Weekend Box Office: Marathi Film 'Pawankhind' Scored Big; 'Badhaai Do' Showed Growth

Mumbai, February 21 - The Indian Marathi cinema has been on a roll for the last few months with back-to-back box office success. After earning hit status with films like Jhimma, and Pandu, the recently released Marathi movies, "Lochya Zaala Re", and "Pawankhind" are putting strong show at the box office. ## Pawankhind, directed by Digpal Lanjekar, is particularly has created riots at the box office and become another Marathi success story. Released on February 18, the historical drama kept mounting over the weekend after taking a start of over Rs. 1 crore. After Rs. 1.15 crore on Friday, the film showed a jump of 80% for Rs. 2.08 crores on Saturday and later closed the weekend with Rs. 2.80 crore (+34%) on Sunday, taking a 3-day total to Rs. 6.08 crores. ## Based on the life of Maratha warrior, Baji Prabhu Deshpande, "Pawankhind" has done very well in the B and C centers where it recorded Housefull shows at the single screens. The first-week collection of Chinmay Mandlekar-starrer is eyeing to finish over Rs. 10 crores, which will be a phenomenal result for the makers. The budget for the film is in the range of Rs. 7-10 crores. ## Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar-fronted social comedy-drama "Badhaai Do" showed an upward trend over the second weekend. After collecting Rs. 75 lakh on the second Friday, the Harshavardhan Kulkarni-directed jumped by 105% on the second Saturday for Rs. 1.54 crores, followed by a 29.87% jump on the second Sunday for Rs. 2 crores. The total 10-days domestic collection of "Badhaai Do" stands at Rs. 16.89 crores. Overseas, the film has grossed approx. 3 crores so far. ## Serving as a spiritual sequel to the 2018 film "Badhaai Ho", "Badhaai Do" revolves around a couple in a lavender marriage. The movie received positive reviews from critics, praising the performances of the lead cast, direction, and theme. Top Indian Stars To Light Up Big Screen In The Month Of March

Mumbai, February 17 - The gloomy days seem to be getting over as the Indian film industry is readying for the blockbuster summer upfront. Having gone through more downs than ups in the last two years, the cinema biz was in dire need to make a strong comeback, and that comeback seems to be around the corner with blockbuster titles lined up to release during the entire summer of 2022. ## In one of our previous articles, we stated how the last week of February 2022 has become intense with blockbuster titles, but the fact is, its following month is looking even more promising in which a few of the top Indian stars will come together to light up the big screen. ## The big-screen entertainment in March will kick-start with legendary Amitabh Bachchan's biographical sports film "Jhund", which is slated for March 4, release. Ready since 2020, this Nagraj Manjule-directed is finally seeing the light of the day. This Pandiraj-directed will be Suriya's first theatrical release after two back-to-back OTT releases in the form of "Soorarai Pottru", and "Jai Bhim". The expectation will be high from the actor's big-screen comeback movie as he is one of the top stars of Tamil cinema. "ET" is produced by Sun Pictures and it stars Priyanka Arul Mohan as the female lead. ## A day after the "ET" release, one of the most anticipated and long-awaited Pan Indian biggie, "Radhe Shyam", starring Prabhas and Pooja Hegde will debut in theaters. This Farhad Samji-directed has everything, be it action, comedy, or romance, the audience could have asked for, and thus, there is a positive vibe among the trade and makers that it won't disappoint and will become the box office monster. The audience is already hyped with first look posters of Khiladi Kumar. It also stars Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Pankaj Tripathi, and Abhimanyu Singh in key roles. Sajid Nadiadwala has produced it under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. ## The ending of March will be the biggest when SS Rajamouli's highly-awaited Pan-India biggie, "RRR" will debut in theaters on March 25. Arguably the most-awaited Indian movie of the year, "RRR", stars Jr. NTR, and Ram Charan in the lead alongside Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in prominent roles. The film will be the top contender to become the highest-grossing Indian title of the year. It will be SS Rajamouli's first film since the release of all-time blockbuster "Baahubali: The Conclusion" in 2017. If all goes well, the period action drama film could take the opening of over Rs. 100 crores at the Indian box office. The weekend is still low compared to pre-pandemic levels but the growth has been encouraging. Badhaai Do from 1.65cr opening day collected 2.72cr on its 2nd day by showing around 65% growth and then on Sunday the film collected 3.45cr with the jump of another 25%+. These are signs of a very healthy trend for a film. Today is a big holiday which means Badhaai Do has another day which can collect well. Many circuits are still operating with a 50% occupancy rule. There are no night shows in other circuits. Despite that Badhaai Do has recorded a weekend that can be called very good considering situations. Rajkumar Rao And Bhumi Pednekar's 'Badhaai Do' Cleared To Release In UAE Excluding Sharjah

Mumbai, February 12 - Rajkumar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer "Badhaai Do" has been cleared to release in the United Arab Emirates, however, it will not be screened in Sharjah. ## "Badhaai Do", which revolves around a lavender wedding of convenience, has been permitted to screen only night shows in the rest of the parts of the UAE apart from Sharjah, for people aged over 21 years. ## The LGBTQ+ theme movies and shows are not acceptable in Middle East countries. Last year, Marvel Studios' "Eternals", directed by Chloe Zhao, was banned in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Jordan, because of the refusal of its makers to delete certain gay-themed scenes. The UAE, however, had allowed the film's release. ## Although 'Badhaai Do' has no obvious expressions of same-sex love, as in the case of the 'Eternals' characters Ben and Phastos kissing each other, it clearly has an LGBTQ+ theme, which is not acceptable in the Middle East.## In an interview with PTI, "Badhaai Do" director Hashvardhan Kulkarni said that the film is an attempt to normalize the discourse around the queer community and break certain stereotypes attached with their representation in cinema.## Produced by Junglee Pictures, "Badhaai Do", which is the sequel to 2018's "Badhaai Ho", released theatrically on February 11.## Stay tuned...
