 'Avatar 2' Hits Break-Even Target

Los Angeles, January 7 - The road is clear for the next, at least, three Avatar movies as James Cameron confirmed upon the mega success of Avatar: The Way of Water. The blockbuster filmmaker previously said that the future of the Avatar franchise depends on how the second and third Avatar movies perform. ## "Avatar 2" has been projected to reach $1.5 billion at the global box office to break even and the movie has already crossed that mark in about 3 weeks and turned profitable for Disney. It is projected to finish over $2.2 billion in its lifetime run which will make it James Cameron's third straight $2 billion grosser after "Titanic" (1997) and "Avatar" (2009). ## "It looks like just with the momentum that the film has now that will easily pass our break even in the next few days, so it looks like I can't wiggle out of this, I'm gonna have to do these other sequels", Cameron said, as per THR.## "I know what I'm going to be doing the next six or seven years. The point is we're going to be okay. I'm sure that we'll have a discussion soon with the top folks at Disney about the game plan going forward for Avatar 3, which is already in the can – we've already captured and photographed the whole film so we're in extended post-production to do all that CG magic. And then Avatar 4 and 5 are both written. We even have some of 4 in the can. We've begun a franchise at this point. We've begun a saga that can now play out over multiple films", he added.## The sci-fi epic had an estimated production budget of more than $400 million, with a marketing spend that brought the combined price tag to at least $600 million, as per THR. It is one of the costliest films ever and needed higher numbers to break even at the box office and it achieves those with ease. The third installment of the blockbuster franchise is currently scheduled to release in December 2024 and going by Cameron's recent interview, the upcoming films will showcase the evil sides of Na'vi. ## "I want to show the Na'vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides. In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. Mumbai, January 7 - Ahead of the trailer of the highly-anticipated spy action thriller Pathaan, Yash Raj Films has launched its 'Spy Universe' logo and confirmed its expansion. ## YRF's ambitious spy universe kicked off with superstar Salman Khan's "Ek Tha Tiger" (2012) and later Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff-fronted "War" joins it and now, SRK's "Pathaan" is the latest entrant in this. Among the upcoming films in this universe, SRK's "Pathaan" and Salman's "Tiger 3" are scheduled to release this year. ## Yash Raj Films have confirmed character crossover in the spy universe and the first glimpse of it will be seen in "Pathaan" which will feature Salman's cameo as Tiger. The movie is scheduled to release on January 25 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu while the trailer will be launched on January 10. The movie was announced with first-look posters and was supposed to go on floors in 2022. ## Over the last year since the announcement, there hasn't been any update on the film which led to many speculations about the movie getting shelved. Over the last couple of days, there have been many reports stating that the ambitious movie has been canceled due to some issues. ## As per the latest reports, "Gorkha" hasn't been shelved but postponed indefinitely and filmmaker Anand L Rai has reportedly confirmed the same. London, January 6 - The global box office collection for 2022 reached nearly $26 billion, $25.9 billion, according to Gower Street Analytics (via Deadline).## The worldwide box office in 2022 fell short of the projection of $32 billion but jumped by 27% from the previous year. The films, outside Hollywood, grossed $18.4 billion, including China, a 16% increase from last year at current exchange rates. ## Without China, which is the biggest movie box office market in the world, the collection outside Hollywood is estimated at $14.1B, a 55% hike in 2021. The Hollywood box office collection for 2022 hit $7.5 billion, up by 65% from 2021. ## The box office in 2022 showed a big sign of fast recovery but the numbers are still behind the pre-covid-19 era. The worldwide box office numbers in 2022 are 35% below the pre-pandemic three-year average (2017-2019), causing a loss of approximately $14 billion at current exchange rates, per Deadline.## The projection of $32 billion worldwide in 2022 was dependent on China's box office, but due to the covid-19, it is one of three markets that finished the year at a deficit versus 2021. China grossed an estimated $4.33 billion (-36% vs 2021), says the analysis.## Europe, the Middle East, and Africa generated $7.1 billion (-31% against the pre-pandemic average/+52% over 2021). Asia Pacific (excluding China) delivered $5.2 billion (-26%/+49%). Latin America brought an estimated $1.8 billion (-30% vs pre-pandemic average), a whopping 87% increase on 2021.## Top tracked international markets for Gower Street were China ($4.33B), Japan ($1.52B), the UK ($1.2B), France ($1.06B), and Korea ($900K).
