Box Office: Dwayne Johnson's 'Black Adam' To Face Theatrical Losses

Los Angeles, December 6 - One of the biggest movie stars in the world, Dwayne Johnson's superhero debut with DC's Black Adam couldn't bring fruitful results at the box office, despite grossing approx. $387 million worldwide. ## Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the superhero movie will end up facing losses of $50 million to $100 million in its theatrical run, according to Variety. Though the box office numbers of "Black Adam" are no less knowing how things have gone post the covid-19 pandemic, it is the budget and marketing cost that proving to be a big hurdle for the movie to turn a profit.## The Warner Bros. film was made on a budget of approx. $195 million, making it one of the costliest movies ever made, while it additionally cost $80 million to $100 million on marketing. The report says that the movie needed to do a business of around $600 million worldwide to break even and turn into a profitable venture for the studio, which is unlikely to happen. ## However, according to Warner Bros. sources (via Variety), the movie will break even at $400 million. When the film was commissioned, the break-even was believed to be $450 million, but that figure has dropped given the particularities of the new home entertainment landscape, one in which "Black Adam" has over-performed projections. ## Despite all the above figures and projections, "Black Adam" won't be a profitable venture for Warner Bros. which had high hopes for the movie. Los Angeles, November 11 - Marvel Studios' latest blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever along with Warner Bros. DC superhero flick Black Adam are unlikely to release in China, the biggest movie market in the world, according to The Hollywood Reporter.## The Beijing regulators continue to crack down on American movies, particularly Marvel/Disney. The market of Hollywood movies in China has reduced drastically over the last few years but still, the snubbing of top-tier superhero titles is costing the studios tens of millions of lost potential revenue. ## While the official word on the ban on "Black Panther 2" is awaited, THR reports that the film's denial comes as little surprise given the recent track record of Marvel movies in the Middle Kingdom. The first "Black Panther", which was released in 2018, grossed $105 million in China.## China has been a big market for Marvel films, however, since the covid-19 pandemic, the scenario has changed for the studio to get permission to release the film there. Over the last year or so, China has banned Marvel titles - "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (2021) and "Eternals" (2021) along with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021) and others.## Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson's "Black Adam", which was released a couple of weeks ago and has already crossed $320 million worldwide, has also reportedly been banned in China. Los Angeles, October 23 - Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson's superhero debut with DCEU's Black Adam brings a pleasant surprise at the box office, especially after the poor reception it got from critics. ## The film opened at number 1 at the domestic (North American) box office with $67 million in the opening weekend, the biggest-ever debut for Johnson's career as the lead hero. The movie overcome the revised industry projection of $60 million after critics' reviews. ## As per Variety, the opening of "Black Adam" being a superhero movie isn't earth-shattering but definitely a strong knowing it is a spin-off of "Shazam!" which opened at $53.5 million in 2019. "Black Adam" is also the first Hollywood movie since "Thor: Love And Thunder" in July 2022 to open over $50 million domestically. ## For a DC movie, "Black Adam" takes the second biggest opening in the post-pandemic-era after "The Batman's" $134 million in March 2022. This is a massive gap between critics and audience's scores for "Black Adam", however, is not completely surprising knowing the fact that most Comic Book movies have been received in the same way in the past. ## Comic book superhero movies have always pulled large crowds to the theaters irrespective of the critics' reviews and "Black Adam" might be just another film on the list with the mighty support of Johnson's massive worldwide fan following. ## Both Johnson and Warner Bros. are betting big on The Man in Black, and the initial box office numbers are encouraging as well. DC's Most Prestigious Project Is In The Early Development Along With Many Others

Los Angeles, October 17 - Warner Bros. hasn't been able to align its DC projects and give them better treatment despite endless possibilities. One of the popular DC characters who have a huge influence on the audiences, Superman hasn't been able to find a place in the DC universe for more than 5 years. ## The popular superhero role, played by Henry Cavill, was last seen in "Justice League" (not counting Zack Snyder's Justice League) but since then, the studio couldn't find ways to bring back the character despite the rumors. ## It is said that Warner Bros. executive, Walter Hamada was against the idea of bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman, and now, with his exit, things are shaping up nicely at Warner Bros. regarding DC's future projects, and in what could be the turning point of DC future, the studio has greenlit multiple projects, including "Superman" sequel.## According to THR, bringing back Cavill for another Superman movie is at the top of the list for Warner Bros. executives and are reportedly looking for writers for a "Man of Steel" sequel produced by Charles Roven. There have been rumors about the "Superman" sequel, and the studio is finally officially setting it.## Interestingly, Dwayne Johnson, who makes his DC debut with the forthcoming "Black Adam" movie, has been quite vocal about the "Black Adam vs. Superman" movie and believed that it was the main purpose of introducing Black Adam in the DCEU. The Rock has also teased the cameo of Henry Cavill as Superman in Black Adam, which has further boosted the chance of bringing two characters against each other. ## Apart from the "Superman" sequel, Warner Bros. has also reportedly set the "The Flash" sequel and it is said that the scripting has already been written.
