I Do Not Work On OTT, My Focus Has Been The Big Screen: Mumbai Saga Director Sanjay Gupta

Amid the rise of OTT platforms in India and many filmmakers opted to release their content directly on streaming platforms because of the covid-19 pandemic, director Sanjay Gupta has once again reiterated his love for theaters. Known for his high-octane action films, the filmmaker said he has never thought of making content for OTT and asserted his films are only made for the big screen. ## "I do not work on OTT. I am not even looking at the platform. My focus has been the big screen and on what will appeal to people sitting in a closed environment, on people who make an effort to go to watch the film", he told IANS.## Mumbai Saga, which is directed by Sanjay Gupta, will be hitting theaters this Friday (March 19). The John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi starrer delayed for almost a year due to the pandemic and just like the other films, the speculation of its direct-to-digital release had also started making noise. However, Sanjay was the one who always committed to Mumbai Saga's theatrical release which is happening now. ## For Gupta, shooting "Mumbai Saga" has been quite an adventure for him due to the pandemic as there was a lot of uncertainty out there. ## "This has been an experience unlike any in my entire career. There has been a lot of uncertainty. At one point of time, it was like a life-and-death situation as there were portions to be shot and the pandemic had peaked. We completed shooting the film right in the middle of the peak. We sat on the film for six months after that".## "But somebody had to come forward among the bigger films, so we decided to go ahead and release the film. The advantage that we have over the other biggies is that our budget is not that huge. It is a calculated risk. By coming to the theatres we may not make money, but we will not lose money", he said.## However, he adds that filmmakers like him are making an effort to ensure films get a good theatrical release and making sure that Mumbai Saga gets as many screens as it can. Though he is not sure about the footfalls and has no expectations about how many people will go to theaters to watch the film. The recently released 'Roohi' showing a good trend if not as good as it was a pre-covid era. Sanjay Gupta said that Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer has shown that people are coming to theaters which is a good sign going forward. ## Stay tuned...

'It Was Much More Difficult Than I Imagined It To Be', Arjun Kanungo On Acting In Salman Khan's 'Radhe'

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's "Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai" is all set to release on May 13 this year. After being delayed for almost a year, the actioner finally is debuting in theaters on the occasion of Eid. In between the proven stars, Radhe marks the acting debut for Arjun Kanungo, who, after proving his worth as a singer-songwriter, is all excited to prove his mettle as an actor in the biggie upfront. ## "The film is done I am still nervous. It was much more difficult than I imagined it to be, and I remember I was very nervous on the first day. Even thinking about it makes me nervous right now. But I have to say Salman (Khan) sir and (director) Prabhudeva sir were very encouraging. They helped me a lot. Everyone has been complimenting me, but I am nervous", Arjun told IANS as quoted by India TV.## Kanungo has had a successful career as a singer-songwriter and after the initial jitters, the 30-year old has produced blockbuster songs. Now, the young star is looking forward to starting his next journey as an actor and said that he is keen to see the audience's reaction to his acting. ## "There's this whole pre-conceived notion that singers don't make good actors. I am nervous to see how the audience will react and if they will support my acting career. I want to see if the audience will get over that bias", he told IANS.## It's not like Kanungo decided to pursue acting after becoming a popular singer-songwriter. He said that acting has always been on the cards, for that, he even joined a year-long acting course at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York, roughly seven years back, after finding to difficult to make a career in music.## However, when he came back to India in 2014, some of his cover songs had done really well on Youtube and that led Sony Music to approach him and signed him as an artist. Seeing a huge opportunity to work with such a big music label, Arjun jumped on to it which shaped his career. ## Then in 2019, he got a call that might change his life.## "It was Salman sir who called me and wanted me to act. He called me to his house in the middle of the night, and I remember Prabhu sir was there. It was just an incredible feeling to be there and work on a project like this with such big names attached to it", he says.## "I am excited to see it on a big screen and really excited to know how the audience reacts. The entire experience was hectic, but I really enjoyed being a part of it," he says hoping, quite obviously, that the film opens up opportunities for him as an actor", Arjun signed off adding that he will be pursuing acting as his primary focus from now on. ## Stay tuned...

Ramayan And Mahabharat Epics Inspire Indian Filmmakers For Mega Film Projects

The Indian mythological stories have always attracted the people and when it comes to epics, Ramayan and Mahabharat, people have always keen to know more about them. During the lockdown last year, Indian TV telecasted Ramayan and Mahabharat that not only liked by people but also broke the TRP records. ## The ever-growing interest of people in the Indian epics has made Indian filmmakers look into this genre for the big screen experience. Now, it seems that the characters and stories based on Ramayan and Mahabharat are the latest favorites of the Indian filmmakers as a host of new films based on these epics have been launched. ## Not only Bollywood but South Indian film industries also seem to be inspired by these epics lately. In the past, Bollywood has tried its hands on a theme similar to this genre just for the drama quotient. However, the upcoming roster promises to explore the stories with bigger production values. ## Here's a look at what's in store ## BRAHMASTRA## Brahmastra was announced many moons back but couldn't complete due to its large scale and of course, the covid-19 pandemic which halted the shoot. It is an ambitious action fantasy that draws its name from Mahabharat, where Brahmastra was a lethal supernatural weapon capable of destroying the entire universe.## The Ayan Mukerji directorial is said to be the first part of a trilogy that stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Mouni Roy in key roles. The film is planned to be released in 3D, IMAX, and standard formats in multiple Indian languages. However, the plot of the film is yet to be known as things are kept under wraps at the moment. ## ADIPURUSH ## A dream project of director Om Raut, Adipurush is an adaptation of Ramayan, where Telugu star Prabhas features as Lord Ram while Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan will be seen essaying Ravan. This film is already making a lot of noise due to its vast plot and scale. However, the film also sparked controversy in December last year after Saif Ali Khan mentioned in an interview that the film was going to show the "humane" side of Ravan. Though he later apologized for his remark saying, "Lord Ram has always been the symbol of righteousness and heroism for me".## The film is currently on the floors and will be releasing on 11 August 2022 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. ## RAM SETU ## Actor-producer Akshay Kumar has carved his space with patriotism and socially relevant commentary through mainstream films lately. With Abhishek Sharma's Ram Setu, he is falling back on mythology. Announcing the film on Twitter last year, Akshay had said the endeavor was "to keep alive the ideals of Ram in the consciousness of all Bharatiyas by building a bridge (Setu) that will connect generations to come".## The actor has sought permission from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to shoot the film in Ayodhya. Akshay will be backing the film too, besides starring along with Jacqueline Fernandez, and Nushrratt Bharuccha. The film is expected to go on floors soon and eyeing Diwali 2022 release. ## THE IMMORTAL ASHWATTHAMA ## According to the story of Mahabharat, Ashwathama is the son of guru Dronacharya, who was the weapon instructor of the Pandavas and the Kauravas. During the battle of Kurukshetra, Ashvatthama sided with the Kauravas and fought against the Pandavas. As per the Mahabharat, he is immortal.## The Immortal Ashwatthama is a superhero film starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead. The film is being marketed as a "high-concept visual spectacle". It will be helmed by Aditya Dhar who has earlier directed Vicky Kaushal in the 2019 film Uri: The Surgical Strike and produced by Ronnie Screwvala under his banner RSVP Movies. ## SURYAPUTRA MAHAVIR KARNA ## Another film that inspired by Mahabharat. It film narrates the story of Karna, son of Suryadev or Sun God, and princess Kunti, born before her marriage. Karna is one of the most important characters of Mahabharat. Written and directed by Malayalam filmmaker RS Vimal, the film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Jackky Bhagnani while the dialogues, lyrics, and additional screenplay are penned by Dr. Kumar Vishwas. It will release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.## Stay tuned...
