Box Office: 'Sonic 2' Becomes The Highest Grossing Video Game Movie In The USA History
Los Angeles, May 1 - Americans love video game movies, and the latest action-adventure comedy film, "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" has proved that. Based on the video game franchise published by Sega, "Sonic 2" has become the highest-grossing movie in USA history. ## Directed by Jeff Fowler, "Sonic 2" has overtaken its predecessor with $152 million through Saturday (April 30) and it is now at the top of the box office for a movie adapted from a video game. "Sonic the Hedgehog", which was released in 2020, had grossed $146 million in its lifetime run but it garnered praise which paved the way for its successor to go big at the box office. ## "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" is on a record-breaking spree since its debut on April 8, 2022, at the domestic box office. The movie scored a huge $72 million on its opening weekend, which is the highest ever for a video game movie. Worldwide, it has grossed approx. $295 million so far, and is still behind from original movie's $319 million. ## The success of "Sonic 2" at the domestic box office is highly impressive, especially knowing the fact that it was released along with major Hollywood movies from big studios. Upon its release in the US, the movie outscored both the Jared Leto-led "Morbius" and Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum's "The Lost City" to top the weekend. ## "Sonic 2" stars Ben Schwartz reprising his role as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, alongside James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Lee Majdoub, Idris Elba, and Jim Carrey. The film follows Sonic and Tails, who team up to find Master Emerald before Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles the Echidna do, while also contending with the military organization G.U.N.## Stay tuned...
