Mumbai, April 30 - Akshay Kumar-fronted Housefull is one of the most successful film franchises in India. It holds the record of being the highest-grossing comedy film franchise in the country with around 790 crores at the worldwide box office from 4 films released so far. Housefull 5 is currently in development for 2025 release.

The first Housefull film was released in 2010, and today on April 30, it has completed 14 years. The movie grossed over 100 crores at the worldwide box office and was the second highest-grossing Indian comedy film at that time, behind Welcome (2017) which was also headlined by Akshay Kumar.



Directed by Sajid Khan, Housefull is based on the Tamil romantic comedy Kadhala Kadhala (1988) starring Kamal Haasan. The movie received mixed response but went on to become 5th highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010 and was a box office hit.

Housefull grossed over 100 crores in India and became the first comedy film to achieve the feat. Additionally, the movie generated approximately 1.20 crores of footfalls/admissions which was one of the highest for a comic entertainer at that time.
