Box Office: Dhanush's 'Raayan' Surpasses 100 Crore Worldwide Gross; Becomes 3rd Tamil Movie of 2024 To Do So

Chennai, August 3 - Tamil star Dhanush's action thriller Raayan is turning out to be a huge box-office success, crossing 100 crores gross worldwide in just 8 days. It has become only the third Tamil movie of 2024 to hit the box office century after Indian 2 and Maharaja.## Written, directed, and headlined by Dhanush, Raayan grossed approximately 3.50 crores domestically on its second Friday (8th day), taking its total domestic cume to approximately 72.75 crores gross. The movie nears 50 crores gross in Tamil Nadu after 8 days and will cross this figure on Saturday.## At the overseas box office, the A-rated action blockbuster has minted an estimated 32+ crores gross, taking the worldwide cume to over 100 crores mark at 105 crores approx. in just 8 days. Tamil Film Producers Council Makes 8 Weeks Theatrical Window Mandatory For Star Heroes Films

Chennai, July 30 - The Tamil Film Producers Council has made some sensational decisions regarding the functioning of Tamil films and actors. As per reports, TFPC has decided to hold the shootings of the new Tamil movies after August 15. ## It is learned that many producers have complained about actors' negligence towards completing the films despite taking advance payment. TFPC has taken a decision that only after the actors and technicians finish the pending films, will they be allowed to act in the newly signed movies. ## One of the most important topics which were discussed by the council was the issue of films being streamed on OTT platforms early. Over the past few years, Tamil films, including star heroes movies, have been made to stream online within 4 weeks which has reduced footfalls in theatres, causing huge losses to exhibitors and distributors.## The producers' council has decided that going forward, the digital release of all-star heroes films will only be after 8 weeks of the theatrical run. Box Office: Dhanush's 'Raayan' Scored Excellent First Weekend Worldwide

Chennai, July 29 - Tamil star Dhanush scored a much deserving success with his latest action thriller Raayan after the excellent 3-day opening weekend at the worldwide box office. The A-rated blockbuster scored close to 70 crores gross collection, already one of the highest-grossing Tamil movies of the year.## Directed and headlined by Dhanush, Raayan witnessed a continued jump over the weekend at the domestic box office, which is not a regular case for South Indian films. With approximately 49 crores gross collection, the movie scored the second biggest opening weekend for a Tamil title of 2024, behind only Indian 2. ## In Tamil Nadu, Raayan minted approximately 34 crores gross, followed by approximately 5.50+ crores in Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telengana). The rest of the domestic market contributed approximately 10 crores gross collection. ## At the overseas box office, the movie has had a superb weekend with approximately 22 crores gross. This led to approximately 71+ crores worldwide cume, making it the 6th highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024. The worldwide opening weekend of Raayan has almost wiped out Dhanush's last film, Captain Miller's entire run of 75 crores gross. ## Raayan will cross Captain Miller and Ayaalan (76.60 crores gross approx.) by the first Monday or Tuesday to become the 4th highest-grossing Tamil film of the year. Box Office: 'Raayan' Scores Biggest Opening For Dhanush

Chennai, July 27 - Tamil action thriller Raayan has had an excellent start at the domestic box office with approximately 15.75 crores gross collection. It is now the biggest opening for actor Dhanush, beating his previous high of approximately 12 crore gross with Karnan in 2021. ## At the overseas box office, the A-rated title scored approximately 7.25 crores gross, for approximately 23 crores worldwide on opening day, again the biggest for the actor beating Captain Miller which scored approximately 14 crores gross.## The domestic box office of 15.75 crores of Raayan includes approximately 10.60 crores in Tamil Nadu which is again the biggest for the actor in the state. The Telugu version of the movie also fared decently with approximately 2 crores gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, followed by 1.80 crores in Karnataka, 90 lakh in Kerala and 40 lakh in the rest of India market.## It is the second biggest opening for a Tamil movie of 2024, behind only Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 which scored 30.25 crores gross in India and 56.25 crores worldwide on the opening day. Kochi, July 24 - Thalapathy Vijay's mega-stardom has once again shaken Kerala's trade with the record-breaking theatrical deal for his upcoming movie The Greatest of All-Time. Prashanth Neel To Collaborate With Ajith Kumar For Two Back-To-Back Films: Report

Chennai, July 24 - Amid the speculations of which film, between Prabhas-fronted Salaar 2 and Jr. NTR-starrer Dragon (NTR 31) director Prashanth Neel will start next, a new report has emerged that the blockbuster filmmaker is already in talks with Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar for not one but two movies. ## Earlier this year, it was reported that Neel would be collaborating with Ajith Kumar for a standalone movie, and now, according to the report by DT Next, the duo may also do one more film in Prashanth Cinematic Universe which could pave the way for Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 3.## "Ajith and Prashanth had a meeting during the Vidaa Muyarchi schedule break last month. Prashanth has asked over three years of Ajith's time. Their first collaboration, which could be AK 64, will be a standalone project. Chennai, July 15 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action thriller Indian 2 topped 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend and has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024, beating Vijay Sethupathi's actioner Maharaja in just three 3 days.## Directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 witnessed a continuous drop over the weekend due to mixed to negative word of mouth, but did enough to cross 100 crores worldwide. In India, the movie grossed an estimated 69+ crores gross and overseas, it minted an estimated 40 crores, for 109+ crores worldwide cume, beating Maharaja (105 crores gross approx.). ## Despite the 100+ crores opening weekend, Indian 2 somehow performed underwhelmingly as it was projected to score 100 crore weekend at the domestic box office alone. Kamal Haasan's 'Indian 2' Opening Day Box Office Expectations

Mumbai, July 11 - Legendary Kamal Haasan and director Shankar reunited for the sequel to their vigilante action film Indian (1996). Indian 2 has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year which can be seen in the pre-sales. ## The advance sales of Indian 2 started a couple of days ago and as of 9 PM on July 11, it scored approximately 15 crores gross pre-sales (with block seats) for the opening day in India. The original Tamil version is leading the sales with over 10 crores gross, followed by the Telugu version.## Indian 2 has already become the biggest Tamil opener of 2024 with advance sales only, and considering the trend, it is heading for 35+ crores gross start in India which could go towards 40 crores depending on word of mouth for all versions. ## The Hindi version (Hindustani 2) of the movie, however, is expected to take a low start. Los Angeles, July 11 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action film Indian 2 is set for a good start at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office. The pre-sales of the movie have been picking up with just a day to go before the release which is July 12. ## Apart from the domestic pre-sales, Shankar's directorial movie has managed to generate good advance sales for the North American premiere. Dhanush's 'Raayan' Gets 'A' Rating From CBFC; Runtime Revealed

Chennai, July 9 - Actor and filmmaker Dhanush's second directorial venture Raayan has been censored with an 18+ rating by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for extreme display of violence, opposite of the actor's first directorial movie, Pa Paandi (2017) which was rated with a 'U' certificate. ## Raayan was censored on July 9, Tuesday, with an 'A' rating and the approved runtime of 2 hours and 25 minutes (145 minutes) which is a crisp and suitable runtime for these kinds of films. Produced by Sun Pictures, the movie is scheduled to be released on July 26.## In the movie, Raayan trains himself and goes in search of the killers to avenge the death of his family, where his quest of finding the killers leads him through the criminal underworld. ## Dhanush plays the title role, leading an ensemble cast which includes S. Chiyaan Vikram's 'Thangalaan' Trailer Date Announced

Chennai, July 8 - The trailer of Chiyaan Vikram's period action drama film Thangalaan, directed by Pa. Ranjith, will be released on July 10, Wednesday, the makers announced on Monday. ## As one of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year, Thangalaan has been in production since October 2022. Chennai, July 6 - One of the most anticipated Tamil movies in the making, superstar Rajinikanth's action thriller film Coolie has started filming on July 5, the makers officially confirmed the development on social media. ## The movie is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures. As the shoot of the movie has commenced, actress Shruti Haasan has been confirmed as one of the female cast as she will reportedly play the role of Rajinikanth's sister. ## Shruti Haasan herself confirmed her casting in Coolie with a picture from the sets of the film on Instagram which she deleted later. Chennai, July 5 - Lyca Productions' vigilante action film Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan is set to be one of the longest Indian films as CBFC officially censored the much-anticipated Pan India film. Directed by Maverick S. Shankar, it is the sequel to 1996 Indian. ## Indian 2 was censored on July 4 by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a 'U/A' certificate with an approved theatrical runtime of 180 minutes and 4 seconds (3 hours). Director Shankar Reveals Plans For His Next Films After 'Indian 2' And 'Game Changer'

Mumbai, July 4 - Maverick filmmaker S. Shankar is currently busy with the promotional activities of vigilante action film Indian 2 which reunites him with legendary Kamal Haasan after Indian (1996). The movie will be released in two parts with Indian 2 scheduled to hit screens on July 12. ## After Indian 2 release, Shankar will wrap Ram Charan-fronted political action drama Game Changer which has been in production for a long time. It is likely to be released around Diwali this year. Now, the filmmaker has shared some ideas that he has been working on and will focus on them after the current assignments. ## During a recent interview with Pinkvilla, director Shankar revealed that he has been working on a couple of films, including sci-fi, a historical and spy action thriller. "I have 2-3 ideas - one is a historical film, and the other is like a James Bond film - not exactly James Bond, but I'm using the term for categorization. Also, there's a science fiction idea, similar to 2012". ## The filmmaker, however, admitted that all the aforementioned films he is working on are high-budget projects and would demand a lot of VFX. "So definitely those films will bring the technology that it demands. I will go through all the new technology that it requires and I will use that", he added.## Meanwhile, Shankar's last directorial flick was sci-fi actioner, 2.0, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the leading roles.
