'83' Crosses $4 Million At The North America Box Office
Mumbai, January 16 - Sports biopic "83" is going strong at the international box office despite the rise of the covid-19 cases due to the omicron variant.
The Ranveer Singh-fronted film has grossed Rs. 60.56 crores overseas in the first 22 days. At the North America box office, the cricket drama has crossed the $4 million (Rs. 29.75 cr) mark. The movie had the widest release in North America for an Indian film and it has paid off.
Directed by Kabir Khan, "83" hasn't had a great run at the Indian box office but it has managed to cross an Rs. 100 crores net mark, becoming only the second Bollywood film during the covid-19 pandemic to achieve the feet. After 22 days, it has netted Rs. 102.10 crores, pushing its total worldwide gross to Rs. 180 crores for all languages.
"83" is Ranveer Singh's 4th consecutive Rs. 100 crores grosser, and overall, 6th film to do so at the Indian box office. It could have done much better had the 3rd covid-19 wave didn't force restrictions on theaters, which has affected its overall box office potential.
Produced by Vibri Media, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Reliance Entertainment, and Phantom Films, "83" is based on India's maiden cricket world cup triumph in 1983. Ranveer Singh plays the role of Kapil Dev who led the Indian team during the successful campaign.
