Kochi, November 3 - Malayalam superstar Mammootty's crime thriller Kannur Squad has done the worldwide business of over 100 crores, announces the actor's production house, MammoottyKampany. It has become one of the most profitable Mollywood movies of the year.## Directed by Roby Varghese Raj, "Kannur Squad" was released in theatres on September 28 and took the opening of 2.60 crores at the domestic box office. The movie received a super positive reception from the audiences and this led it to a score jump over the weekend and a steady run after that. ## "Kannur Squad" has completed 5 weeks and has grossed approximately 82 crores at the worldwide box office. In India, it has minted approx. 47.50 crores gross and overseas collection is an estimated 34.50 crores so far. It is the third highest-grossing Malayalam movie of the year worldwide, after "2018" and "RDX". ## Apart from the huge worldwide box office, "Kannur Squad" also fetched good streaming and satellite deals. Directed by Abhilash Joshiy, KOK is one of the most hyped Malayalam movies in recent times which has raised expectations.## The advance sales of KOK are historic and it is said to be the highest-ever for a Malayalam movie. Kerala Theater Owners Call For A Strike Against Early OTT Releases

Kochi, June 6 - The theater owners in Kerala have decided to take a strong stand against the Mollywood filmmaker for opting for early OTT release of their movies. It has been seen with most of the Malayalam movies that despite the very good run in theaters, producers have opted for early release on digital platforms. ## The latest in the list is the all-time blockbuster "2018" which was released in theaters on May 5 and will be streaming SonyLiv from June 7, less than five weeks after the theatrical release. This has left the theater owners disappointed as this film has been running with packed houses across Kerala state. ## Now, according to the latest development, the theater owners have called for a strike on June 7 and 8 as a protest against early digital releases. This means theaters won't be functioning across the state for the next 2 days. It is said that the Kerala theaters will demand an increase in the OTT window period from 42 days to 90 days.## Meanwhile, theaters that come under FEUOK (Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala) are already reportedly considering not continuing "2018" after its OTT release. It is also revealed that Kerala theatres have started to refund the ticket amounts to those who pre-booked tickets for June 7 and 8. ## It is to be noted that Kerala theater owners have been demanding a suitable OTT release window for the movies for a long time. Having already broken most of the box office records, "2018" has now claimed another milestone. ## Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, "2018" has grossed 101.30 crores through the 4th Thursday (24 days) which makes it the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time at the Indian box office, beating Mohanlal's "Pulimurugan" which grossed an estimated 100 crores (numbers might be manipulated). ## The Malayalam trade sources are divided over "Pulimurugan's" box office collection as some of them claim that it didn't cross 100 crores domestically while some claim otherwise. Taking average numbers of Mohanlal-starrer into account, then "2018" is the second 100 crores grosser Malayalam movie ever in India. ## The worldwide box office collection of "2018" has reached 170 crores, including approximately 68.70 crores of overseas collection.
