Arslan Goni: Increasing pollution of every kind is causing much harm to the environment

Mumbai, Dec 26 (IANS) The increasing level of pollution in the capital and in other parts of the world is a matter of concern for each one of us. In fact, 'Mystery Man' actor Arslan Goni says that we all need to do something about it. ## "Increasing levels of pollution of every kind is causing a lot of harm to the environment. So that is something that I really care about and would urge everybody to join forces towards the effort to help Nature prosper. Even if I get something in plastic, I try to use it as many times as I can and not just throw it away'. ## "And that is also one big problem that we are facing in this country and even around the world. So yes, I'm very concerned about nature," said the actor who has done projects such as 'Jia Aur Jia' and 'Main Hero Bol Raha Hun'. ## "It's extremely irrelevant and unethical to see some people trying to get attention from a cause. How An Idea Became A Film: The Five-Year Journey Of 83

Mumbai, Dec 26 (IANS) Kabir Khan's Ranveer Singh-starer '83' has been in the making for a long time. The film was initially announced in mid-July 2016, the same year that saw a flurry of cricket biopics such as Tony D'Souza 'Azhar' and Neeraj Pandey's 'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. ## It all started with members of the legendary squad meeting at a suburban hotel in Mumbai to mark the anniversary of the celebrated win. ## The 1983 team's skipper, Kapil Dev, along with several other members of the squad, handed over the film after signing an MoU with Phantom Films, co-owned by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena. The film then went into scripting with director and screenwriter Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan taking up the onus of writing. ## Sanjay, who bagged the National Film Award for Best Direction for 'Bahattar Hoorain', sketched the foundation of the script, which was then handed over to Vasan Bala ('Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota', 2019). ## "The foundation of the film was laid by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. It came to me as his baby," Bala informed IANS. A close associate of Anurag Kashyap, Bala then added more flavors to the script in terms of perspective. "I worked on Sanjay's base screenplay, added my perspective and tone to it," the director-writer added. ## The film, which was slated to release in 2017, encountered several delays during its journey. ## On October 5, 2018, Phantom Films was dissolved a day before #MeToo allegations against one of its founding members, Vikas Bahl, by one of the women crew members, surfaced. The alleged incident happened during the early hours of May 5, 2015 after a party in a Goa hotel, ahead of Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet' release. ## After the dismantling of Phantom Films, Reliance Entertainment, which had acquired a 50 percent stake in Phantom, took the film forward. ## Bala completed the script and shared it with Kabir Khan, who then started work on the mammoth project. "And then I handed it over to Kabir Khan and his team. They took it and carried it to greater heights," Bala remembers. ## The next movement in the '83' clockwork was the casting. Kabir got in touch with the best in the business, Mukesh Chhabra, who then embarked on the journey to cast for the film. ## For Chhabra, "the idea behind casting was that the entire country should connect with each character". The casting director had earlier told IANS: "This film took me more than a year to cast because there were a lot of things that we needed with regards to the actors. They needed to know how to play cricket, and their language and their culture had to match with the corresponding characters." ## Several workshops were organised for the players to develop an understanding of their characters, the iconic shots of the cricketing legends, and the team spirit. Chhabra set up a camp where actors interacted with actual players. ## Once the pre-production and casting was locked, the film's crew swiftly slipped into production mode with principal photography starting on June 5, 2019. Along the way, Deepika Padukone, who plays Kapil Dev's wife Romi, came onboard as co-producer along with Kabir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Vishnuvardhan Induri. ## The film was shot in and around England for three months with a brief schedule in India as well. It was eventually wrapped on October 7, 2019. ## But then came the first wave of the pandemic, followed soon by the second. The contagion gripped major parts of the world, pushing nations into lockdowns. Showbiz suffered like never before, as theatres shut down, forcing the film's crew to wait for almost two years before seeing the light of day. ## The moment arrived on December 22, when the film was first unveiled at a star-studded screening in Mumbai, where practically the entire Bollywood showed up to render support to the big-ticket release. ## With the film garnering a positive response from metro audiences, Vasan is a happy man. "Happy to see it release and people enjoy it," he said, signing off. ##

Himansh Kohli takes long holidays between projects whenever there is a window

Mumbai, Dec 26 (IANS) Actor Himansh Kohli likes summers and winters alike. But he loves winters as during this season one can layer up and wear heavy outfits which otherwise one doesn't even dare to wear during summers. ## "Also, I'm a hot drinks person and they are relished the most during winters. So the cold season wins by a few points. I also feel Mumbai gets better weather during winters and becomes an ideal place to be in. I love the winters because everything is a little cozier during this season," says the 'Yaariyan' actor. ## For Himansh, London is the place to be during winters. "I even like staying at my home in Dubai during this season. It's really beautiful there. I feel most comfortable there as it's my second home. In India, I love to visit the mountains and places like Uttarakhand and Himachal. I make spontaneous plans with my friends and family, and head to these places," he shares. ## People in the entertainment industry hardly get long holidays. I take long holidays in between projects whenever there is a window," adds the actor. ## And, what do you love to eat during winters? "I love all winter dishes, but my favourite is piping hot Gajar Ka Halwa made by my mum. Whenever someone comes from Delhi, my mum sends a casserole full of halwa for me. I also like Kesariya Malai doodh a lot and it is my go-to drink after a hot coffee during winters," he shares. ##

Madan Lal Unspools His Memories of Kapil Dev's Historic 175 n.o.

New Delhi, Dec 26 (IANS) Madan Lal, who was a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team and took three crucial wickets in the final, on Saturday showered praise on director Kabir Khan for "doing justice" to each character in '83', and recounted the day when he got to see Kapil Dev's game-changing unbeaten 175 at Tunbridge Wells from the non-striker's end.## Talking about Harrdy Sandhu, the Punjabi actor-singer who plays him in '83', Madan Lal said he was brilliant in the movie.## "The movie is fantastic. Kabir Khan did a brilliant job. Every character in the movie was of equal importance. It was like reliving the moment. Everything shown in it was actually what happened," Madan Lal said.## He told IANS: "Kapil Dev's 175 was also exactly as portrayed. I know it because I was on the non-striker's end when I saw the 'Haryana Hurricane' in action at Tunbridge Wells."## Playing against Zimbabwe, the legendary Indian all-rounder walked in to bat when India was reeling at 17 for 5, with Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth both scoring ducks. Kapil smashed 175 off just 138 balls with six sixes and 16 fours -- his top score in ODIs as India scored 266/8.## "The innings did not get recorded, but I can assure you that whatever is shown in the movie is exactly as it happened," said the all-rounder-turned-cricket coach and media analyst, who scored 17 runs off 39 balls and scalped three wickets that day.## Madan Lal became the toast of India for his three-wicket haul in the final of the 1983 World Cup against the then mighty West Indies. He, in fact, had a brilliant outing in 1983, as he notched up 17 wickets in eight matches.## But he saved his best for the final, where he accounted for the wickets of Desmond Haynes, Vivian Richards, and Larry Gomes. The dismissal of the dangerous Richards proved to be the turning point in India's road to victory.## Stay tuned...

When Ranveer defeated the 'know it all' Ranveer! (IANS Exclusive) Bollywood

When Ranveer defeated the 'know it all' Ranveer! (IANS Exclusive)

New Delhi, Dec 26 (IANS) There's a famous saying: "Before you conquer the external world, you have to master the inner world of your mind". Very few understand and follow these discourses, but those who manage, go on to be achievers. ## One such person is Ranveer Singh. In a candid conversation with IANS, the actor, now seen playing Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan's '83', shared how he defeated his 'know it all' attitude during the initial stages of his career. ## Ranveer works extremely hard on his movies. From bulking up for his role of Alauddin Khilji in 'Padmavat' to transforming into a thin guy in 'Gully Boy', the Bollywood sensation is a living example of how one should approach one's work with utmost sincerity. ## There was a crucial lesson he learnt in the initial stages of his career and this eventually helped him become a superstar. ## The acclaimed actor has established himself as the biggest superstar of his generation with '83'. His performance is getting praise from both film critics as well as cricket fans. ## Despite such an impressive roster of achievements in a short span of time, the 36-year-old actor continues to be down to earth and believes there's a lot more to be done. ## "Mai actor ban gaya yaar, mujhe aaj tak yakin nahi ho raha hai! (I am an actor, I still can't believe it!) I got a chance to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Zoya Akhtar, Rohit Shetty, Kabir Khan, Karan Johar ... what's happening is beyond my imagination. I am overwhelmed with the response I am getting. Who gets Kapil Dev's role in such a big film? I'm touched," a teary-eyed Ranveer told IANS in an exclusive interview. ## Getting nostalgic, the actor said: "Let me tell you about my journey. Ten years back, when I started my career in Bollywood, I thought that I knew it all (in acting) and was entitled ... I mean after 'Band Baaja Baaraat', I thought I knew everything about acting. And was entitled ... like, whatever chances I am getting, I deserve it. ## "Actually, when I was struggling, I didn't feel like that, I was always so anxious at that time. My experiences made me anxious. I felt I had been wronged ... all the rejections, the humiliation! I (felt then that I) have been working hard for the past three-four years but not getting an opportunity. ## "After a point, it starts playing with your mind. And it starts making you feel frustrated, anxious and bitter. So, when 'Band Baaja Baaraat' became a hit, it was coming from inside. I started projecting entitlement ... that I know everything about acting. ## "But then, as time passed and I worked more and more, and as I matured, I realised, 'oh sh*t, I know nothing about acting'. This is limitless. There is no boundary. You can go to any extent. You can die here. This is what I learnt and realised that the more you work, the more you can give. Performance art has no limit," Ranveer said. ## Emphasising how grateful he was for the opportunities that had come his way, he said. "I feel really honoured to have worked with big directors. My mentor used to say that I must work in a way that next time when the director is making a movie, you should be his/her first choice." ## Ranveer is a shapeshifter, as we have seen from 'Bajirao' and 'Padmavat', to 'Simmba', to 'Gully Boy' and '83'. But there is a risk involved in this business of losing and gaining weight constantly. It can be dangerous. ## Responding to this observation, Ranveer said: "Yes, there is risk involved. I do take high risks. We have to shape our body as per the demand of the character. We train for this under supervision and follow a strict schedule." ## Helmed by Kabir Khan, '83' narrates the story of the Indian cricket team's historic 1983 World Cup win. Ranveer plays Kapil Dev, the captain of the victorious team; the rest of the cast includes Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Deepika Padukone, Neena Gupta and Wamiqa Gabbi. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

BY IANS News 📰 News

IANS Sunday Special: Our filmmakers: Trusted by all, not trusted at home (Column: B-Town)

India is in the process of shedding every irrelevant law, especially the ones enforced by the British Raj. Since the Government is in the process of abolishing these outdated and unnecessary laws, why not do away with film censorship? ## The British introduced censorship of films to keep a check in case a filmmaker included anti-Raj content or messages to provoke Indians. They did not really care if a film depicted romance, implied sex or violence. Yet, the filmmakers got away by including song with a national fervour in the Raj era. ## Even in the UK, the country which introduced censorship of films in India, the censoring of films is now only concerned with age-wise rating. The board there was renamed Board for Classification and the word ‘censor' has been removed. We renamed the censor board, but halfheartedly named it Board of Certification in place of Censors, which changed nothing! ## Censorship of films has often been used to blackmail filmmakers. Films show action, not violence, murders or lynching, which seem to be the norm in the country, which just about every TV news channel telecasts. It is seen by old and young alike in every household but that can't be censored. Action in films is meant to be entertaining and depicts good versus evil, which is what we are taught from birth. ## Our mythological epics, ‘Ramayana' and ‘Mahabharata', both narrate violence in detail, and yet they are revered, quoted and cited on a regular basis. Whenever these epics were made into films or televised, were they censored? That would have angered the people. ## Does a couple in love or married shown kissing on screen amount to sex? That was allowed even in the very early days of censorship in India by the British! Then, why did the Government of India consider it vulgar and ban it for years till it was allowed again from the 1970s onwards? All this in a country that boasts of the temples of Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where sex orgies are on exhibition in various details and we market it as a tourist attraction! In a country where we boast of the Kama Sutra by Vatsyayana, an explicit ancient text as our ultimate sex guide (and this is not-mythologica)! How vain and hypocritical can we get? ## The present dispensation claims to run a corruption-free regime. How can any process be corruption-free when a number of controls are placed on it? There will not only be corruption, but also hindrances created in filmmaking here. The Censor Board has no teeth when it comes to compliance with its certification. Any goon or politician can get up and raise an issue, arouse public sentiments to start throwing stones at cinema theatres, and stop the screening of a duly certified film. ## According to the law, CBFC certification is supposed to be the last word. Once a film is approved by the body, no one can object to it, let alone stop it (except a District Magistrate on certain grounds). But here, any stray complaint and trouble starts for the film. A film faces a break in its run or forced to discontinue, and there are numerous examples to show that once there is a break, a film loses its momentum at the box office. ## It is not only the CBFC that a filmmaker has to contend with. Even before the display publicity starts, the original designs have to be cleared and stamped by a producers' association. If you show a cat sitting on your lap, you need clearance from the Animal Welfare Board and, just to make it tougher, this body has been located at Ballabhgarh in Haryana, far, far away from the film industries in India. Again, depending on your theme, the Army or the National Commission for Women comes into the picture. ## As per the CBFC rule book, using the word ‘saala' is not permitted. Is this really a foul word? It is a tease word and the first that a child learns. It is a tease in that, when you call another lad a ‘saala', you imply his sister to be your wife. You see it on TV shows such as Kapil Sharma's. But, according to the Censors, it is not allowed. So what is allowed instead? The filthiest cuss words involving the mother and sister of another person, such as MC-BC, are okay as one may have observed in films lately. ## When it comes to OTT programming, words such as MC-BC are used as if they are a part of the grammar, randomly, causelessly. Not only that, sex, rape, sodomy, etc. have been seen in many OTT features. All this happens under the very Censor authorities that deny clearance to films on the smallest of reasons. And guess what? The Government has recently granted OTT products autonomy. They need not go to the Censors, They are told to adopt self-regulation! ## Imagine, the same producer makes a film as well as OTT streaming content. He can just go ahead and handover the content to his OTT platform for mass viewing and get his dues. But for his film, he will need to go through the CBFC rigmarole! ## Why this different treatment in the same entertainment industry? One gets a smooth ride, while the other gets stuck in the rigmarole of Censors, facing hurdles such as title and publicity clearances, the Animal Welfare Board, and what have you! Is this the ease of doing business that the Government so proudly proclaims? ## It looks like no Indian government treats filmmaking as a business, nor film production as an industry. Industry status was granted some years back, but it remains just in name. Are filmmakers some kind of sinners that can't even be granted self-regulation vis-a-vis the content of their films? ## Is this the single-window clearance that the Government has been promising to just about every industry? For films, there is a maze of windows within windows. ## Giving a free run to OTT platforms was not the only development. The UAE, among the most traditional group of countries, announced recently that it has decided to do away with the censorship of films. Indian movies that release in the UAE on a regular basis won't need a censor clearance anymore. They trust our filmmakers. So why are they not trusted by our own Government to be responsible to the very society they belong to? ## The film industry has been asking for self-regulation for years now and the Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association (IMPPA) has recently raised the issue again with the Government, asking for self-regulation instead of censorship of films. ## The very act of censoring films is the biggest contradiction to what the country stands for – the country of Khajuraho, the Kama Sutra, and Mahabharata, of which we boast. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

1983 heroes get emotional, observe minute's silence in Yashpal's memory

New Delhi, Dec 25 (IANS) Former India cricketers, including the captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team Kapil Dev, Syed Kirmani and Kirti Azad, became emotional remembering their late teammate Yashpal Sharma during the screening of '83', the Kabir Khan film based on the countrys first - and perhaps biggest - cricketing triumph. ## During the screening here on Friday, attended by several of 'Kapil's Devils', there were misty eyes all across the theatre when Yashpal (played by Jatin Sarna in the movie) came on to blaze a 120-ball 89 that helped India defeat West Indies in the 1983 World Cup's opening game at Manchester. ## A minute's silence was observed in the memory of the cricketer who died of a heart attack on July 13 this year at the age of 66. ## Sharma's knock had helped India make 262/8 and go on to register a 34-run victory. That win in Manchester gave India the self-belief to go on and win the tournament. Yashpal played two more peerless knocks in the 1983 World Cup, scoring 40 against Australia and 61 against England. and aggregated 240 runs in eight games. ## The right-handed batsman, who was the backbone of India's middle-order in the 1983 World Cup, played 37 Tests (1,606 runs) and 42 ODIs (883 runs). He also played 160 first-class matches, representing Punjab, Haryana, and the Railways, and scored 8,933 runs. ## The last time 'Kapil's Devils' had come together was on June 25 when the entire team, including Sharma, had gathered in Gurugram for the launch of 'Opus', a limited-edition book that captures the historic 1983 World Cup win. ## Kapil broke down during a TV show in Mumbai when he was told about the demise of his teammate. "I can't accept it … I love you Yash," he had exclaimed. He then rushed to Delhi to pay his last respects. ## Jatin Sarna, who plays Sharma in the movie, had told IANS on July 13, the day the legendary cricketer passed away, that he wanted to see the cricketer's reaction to '83'. ## Recollecting his meeting with the cricketer, Sarna, who was last seen in 'Sacred Games', had told IANS: "It was my turn to know about Yashpal sir and when I met him, he was very cool. That evening, I just silently observed him. The way he talks and walks. The next day we went for practice and he started teaching me his batting style and how he played his shots." ## Talking about the cricketer's death, Sarna had said: "More than anything, I am sad and disheartened. These are only two words I can associate with it right now. I was not expecting this. I had the responsibility of performing well earlier as well, but now it is my responsibility to put him back on the map. He is way bigger than me, but it's my responsibility because people will go to the cinemas to see him." ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

It took Ranveer Singh six months to perfect Kapil Dev's famous catch Bollywood

It took Ranveer Singh six months to perfect Kapil Dev's famous catch

New Delhi, Dec 25 (IANS) Bollywood sensation Ranveer Singh, who is getting love and appreciation from cricket and cinema fans alike for portraying Kapil Dev in '83', has revealed that it took him six months to perfect that famous backward-running catch, which was taken by the legendary cricketer to dismiss Sir Viv Richards off a Madan Lal delivery on June 25, 1983. ## '83' got a bumper opening at the box-office. And the Bollywood heartthrob is in awe after getting such a positive response from fans, and the "love and respect" that is being showered on the film from across the world. ## Ranveer was in the national capital for the screening of '83' and IANS got the opportunity to speak to him. For the film, the versatile actor has stepped into the shoes of the legendary Indian captain and one of the greatest all-rounders, Kapil Dev. ## The acclaimed actor is a shape-shifter who can perform any role with the same grace. From 'Bajirao', 'Padmavat', 'Simmba' and 'Gully Boy' to now '83', he has played diverse characters without any reference point whatsoever and has delivered the best performances. He has made his place as one of the best actors in the history of Indian cinema. ## "Ranveer is not imitating Kapil, he is inhabiting [the character]." This message has been reverberating across social media, with netizens going gaga over his performance in '83'. ## "I am overwhelmed with the kind of messages I am getting right now. Everybody is liking the movie - Sunil Gavaskar sir, Madan Lal sir, Kapil sir, my guru Balwinder Singh Sandhu sir, PR Man Singh sir all have messaged and praised my work. What else do you want when such great personalities appreciate your work," an emotional Ranveer told IANS. ## The actor recalled the making of the film. He shared how Kabir Khan proposed the idea of inviting Kapil Dev and asking him to spend some time with the actor. ## "I spent some time with Kapil sir in his house and he has such an impressive aura that people will fall in love with him. His smile, his laugh, his walk, his talk, his dance ... yeah, he has such cute dance moves. I used to see what he was doing and what's going on in his mind. What he might be thinking at that time in 1983. Watching him so closely helped a lot," Ranveer said. ## Asked what was the toughest part to learn, Kapil's bowling style, his attitude or batting? The actor replied: "I used to play cricket in my school days and I was a very aggressive and impressive batter, also a good fielder. So batting wasn't an issue. About acting, we are professionals, so that's our job to get into the character. ## "Yes, bowling was the toughest thing to learn. It took me several months … his wrist position, his iconic jump, rubbing the ball on the chest before delivering it, I remember Sandhu sir used to say, 'Tickle the nipple, tickle the nipple'," laughed Ranveer. ## "Actually, my biomechanics differ from Kapil sir's. I was coming from 'Simmba' (the movie) and had bulky muscles. So Sandhu sir told me to get into an athletic physique," he added. ## Quizzed about whether he finally managed to get some of the speed and outswing like the legendary all-rounder, Ranveer said, "Bahut stumps udaye maine fir to (I dislodged many stumps then). I can't say about the swing, but I was bowling really well, hitting the wicket." ## Ranveer also shared his struggles to match Kapil Dev's famous backward-running catch to dismiss Sir Viv Richards, which clinched India's win in the nail-biter of a final at Lord's. ## "It took me six months to get it perfectly done. The catch was tough running backward. So, Sandhu sir used to throw the ball and I had to run and take it," he said. Asked if it was a leather ball or not? Ranveer replied, "Yeah, it was a leather ball only." ## He added: "I practised it several times and Sandhu sir then used to give me six overs to bat as a consolation prize, which I loved the most. I was given a target and I have to chase it down. It was fun," he added. ## Kapil's innings of 175 against Zimbabwe didn't get recorded because the BBC staff were on strike that day. How tough was it to learn about the minutiae of the great innings? ## "It was no doubt difficult because there was no video recording of it. And I at the same time feel bad for Kapil sir. It was one of the best innings in cricket history. And now people, only after watching the movie, are appreciating the scene and figuring out how it was done at that time," Ranveer concluded. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

Lara Dutta recalls playing Indira Gandhi in 'Bell Bottom'

Mumbai, Dec 25 (IANS) Bollywood actress Lara Dutta, who plays the role of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Bell Bottom', recalls her experience of working in the movie which has its world TV premiere on December 26. ## She says bringing the character on-screen was challenging and full of responsibility. ## Lara says: "Working on 'Bell Bottom' was a challenging yet fulfilling experience. It was a huge responsibility to do justice to the role of Indira Gandhi ji and make it convincing to the audience. Ranjit Tiwari and I sat for hours and saw Mrs Gandhi's footage to get the nuances right. My father was her pilot so I grew up listening to her stories and how she spoke to everyone so that helped as well. And when I saw myself on screen, and the reactions that followed, it was all worth it." ## Directed by Ranjit Tiwari, the film stars Akshay Kumar playing the role of Anshul Malhotra whose life takes an important turn as he joins RAW and embarks on his very first mission as 'Agent Bell Bottom'. It also features Huma Qureshi as RAW personnel and Vaani Kapoor as Anshul's wife Radhika. ## The actress adds: "When Akshay first called me for the film during the pandemic and spoke about the character of Mrs Gandhi, I almost thought it was a joke because the entire industry was shut down and we didn't know how we would film. But taking up this part was a no-brainer. I wanted to do something different, and to portray Mrs Gandhi was an opportunity of a lifetime and a moment I will cherish forever. ## "This is my 13th film with Akshay Kumar in my 18-year career so that made it even more special. We all quarantined together for 14 days before the shoot began so it was like a mini holiday, and the on-screen rapport between us worked so well because we got to spend so much time with each other even before the shoot began." ## 'Bell Bottom' will see its world television premiere on December 26 at 12 noon on Sony MAX.## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.
