Box Office: 'Indian 2' Becomes Highest-Grossing Tamil Movie of 2024, Beating 'Maharaja' In 3 Days

Chennai, July 15 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action thriller Indian 2 topped 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend and has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024, beating Vijay Sethupathi's actioner Maharaja in just three 3 days.## Directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 witnessed a continuous drop over the weekend due to mixed to negative word of mouth, but did enough to cross 100 crores worldwide. In India, the movie grossed an estimated 69+ crores gross and overseas, it minted an estimated 40 crores, for 109+ crores worldwide cume, beating Maharaja (105 crores gross approx.). ## Despite the 100+ crores opening weekend, Indian 2 somehow performed underwhelmingly as it was projected to score 100 crore weekend at the domestic box office alone. The movie's 69 crores domestic collection includes an estimated 35.50+ crores in Tamil Nadu and 17 crores in Telugu states.## Language-wise, the original Tamil version grossed an estimated 48.50+ crores, followed by 16+ crores in Telugu, and 4.50+ crores collection in Hindi. The not-so-encouraging word of mouth did dent the movie's business in all areas.## Indian 2 will need to perform well during the weekdays to emerge a success. Chennai, July 14 - Veteran Kamal Haasan's vigilante action thriller Indian 2, directed by S. Shankar, scored the biggest opening of 2024 for a Tamil movie at the domestic and worldwide box office by a long margin. ## The sequel to the 1996 film Indian, Indian 2 grossed an estimated 30.25 crores in India and 26 crores overseas for 56.25 crores worldwide on opening day. Kamal Haasan's 'Indian 2' Opening Day Box Office Expectations

Mumbai, July 11 - Legendary Kamal Haasan and director Shankar reunited for the sequel to their vigilante action film Indian (1996). Indian 2 has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year which can be seen in the pre-sales. ## The advance sales of Indian 2 started a couple of days ago and as of 9 PM on July 11, it scored approximately 15 crores gross pre-sales (with block seats) for the opening day in India. The original Tamil version is leading the sales with over 10 crores gross, followed by the Telugu version.## Indian 2 has already become the biggest Tamil opener of 2024 with advance sales only, and considering the trend, it is heading for 35+ crores gross start in India which could go towards 40 crores depending on word of mouth for all versions. ## The Hindi version (Hindustani 2) of the movie, however, is expected to take a low start. The Hindi version pre-sales are currently approx. 30 lakh which indicates an opening in the range of 2 crore net (2.50 crores gross). It could go a little higher if WOM is positive but the competition with Akshay Kumar's Sarfira and holdover Kalki 2898 AD could dent its growth during the day. Box Office: Kamal Haasan's 'Indian 2' North America Premiere Advance Sales Details

Los Angeles, July 11 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action film Indian 2 is set for a good start at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office. The pre-sales of the movie have been picking up with just a day to go before the release which is July 12. ## Apart from the domestic pre-sales, Shankar's directorial movie has managed to generate good advance sales for the North American premiere. According to Venky Box Office, the NA premiere pre-sales of Indian 2 is $650K (5.45 crores), including $580K (4.85 crores) in the USA alone after the big jump yesterday.## In the USA, Indian 2 has sold approximately 28K tickets from over 1450 shows at 484 locations for the premiere which is on tomorrow. Hindi Box Office Success of Prabhas-Fronted 'Kalki 2898 AD' Inspired Early Release of Suriya's 'Kanguva'

Chennai, July 10 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action thriller Kanguva with director Siva is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a proper Pan India tentpole. ## The makers have been careful about Kanguva's release and were looking to bring it on the big screen after Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 - The Rule which is scheduled to release on December 6 this year. It has already become the biggest grosser of the year in Hindi with over 225 crores net collection and still going strong while worldwide, the movie is nearing 900 crores gross.## "I announced the release date for Kanguva the day Kalki was released after it started performing well in Hindi-speaking states. Otherwise, I would have waited for the release of Pushpa 2 to bring back the positivity. Director Shankar Reveals Plans For His Next Films After 'Indian 2' And 'Game Changer'

Mumbai, July 4 - Maverick filmmaker S. Shankar is currently busy with the promotional activities of vigilante action film Indian 2 which reunites him with legendary Kamal Haasan after Indian (1996). The movie will be released in two parts with Indian 2 scheduled to hit screens on July 12. ## After Indian 2 release, Shankar will wrap Ram Charan-fronted political action drama Game Changer which has been in production for a long time. It is likely to be released around Diwali this year. Now, the filmmaker has shared some ideas that he has been working on and will focus on them after the current assignments. ## During a recent interview with Pinkvilla, director Shankar revealed that he has been working on a couple of films, including sci-fi, a historical and spy action thriller. Chennai, June 27 - Tamil star Suriya's much-awaited pan India movie Kanguva with director Siva has locked Dusshera 2024 release. Director Shankar Reveals Reason Behind Splitting Indian 2 In Two Parts

Chennai, June 26 - Legendary Kamal Haasan returns as Senapathy to fight corruption in the country in the sequel to his 1996 film, Indian. Directed by S. Shankar, the first of the two-part Indian 2 is set to hit screens on July 12 in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. ## Originally, Indian 2 was planned as a single movie but the makers have now split it into two parts. At the trailer launch event on June 25, director Shankar and Kamal Haasan talked about the reasons behind splitting the movie into two parts. ## While Kamal Haasan revealed that bringing the film in 2 parts was purely director Shankar's decision as he was the right man to judge his script, the director said that the decision was taken due to the demand of the script which is lengthy and goes from regional to pan India. ## Shankar explained that the story of the film, which is based on corruption, revolves around just 1 state in Indian 2 but as the story spreads all over the country, it became important to tell this in another part, which is Indian 3. The first part is over 3 hours long. ## "Our initial idea was to do only one part. After I started filming and when I sat in the editing room, all the scenes from my point of view came out very well. If, for the sake of it, you have to make it in one part, if I compressed the whole thing, the soul of every scene, the feel of every scene would have been lost". Shankar clarified (via Times of India).## Kamal Haasan, meanwhile, appreciated the hard work put in by director Shankar and Lyca Productions to stay with the film despite many hurdles. In case you don't know, Indian 2 has been in the making since 2019, but the production was halted due to an accident in 2020 while filming that killed some crew members before the COVID-19 pandemic put a further dent. The filming was finally wrapped up in March 2024. ## The movie stars Kamal Haasan, reprising his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption, with Siddharth, S. J. Prabhas' 'Kalki 2898 AD' Worldwide Pre-Release Business Details

Hyderabad, June 22 - Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD is set to hit the big screens on June 27 amid massive expectations. The second trailer, which was launched on June 21, has raised excitement among the fans and trade which is expecting the movie to do wonders at the box office. ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD has managed to do a huge worldwide theatrical business as the makers locked record deals for all major areas. According to T2BLive.com, the worldwide business of the film has been valued at 370 crores with a break-even target is 372 crores. ## Kalki will need to score over 700 crores gross collection to emerge as a clean hit and if it does not reach its target mark, the makers will need to return the balance amount to buyers to make for their losses, however, the film is expected to project to become one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema.## In Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Kalki 2898 AD theatrical business has been valued at 168 crores, including 65 crores in Nizam, 27 crores in Ceeded, 21 crores in UA, 14 and 10 crores in East and West, respectively, 12 crores each for Guntur and Krishna and 7 crores for Nallore area.
