Early Estimates: Varisu And Thunivu Combined Scores Over 50+ Crores Opening Day

Chennai, January 11 - The Pongal 2023 festival weekend kicks off on a blockbuster note, thanks to the two most anticipated Tamil tentpoles Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu.## Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally directed "Varisu" while H. Vinoth helmed "Thunivu". Since both movies came on the same day, it was certain that no new box office record would be created but couldn't stop both films to bring combined joy to movie theaters and the makers. ## As per the early estimates, the combined opening day box office collection for "Varisu" and "Thunivu" is over 50 crores gross domestically. Thalapathy Vijay-starrer, as expected, is the biggest movie of the day but only just as Ajith-fronted comes really close to it. ## "Varisu" grossed an estimated 26-28 crores on the first day, and this includes an estimated 16-18 crores gross in the home state Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, "Thunivu" grossed an estimated 25-27 crores all of India, including 17-19 crores in Tamil Nadu. ## Outside Tamil Nadu, "Varisu" leads over "Thunivu", as per the estimates. In Karnataka, the former grossed an estimated 5 crores while later scoring around 3.50 crores gross. "Varisu" has a very good opening in Kerala, grossing approx. 3.50 crores, on the other hand, "Thunivu" grossed approx. 1.50 crores in the state. The Ajith-starrer also released in Telugu and grossed an estimated 2.50 crores in AP/TG. ## It's a long weekend ahead and word of mouth is good for both movies, especially for "Varisu", which got an excellent response from the premier show.## Stay tuned...

Theatrical Business Details Of Pongal/Sankranthi Releases

Chennai, January 10 - Four of the biggest stars of the Southern Indian film industry, Thalapathy Vijay, Ajith Kumar, Chiranjeevi, and Nandamuri Balakrishna, will be competing at the box office to attract audience eyeballs during one of the most lucrative Pongal/Sankranthi festival frames. ## Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu, scheduled for January 11 release, is easily the biggest film this Pongal festival as far as the movie business is concerned. It will be up against Ajith Kumar's Thunivu at the Tamil box office and both the movies are having neck-to-neck numbers in the advance booking with "Varisu" marginally ahead at the moment. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju, "Varisu" will need to perform strong legs at the box office as the break-even target for this family action drama film is on the higher side as compared to the other movies. The break-even target for the movie is approx. 155 crores share, which means, it will need to gross around 280 crores at the global box office. ## The break-even target for "Varisu" seems too little higher given the fact that it will have to share screens with "Thunivu" which is also due on January 11 release. It will, however, fancy chances, thanks to Thalapathy Vijay who has a mighty impressive pull at the box office.## On the other hand, "Thunivu's" break-even target is close to 88 crores share or approx. 165 crores gross worldwide. Given how previous movies of Ajith Kumar have fared at the box office, "Thunivu" is in a comfortable position and is expected to be a profitable venture for the makers unless it meets a poor response from audiences. ## Coming to the Telugu films, the producer for both movies, Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja's Waltair Veerayya and Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy is Mythri Movie Makers. The studio has done well to manage things and negotiate with theaters to find ways to give a proper release to both films. ## "Waltair Veerayya", directed by Bobby, has been valued at approx. 89 crores, similar to Chiranjeevi's last film "Godfather" which was an average affair at the box office. The trailer of the film met with a very good response from the audiences and the movie is expected to have a good run, at least, in the first few days. It is slated for January 13 release. ## Cult star Nandamuri Balakrishna leads Gopichand Malineni's action drama "Veera Simha Reddy", alongside Shruti Haasan and Duniya Vijay, which is due a Jan. 12 release. NBK is coming after delivering the biggest blockbuster of his career in the form of "Akhanda" and he will be looking to repeat the same with the upcoming movie. Mumbai, November 29 - The highly-awaited Tamil action drama film Varisu, starring Thalapathy Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna is getting ready to release in theaters on Pongal 2023. Rajinikanth's 'Baba' Set To Be The Biggest Re-release For An Indian Film

Chennai, November 29 - Superstar Rajinikanth's supernatural action film Baba is set to be re-released in theaters on his birthday on December 12th. The movie was originally released in August 2002, and even though it was a box office failure, the movie gets appreciation for Rajini's acting and other aspects.## Directed by Suresh Krissna from the screenplay written by Rajinikanth himself, the "Baba" re-release is already the talk of the town. According to the reports, the makers are making arrangements to release the film on as many as screens possible across India and overseas.## Over the last year, there have been a few South Indian films re-released in theaters with re-mastered versions, but none of them could get a huge release. Chennai, November 16 - Thalapathy Vijay's much-awaited family action drama film Varisu is getting ready to release on Pongal 2023.
