Despite the mixed reviews, the latest instalment of the franchise Jurassic World Rebirth is set to exceed the industry projection by a good margin at the worldwide box office. ## Directed by Gareth Edwards, the sci-fi adventure movie had a Wednesday release in most of the markets, including the domestic (North America). Through Friday, the film has already grossed $162 million worldwide and is now projected to hit $300+ million 5-day opening weekend. ## Before the release, Universal Pictures and the Hollywood trade agencies were projecting $250 million - $260 million worldwide, which is set to be topped when actuals arrive on Monday. Los Angeles, June 30 - Legendary Hollywood director James Cameron has hit out at acclaimed director Christopher Nolan for his 2023 epic biographical thriller Oppenheimer, which has been hailed as one of the best films of the 21st century. The movie is based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons during World War II. ## Oppenheimer was declared the best movie at the 96th Academy Awards, in which it won 7 Oscars, including Best Picture. Cameron, however, has criticised Nolan for not depicting the aftermath of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombing, which killed over 250,000 people. While Cameron acknowledged Nolan's filmmaking, he felt disappointed that Oppenheimer didn't depict the aftermath of the atomic bombing. ## During an interview with Deadline, the "Avatar" director said, "Yeah, it's interesting what he stayed away from. Look, I love the filmmaking, but I did feel that it was a bit of a moral cop-out. Because it's not like Oppenheimer didn't know the effects. He's got one brief scene in the film where we see — and I don't like to criticise another filmmaker's film – but there's only one brief moment where he sees some charred bodies in the audience, and then the film goes on to show how it deeply moved him. But I felt that it dodged the subject". ## Meanwhile, James Cameron himself is working on a film based on the Hiroshima bombing titled Ghosts of Hiroshima, which tells the story from those on the business end of the unimaginably destructive blasts that turned Japan into a hell-scape and killed hundreds of people and much more over time as the radiation ravaged the bodies of survivors. ## While Nolan's "Oppenheimer" grossed nearly $1 billion at the global box office, Cameron feels that "Ghosts of Hiroshima" could be his lowest-grossing film because of the subject matter, as he will be showing the aftermath of the atomic bombing. Los Angeles, June 11 - A new feature film about the DC superhero Wonder Woman is officially in development, according to the CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn. The movie would be in addition to an HBO series about Wonder Woman's home of Themyscira. ## During an interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), James Gunn said that they are working on Wonder Woman, which is currently being written. 'Godzilla x Kong' Sequel Gets Official Title and Release Date

Pictures and Legendary Pictures have announced the official first look title of its next Monsterverse film, the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024). ## Directed by Grant Sputore, the film has been titled as Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and it is currently in production. Box Office: 'Thunderbolts' Strikes With $160+ Million Worldwide Opening

Los Angeles, May 5 - Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts has finished the first weekend at the worldwide box office with $162+ million, slightly under industry projection. The movie, however, is expected to have solid legs with positive word of mouth and critics' reviews by its side. ## The Jake Schreier's directorial blockbuster ignited the domestic (North America) box office with a $76 million 3-day opening weekend, higher than the industry projection. Marvel movies tend to open with much higher collections, but this is a very good start for a new superhero movie, which features lesser-known Marvel heroes. ## The domestic opening of Thunderbolts* is in line with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($75 million) and Eternals ($71 million), which also introduced newer Marvel protagonists. As per Variety, the film will have a strong run due to WOM and reviews, which are among the highest for a Marvel tentpole. ## The overseas box office, Thunderbolts, came below the industry's projection with $86 million during the 5-day weekend in 53 markets. This is lower than Enternals ($90 million) but better than Shang-Chi ($56 million). The film struck $162 million worldwide opening weekend, which is on par with Eternals. ## China was the biggest international market for the film with $10.4 million, followed by the UK ($7.7 million) and Mexico ($7.3 million). Los Angeles, April 30 - Marvel Studios' much-anticipated Thunderbolts is looking to dominate the box office after flying high with the reviews from critics. The movie is already among the top-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbusters with nearly 90% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. ## According to Deadline, the superhero movie is projected to earn $175 million in its opening weekend at the worldwide box office.
