'L2: Empuraan' Breaks First Day Advance Booking Record In India

Kochi, March 22 - Superstar Mohanlal's highly-anticipated Malayalam action thriller L2: Empuraan has shattered a massive record in advance booking, beating the biggies of Bollywood and Tollywood industries. ## Empuraan is witnessing an unprecedented demand for tickets across Kerala state and this led to the record-breaking response on the first day itself. The pre-sales of the movie were opened on March 21, and in the first 24 hours, it sold 628K tickets on the ticketing platform Book My Show which is a record. ## No other film ever has sold more than 350K tickets in the first 24 hours of opening of advance booking on the platform. The previous biggest was Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD which sold 341.78K tickets on the first day and now, Empuraan has topped this by nearly a double margin. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan is the third on the list with 253K tickets. ## These 628K tickets sold are for all days, and not necessarily for the opening day of the release. The movie is scheduled to hit the big screen on March 27, and for that day, it has already sold over 500K tickets which is the highest ever for a Malayalam title by a good margin. ## Meanwhile, in terms of advance gross collection, Empuraan has minted around 12 crores (including fan shows) for the first day in India. Worldwide, the pre-sales have crossed the 30 crore mark which is already the highest first-day collection for a Mollywood film. Mumbai, March 22 - Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted action drama Salaar Part 1 - Ceasefire was re-released on March 21 and it did fantastic business at the domestic box office. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film was originally released in December 2023. ## Salaar: Ceasfire re-released without any special occasion, an unusual Telugu thing. On its first day, the film grossed approximately 3 crore in India, which is the biggest re-release opener for a Prabhas-starrer. It wasn't released in North India, otherwise, the opening could have been higher. ## The advance booking gross of Salaar: Ceasefire was one of the highest for an Indian title which led the foundation of a very good opening. The movie was expected to score ever higher opening but lack of release in North probably reduced its potential, though the numbers are still fantastic and easily the biggest opening for a re-release title in India in 2025. ## During its original run, the action blockbuster scored approximately 618 crores at the worldwide box office, including 488 crores in India. Kochi, March 22 - Superstar Mohanlal's action thriller L2: Empuraan has shattered many records even before the first show begins. The movie has been creating a sensation ever since the advance booking opened in India and worldwide and this has led it to create records. ## Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Empuraan pre-sales have crossed 10 crore gross in India for the opening day (including fan shows) while worldwide sales are nearing 30 crore gross. With this, it has become the biggest Malayalam opener of all time worldwide with pre-sales only. ## The previous biggest Mollywood opener was Mohanlal's Marakkar (20+ crores gross) and Empuraan is already 10 crores more with still 5 days left for the release. Mumbai, March 21 - Vicky Kaushal-fronted historical action drama Chhaava is doing excellent business at the box office. Based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Chhaava is already the highest-grossing Indian film of the year with a worldwide collection of around 775 crores gross. ## Chhaava is currently running in its 6th week and nearing 800 crores gross collection. The movie will run in theatres for a minimum of 8 weeks before it is made available on OTT, however, even before the deadline, it has been hit by massive piracy and the investigation has begun for the same. ## According to the reports, Chhaava's HD prints have been leaked online and the Mumbai Police is said to have registered a case in this matter. The movie was deliberately leaked online through pirated sites on more than 1800 digital links. This isn't the first time a Bollywood film has leaked before its official digital release as there have been many such cases in the past. ## It is said that producer Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films anticipated this illegal activity and reportedly hired an anti-piracy agency to handle this matter legally. The South Cyber ​​Cell has reportedly registered a case under sections 316 (2) and 308 (3) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), sections 51, 63 and 65 (A) of the Copyright Act, sections 43 and 66 of the Information Technology (IT) Act.## Chhaava is directed by Laxman Utekar and it stars Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj alongside Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale and Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb. Kochi, March 21 - The box office is breathing fire again, this time in the most uncharted territory (with huge potential) of Indian cinema with superstar Mohanlal's Malayalam blockbuster L2: Empuraan. There can't be a happier moment for the overall Indian film industry than seeing the rise of the Mollywood which has unanimously been applauded as the content factory. ## Over the last few years, Indian cinema has witnessed box office mayhem, mostly in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil film industries. But no one in their wildest of dreams had thought that a Malayalam Pan India film would top all other industries. Well, Empuraan has done that, at least, in terms of selling the highest number of tickets in an hour before release. ## The advance booking of Empuraan was opened at 9 AM on March 21 and by 10:30 AM, it had started selling tickets at 96K/hour which is a record for an Indian film before the official release. Interestingly, the booking hasn't opened much outside the home state, Kerala, and it is a matter of time before it touches the 100K/hour trend which is no less than a red letter moment for the content-rich Mollywood. ## Malayalam cinema hasn't produced many big-ticket entertainers in the past and this is the first time it has made a Pan India film of this scale. While the current bookings trend is limited to only the home state, it wouldn't be a surprise if the movie starts following the same in other parts of the country, especially since the first part of the movie, Lucifer (2019) has been widely watched on television across the country in dubbed versions. ## There have been many rich box office moments for Malayalam cinema over the last couple of years but none of them was of the scale of Empuraan which is re-writing history not for its own industry but for overall Indian cinema, and as said above, there can't be a happier moment for Indian film industry than this.## Empuraan is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran who also plays a key role in the film. Kochi, March 20 - Superstar Mohanlal's action thriller Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is re-writing history in its overseas pre-sales and is all set to start with a bang at the box office upon its worldwide release on March 27. ## The film is having a never-before-seen mass hysteria in the advance sales in the international market. With 6 days still left for the release, the opening day pre-sales of the film has crossed the 15 crore mark, which is already a record for a Malayalam title overseas. ## The worldwide bookings have crossed 12 crores gross, even without the regular bookings in the domestic market. Mumbai, March 19 - Superstar Salman Khan is all set to set the box office on fire with his upcoming action drama film Sikandar. The movie is directed by AR Murugadoss and this marks his maiden collaboration with the Bollywood superstar. ## Sikandar is scheduled to be released on March 30, Sunday, and ahead of the release, director Murugadoss has revealed some details about it. The movie will be sent to the censor board in a couple of days but the filmmaker revealed the theatrical runtime of it in an interview with Pinkvilla.## The director confirmed that the Sikandar run time is about 2 hours and 20 minutes, which includes the first half of around 1 hour and 15 minutes and the second half is about 1 hour and 5 minutes.
