Roman Reigns Reveals He Continues Medication for Leukemia Despite Remission
WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has opened up about his ongoing battle with leukemia. While he announced his remission in 2019, Reigns revealed during his A&E Biography special that he remains on "very potent" medication to manage the disease.
"I think adversity is a constant reminder of what the world is and what life is, and it's not fair," said Roman. "I think it's a form of resistance training that we have to go through to strengthen ourselves. So I think adversity is a key ingredient to any success story.
For leukemia, if you caught it an early enough stage like I did, you're able to take, essentially, a medication, a very potent medication that I'm still on to this day, but it's pretty much just a conditioning of getting your body used to these toxic medications and just hoping for the best."
Reigns, whose real name is Leati Joseph Anoaʻi, was first diagnosed with leukemia over a decade ago. In 2018, he was forced to relinquish the Universal Championship to focus on treatment for a recurrence. After a courageous fight, he returned to the ring just four months later, announcing he was in remission.
However, the latest revelation shows the ongoing challenges Reigns faces. He described the medication as a form of "resistance training," highlighting the mental and physical strength required to manage a chronic illness. He also expressed his belief that overcoming adversity is a key ingredient to success.
