Los Angeles, April 24 - The happy days for the box office are back!## After projecting the global box office to reach $29 billion in 2023 in December 2022, Gower Street Analytics has increased its projection to $32 billion after an excellent response in the first quarter of the year. (via Deadline)## The London-based firm released its updated forecast on the evening of CinemaCon, the annual gathering of theater owners and Hollywood studios in Las Vegas. The forecast has been increased seeing films exceeding projections, led by "The Super Mario Bros Movie" which is running towards the coveted $1 billion mark. ## If the $32 billion projection for 2023 holds, this would represent an approximate 23% improvement on 2022, while still trailing the three pre-pandemic years (2017-2019) by 20% on average. ## Out of the $32 billion, the company is estimating the international box office (outside Hollywood) to reach $23 billion, including $6.8 billion in China. The North America box office projection is about $9 billion, approx. 20% improvement from 2022. ## The box office forecast for 2023 by Gower Street Analytics is based on the release calendar as it currently stands. The box office in 2017 was $40.9B, followed by $41.8B in 2018, and $42.3B in 2019, as per Gower. Over the last two decades, "Fast & Furious" has left a huge mark on worldwide audiences with the high-octane adrenaline-pumping actioners. ## It has been one of the most successful Hollywood film franchises with over $6.6 billion worldwide box office across the previous 10 films. Domestically (North America), the franchise has generated $1.86 billion with "Furious 7" (2015) being the highest-grossing film with $353 million domestically and $1.51 billion worldwide. ## The last film in the series "F9: The Fast Saga" (2021) grossed $726 million worldwide, including $173 million domestically during the covid-19 pandemic. As a journalist, Rob is drawn to the candidness in Mira's beautifully written texts. The highly-anticipated flick marks the finale of filmmaker James Gunn's trilogy and it will be the last Marvel movie for Gunn who is now the co-head at DC Studio.## Ahead of the release, the early box office projection for the film has been revealed and there are not as big as fans would have thought. This might also be because the previous Marvel movies weren't up to the standard the studio has set over the years and has been the most successful in terms of box office earnings in the world.## According to Box Office Pro, GoTG3 is projected to take a $120 million - $155 million in its domestic (North America) opening weekend and the lifetime domestic gross is expected to finish between $288 million - $403 million. ## As of now, the movie is poised to open (if opens to a lower projection) below Guardians of the Galaxy 2 which took the opening of $146.5 million and finished its run at $389 million domestically. The first Guardians film banked $94.3 million domestically in its first weekend and $333.7 million by the end of its run. ## GoTG3 will be the second Marvel release in 2023 after Ant-Man 3 which opened to a solid $106 million over the three-day weekend but failed to build upon this opening and will finish below $220 million. The all-female-led superhero sequel to the blockbuster "Captain Marvel" will see uniting Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and also Carol Danvers' number 1 fan Kamala Khan on a cosmic adventure. ## Soon after the trailer was released online, Marvel unveiled the official synopsis of "The Marvels". It also confirmed the important connection to the MCU's first project from the Multiverse Saga in, WandaVision. The core plot revealed that Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau has now been promoted to astronaut following her Hex-focused mission with SWORD in WandaVision.## The synopsis reads, "In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol's estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau.
