Predicting 3 Likely Opponents For Roman Reigns After Back Injury
Pensacola, August 17, 2023 - Roman Reigns, who clinched the Universal Title at Payback 2020 by defeating Braun Strowman and The Fiend, solidified his dominance at WrestleMania 38 by conquering Brock Lesnar to unify the WWE and Universal Championships. During his 1,081-day reign, he defended his title impressively 29 times, confirming his role as the promotion's top star.
However, despite his 1,079+ day reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, fans have noticed less of The Tribal Chief recently. He appears when the storyline demands, often featuring in standout segments on weekly TV. But after main storylines conclude, it could be months before the top champion returns.
Following his victory against Jey Uso at SummerSlam, fans are already speculating when a new challenger might emerge for Roman's next title defense. An injury during the August 5th match has raised questions about his future appearances. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful provided an update on Roman's condition and upcoming WWE appearances.
The report indicates that the injury Roman sustained during 'Tribal Combat' wasn't related to his back. While the exact nature of the injury is unclear, since Roman recently took offense from Jey Uso on SmackDown, it suggests his condition might not be too serious to prevent him from performing.
As for his return to the ring, Fightful suggests that Roman is expected to make his scheduled dates despite the injury, though the exact number of dates for the next few months hasn't been disclosed yet. However, the upcoming August 18th SmackDown episode won't feature any members of The Bloodline story. Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and Jimmy Uso seem to be absent for undisclosed reasons.
Furthermore, Jey Uso, a significant part of The Bloodline, 'quit' the group, SmackDown, and WWE on August 11th, though this is believed to be part of an ongoing storyline.
Before things get clear, let's have a look at his potential opponents:
1. Jey Uso The Bloodline Civil War seems to be continuing, and there's a chance he might go up against his brother, Jimmy, at WWE Payback on September 2. It's also possible that Jey might have another showdown with Roman in the future, considering his impressive performance as 'Main Event Uso' at SummerSlam.
2. Bobby Lashley: Bobby Lashley lost the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber 2022 and has been seeking a rematch since then. The Elimination Chamber match had an unfortunate ending for Lashley, as Seth Rollins power-bombed Austin Theory through Lashley's pod, causing a shoulder injury to the champion and forcing him to exit the match.
Lashley revived his old feud with Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble and ultimately defeated The Beast at Elimination Chamber 2023. Starting from May, Lashley has made a couple of appearances and is being considered as a possible contender for the title match.
3. Jimmy Uso: Undoubtedly, the most apparent pick for the contender's position was Jimmy Uso. It was widely anticipated that he would vie for the title at SummerSlam. If not for an unfortunate injury, he likely would have headlined the grand summer event. Some speculate that jealousy might have played a role in Jimmy's decision to betray his brother, instigating the Bloodline civil war. He was the initial one to turn against the Tribal Chief, according to many opinions.
