A.M.M.A. To Produce A Crime Thriller Film Featuring Over 140 Malayalam Actors

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (A.M.M.A.) will be producing a crime thriller film featuring 145 actors including superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty. Priyadarshan and TK Rajeev Kumar will direct this film, and it will be a fundraiser project to provide financial support to actors who are struggling in the Malayalam film industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ## The project was launched by superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal together after the inaugural ceremony of AMMA's new headquarters in Kochi. Ashirwad Films will produce the movie on behalf of AMMA.## The AMMA provides pension to all the Malayalam movie actors and this is being done through the annual donations from its members as well as through the interest generated by the movie 20:20 which was earlier produced by the association starring Malayalam superstars and was a big hit.## Mohanlal, who is also the president of the association, was quoted by the Times of India as saying that since it was tough to do a fundraiser show, they have planned to do a film. He has requested all actors to work in it. ## The pre-production works of the movie will commence soon and the shooting of the film will begin later this year. The film is expected to release in 2022. The association is also planning to organize a competition and ask the audience to suggest a title for the film.## Stay tuned...

Kerala Film Chamber Against Opening Theatres In State Amid The Dispute With Government

The Kerala film chamber has decided that it will not open theatres in the state even though the government has granted permission to open theatres from January 5 with 50 percent capacity by following the strict Covid-19 protocols and periodically sanitize the theatres.## The film chamber has said that it will not be in a position to open the theatres without any proper decision on entertainment tax by the government. The chamber and the theatre owners demand that entertainment tax must not be collected by the government to which there was no proper communication from the state government.## The office-bearers of the theatre owners' association said that opening theatres with 50% capacity and paying entertainment tax is not a feasible option. The government has also fixed the timing for screening movies from 9 am to 9 pm, which is not acceptable to the theatre owners as they feel that late-night shows draw maximum customers.## Siyad Kokkar, a senior producer and former President of the film chamber, told IANS (as quoted by India TV) over the phone, "I don't know how we can maintain the theatres without the government foregoing the entertainment tax and not allowing them to operate in full capacity. We are under tremendous tension as theatres have remained shut in the state since March 2020 while the overheads have almost remained the same".## Stay tuned...
