Kochi, March 8 - Mollywood star, Dulquer Salmaan has joined the long list of Malayalam stars to take the non-theatrical route for his upcoming cop crime thriller film, "Salute", which is slated to premiere directly on SonyLiv.## Dulquer Salmaan was one of the few top Malayalam stars left with no direct OTT release yet, and now, he is also joining the likes of superstar Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in taking the digital route. ## Interestingly, "Salute" was slated for theatrical release in January this year. But due to the 3rd covid-19 wave, the makers postponed it with a promise to release it in theaters only. The Rosshan Andrrews-directed, however, will now be released on SonyLiv on March 18. While his Malayalam film "Kurup" became a big box office hit, his follow-up, a romantic-comedy titled "Hey Sinamika", couldn't find the audiences at the box office. It was, however, released in Tamil, and Telugu. ## Talking about "Salute", it is written by Bobby-Sanjay and produced by Dulquer Salmaan under his banner Wayfarer Films. The film marks Diana Penty's Malayalam debut as the female lead opposite Salmaan. It also stars Manoj K. And for the first time since its debut in December 2021, the superhero movie has dropped from the top 3 positions, thanks to the new DC superhero release, "The Batman". ## While Robert Pattinson-headed "The Batman" comfortably took the first position by a long way for $134 million opening weekend launch, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" slipped to number 4, grossing $4.4 million in its 12th domestic weekend. ## Despite losing the top 3 positions, the Marvel/Sony film is very much is in the race to cross $800 million domestically, which could be a miraculous achievement during the covid-19 pandemic. The period romantic film, directed by Radha Krishna Kumar, was originally slated for 2021 release, but the covid-19 pandemic forced makers to change their plans like most other movies. ## Meanwhile, Prabhas made full use of the free time he got in the last two years, thanks to the pandemic. During the said period, the "Saaho" signed films after films that appeal to global audiences. He is one of the actors who like to finish one film before moving on to the next. But the pandemic made him work on multiple projects simultaneously to keep the fans entertaining once things turn normal. ## During a recent interview while promoting "Radhe Shyam", Prabhas explained the reason behind taking multiple films simultaneously. Being one of the fan favorites and called 'darling' by his well-wishers, the "Baahubali" star said that he loves to entertain his fans continously which is the main reason behind signing so many films. ## "I have signed many films for a reason. It all began with Nana Patekar's "Natasamrat", which became the first Marathi movie to gross over Rs. 50 crores at the box office. ## However, the record of "Natasmrat" was later outscored within five months when the all-time blockbuster Marathi movie "Sairat" was released on April 29, 2016. It grossed over Rs. 100 crores at the worldwide box office and remains the only Marathi movie to achieve the feat to date. ## Now, there is another movie that is finding its legs in the record books. "Pawankhind", a historical drama film directed by Digpal Lanjekar and produced under the banner of Almonds Creations in association with A A Films, has been unstoppable ever since it debuted in theaters on 18 February 2022. ## Based on the life of Maratha warrior, Baji Prabhu Deshpande, "Pawankhind" has completed 17 days at the box office, and it has grossed a super Rs. 31.50 crores in India. It has stormed into the list of Top 10 highest-grossing Marathi movies of all time, taking the 7th spot (as of March 6) in the list. It will easily cross the next two movies, "Naal" (Rs. 32 crores), and "Timepass" (Rs. 33 crores), to reach number 5 in the list. ## The film depicts the historical rearguard last stand that took place on 13 July 1660 at a mountain pass in the vicinity of fort Vishalgad, near the city of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India between the Maratha Warrior Baji Prabhu Deshpande and Siddi Masud of Adilshah Sultanate, known as Battle of Pavan Khind. ## "Pawankhind" was originally slated for June 2021 release, but the makers were forced to postpone it due to the second covid-19 wave. Los Angeles, March 6 - Robert Pattinson's debut as Caped Crusader ignited domestic box office as "The Batman" scored a mighty $134 million over the opening weekend, making the best opening weekend of 2022 and the 2nd biggest during the entire covid-19 pandemic. ## The Matt Reeves-directed is nearly two and a half times bigger than the second-best 2022's movie Sony's "Uncharted", which grossed $44 million in the opening weekend in February. Interestingly and very promisingly, "The Batman" is only the second non-Chinese movie during the pandemic to cross the $100 million mark in a single weekend, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home's" historic $260 million in December 2021. ## The DC superhero movie has the widest domestic release in over 4417 theaters during the pandemic. The film had grossed $56.6 million on Friday, which also included $21.6 million pre-shows. On Saturday, the movie dropped 24% for $43.25 million, followed by a 21% drop on Sunday for $34.15 million. The average per-theater ticket sale was $29,092 during the weekend. ## The latest outing in the blockbuster franchise has also taken the 3rd biggest opening for a solo Batman movie. For Warner Bros., it is the biggest debut since 2016's "Suicide Squad", which grossed $133.6 million, and the studios' first movie to cross $100 million in the opening weekend since 2017's "It". ## The $200 million budgeted adventure movie has very well been received by the audience with A- Cinema Score. "The Batman” is shaping up to be a commercial winner for Warner Bros.
