London, January 6 - The global box office collection for 2022 reached nearly $26 billion, $25.9 billion, according to Gower Street Analytics (via Deadline).## The worldwide box office in 2022 fell short of the projection of $32 billion but jumped by 27% from the previous year. The films, outside Hollywood, grossed $18.4 billion, including China, a 16% increase from last year at current exchange rates. ## Without China, which is the biggest movie box office market in the world, the collection outside Hollywood is estimated at $14.1B, a 55% hike in 2021. The Hollywood box office collection for 2022 hit $7.5 billion, up by 65% from 2021. ## The box office in 2022 showed a big sign of fast recovery but the numbers are still behind the pre-covid-19 era. The worldwide box office numbers in 2022 are 35% below the pre-pandemic three-year average (2017-2019), causing a loss of approximately $14 billion at current exchange rates, per Deadline.## The projection of $32 billion worldwide in 2022 was dependent on China's box office, but due to the covid-19, it is one of three markets that finished the year at a deficit versus 2021. China grossed an estimated $4.33 billion (-36% vs 2021), says the analysis.## Europe, the Middle East, and Africa generated $7.1 billion (-31% against the pre-pandemic average/+52% over 2021). Asia Pacific (excluding China) delivered $5.2 billion (-26%/+49%). Latin America brought an estimated $1.8 billion (-30% vs pre-pandemic average), a whopping 87% increase on 2021.## Top tracked international markets for Gower Street were China ($4.33B), Japan ($1.52B), the UK ($1.2B), France ($1.06B), and Korea ($900K). The sequel to Cameron's highest-grossing film of all time is living up to expectations, and now, becomes the number-one movie of 2022 globally. ## The sci-fi epic grossed $1.52 billion worldwide through 3rd Wednesday and becomes the highest-grossing film of 2022, surpassing Tom Cruise's "Top Gun: Maverick" which grossed $1.49 billion worldwide. The global cume includes $464 million in North America and $1.05 billion internationally through the 3rd Wednesday. ## Internationally, "Avatar 2" will surpass "Spider-Man: No Way Home" by Friday or Saturday to become the biggest grosser outside North America during the covid-19 pandemic era. Los Angeles, January 2 - Disney's Avatar: The Way of Water would be entering the profit zone in the next few days, according to director James Cameron's latest revised. break-even projection.## Cameron, before the release of the film, had said that "Avatar 2" would need to gross at least $2 billion at the worldwide box office in order to reach the break-even target, but now, he has said that he was a little inaccurate with that projection.## The blockbuster filmmaker further said that the movie will now need to be around the 10th highest-grossing film of all time to break even. Mumbai, December 30 - The Avatar mania continues to drive the Indian audiences crazy and is going great guns at the box office. ## The James Cameron-directed sci-fi epic, Avatar: The Way of Water has completed two blockbuster weeks at the Indian box office, minting 294.10 crores net (359 crores gross). It is heading toward another big week after jumping around 5% on its 3rd Friday for approx. 10 crores net.## The Avatar sequel has crossed 300 crores net collection, 304 crores approx in all languages on its 15th day, and becomes only the second non-Indian film to reach the milestone, after "Avengers: Endgame" (374 crores). The movie is having record collections in Southern Indian states, led by the original English language. ## It has netted approx. 160 crores in the English language, followed by approx. 98 crores in Hindi. It will be hitting 100 crores net in Hindi by tomorrow (3rd Saturday). Los Angeles, December 28 - Blockbuster filmmaker James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office and all it took to reach the milestone is just 14 days since its global rollout began on December 25. ## "Avatar: The Way of Water" is the 3rd James Cameron-directed movie to top $1 billion globally after "Titanic" (1997) and "Avatar" (2007). Cameron's next films will be "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" while it is not yet confirmed whether he will direct the 5th installment of "The Avatar" franchise.## The third installment of "Avatar" has been titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2024. Cameron revealed that 95% shot of "Avatar 3" has already been completed along with 5% initial portion of "Avatar 4", which is titled Avatar: The Tulkun Rider is also done. "Avatar 4" will hit theaters on December 18, 2026. ## "Avatar 5", which is not yet confirmed who will direct, has been titled Avatar: The quest for Eywa and it will be released on December 22, 2028. The movie has already become the second highest-grossing Hollywood movie, behind only "Avengers: Endgame" and now, it has reached another milestone. ## The sci-fi epic, which is the sequel to the all-time grosser of Cameron's "Avatar" (2009), has crossed 300 crores gross in India in just 10 days. It has scored approx. 305 crores ($37 million) in all languages, including approx. 30 crores gross on its second Sunday (10th day). ## The original English language of the movie has been the best performing with approx. 161 crores gross, followed by approx. 99 crores in Hindi. The South Indian languages have contributed approx. 45 crores gross. The movie has also crossed 250 crores net collection and will be breaching the 300 crores mark by Thursday or Friday. ## India has been the 4th biggest market for "Avatar" outside the domestic (North American) market. Mumbai, December 24 - Maverick filmmaker James Cameron, with his sci-fi epic Avatar: The Way of Water, is proving his might once again and there is no one to challenge him at the moment as far as the Indian box office is concerned. ## "Avatar 2" was the most anticipated Hollywood film in India ever since it was announced and the excitement for it never dropped despite the covid-19 pandemic. The long wait finally ended with the movie getting released a week ago on December 16, and as expected, Indian thronged to theaters to experience the magical world of Pandora.## The movie opened to the second biggest opening for a Hollywood movie in India with 40.3 crores net for all languages, behind only "Avengers: Endgame" which opened to mighty 53.60 crores net in 2019. Cameron's directorial met with favorable word of mouth and this led the movie to score a huge 128.8 crores net in the opening weekend and 193.6 crores net in the first full week. ## There was competition for "Avatar 2" in its second weekend with multiple new releases, including Rohit Shetty's "Cirkus". However, the movie remained unscratched and brought in nearly 60 crores net. "Avengers: Endgame" is currently the highest Hollywood grosser in India with approx. 374 crores net in all languages, and "Avatar 2" has already scored approx. 252 crores in just 10 days.## The underperformance of "Cirkus" has ensured an uninterpreted run till Pongal 2023 when multiple big South Indian films will be released.
