Box Office: Sports Biopic '83' Goes Past Rs. 100 Cr. Domestic Net

Mumbai, January 10 - Ranveer Singh-starrer "83" has become the second Bollywood film to reach Rs. 100 crores net at the domestic box office since the last year. The sports biopic netted approx 3.50 crores in the 3rd weekend, pushing its total India net to Rs. 100.50 crores for all languages. ## "83" becomes the 6th film for Ranveer Singh to enter Rs. 100 crores net club. "Padmaavat" remains his highest net earning film of all time with Rs. 302.15 cr., followed by Simmba (Rs. 240.3 cr.), Bajirao Mastani (Rs. 184.3 cr.), Gully Boy (Rs. 139.63 cr.), and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (Rs. 117.53 cr.). ## At the overseas box office, the Kabir Khan-directed has grossed approx Rs. 59 crores in 17 days, helping its worldwide gross total to reach Rs. 176 crores after the 3rd weekend. It is only the second Bollywood film after Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi" to gross over Rs. 150 crores worldwide since Ajay Devgn's "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" in January 2020.## Despite all the aforementioned box office numbers, makers would be feeling that the movie has underperformed at the box office. It was looked like an outright blockbuster, however, the competition with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and Allu Arjun's "Pushpa" have reduced its chances to go big in Hindi markets, plus, the restrictions on cinemas have also hit it hard. ## While "83" is finding it difficult to cope up with current circumstances, Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise" is going wild at the box office in Hindi versions. In fact, this action-thriller is growing day by day, especially on single screens. The dubbed Hindi version of the film netted approx. Rs. 9 crores in its 4th weekend, and its total Hindi collection now strongly stands at Rs. 81.50 crores. ## Directed by Sukumar, the "Pushpa" Hindi version has contributed 35% to the total India gross collection of the film, making it one of the biggest contributions for a dubbed version of a Pan-India film. Universal/Illumination's computer-animated musical comedy film, "Sing 2" has become the first animated movie to reach $100 million at the domestic box office (North America) since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic. ## Directed by Garth Jennings, the sequel to the 2016 film "Sing" breached the $100 million mark on Saturday in just 17 days of its release. This also becomes the first animated film to pass $100 million domestic since Frozen II ($477 million from a $130 million debut) in November 2019. By the end of its 3rd weekend, "Sing 2" will likely stand at $107 million domestically.## Overseas, the Matthew McConaughey/Reese Witherspoon/Scarlett Johansson-led film has earned approx $68 million, pushing its worldwide box office total to $175 million. The 85M budgeted film was theatrically released in the United States on December 22, 2021. The film received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and moviegoers alike. ## Like the previous film, Sing 2 features songs from many artists, most of which are performed diegetically. The story is set after the events of the previous film, where Buster Moon and his group put on a show in Redshore City while working to impress an entertainment mogul and enlist a reclusive rock star to perform.## Dinsey's musical fantasy comedy is the second-highest-grossing animated film in North America during the health crisis. Mumbai, January 9 - "Spider-Man: No Way Home" continuous to merry records at the global box office. The superhero flick, headed by 25-year old Tom Holland, has been a massive turnaround as far as box office is concerned. When the global box office needed someone to bell it out from the covid-19 pandemic, "No Way Home" shouldered that responsibility and became the global box office king during the health crisis. ## The Marvel/Sony film has so far earned over $1.40 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the 11th highest-grossing film of all time. At the domestic box office, it has so far grossed $644 million over 22 days. By the end of the 4th weekend, it will become the 6th highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office (North America), leapfrogging "Jurassic World" ($652M), and "Titanic" ($659M).## The overseas box office total of "No Way Home" are even stronger than its domestic total. With $759 million in international markets, it is currently the highest-grossing Hollywood film overseas during the entire covid-19 pandemic. "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is already the highest-grossing film at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office for Sony Pictures and also the first $1 billion grosser since December 2019 and the 3rd fastest ever to reach $1B global mark. ## The box office records aren't the only achievement "No Way Home" has gained. This record-breaking juggernaut had begun in August 2021 with the first trailer of the film. The trailer had received an unprecedented response all across the globe which helped it to break the 24-hours all-time viewership record. ## The trailer racked up 355.5 million views worldwide, far outpacing previous record-holder Avengers: Endgame, which boasted 289 million views for its inaugural trailer over its first 24 hours. As revealed earlier, the actor will be teaming up with his "Valimai" director H Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor again for "AK61". It will be another action thriller film billed on strong emotions. Interestingly, Thala Ajith will reportedly be playing a negative role in the film after a long time. ## According to a Pinkvilla report, "AK61 marks his return to the negative role space after a long time. Fans have loved Ajith in these shades, and Vinoth has developed a character that would justify the return of the superstar to this space after a long time". ## Thala Ajith has previously played negative roles in films like Billa, Mankatha, among others, so it will be interesting to see what the actor will bring new to this space. Bangalore, January 8 - The makers of Kichacha Sudeepa's big-budget action-adventure film "Vikrant Rona" have reinstated their commitment to the film's theatrical release, despite the lucrative OTT offers. Directed by Anup Bhandari, "Vikrant Rona" is currently slated for February 24, 2022, worldwide in multiple languages. ## Since the movie has been delayed a few times, there were reports that the makers might take the OTT route for the film. It has been reported that one of the leading digital platforms offered Rs. 100 crores for direct-to-OTT release. Producer Jack Manjunath too confirmed that they are getting many big offers but they are committed to the theatrical release of the film. ## "It is true that we have been receiving some really good offers for direct online releases as it is a film that created a buzz nationally. But the film has seen nearly three years of hard work to ensure it is a world-class 3D release. Hence, while the prices being offered are tempting, we are waiting for a proper theatrical release to ensure everyone sees our vision the way we intended them to", he said according to ETimes. ## Meanwhile, the makers haven't taken a call on pushing the release date of "Vikrant Rona" yet as the country is going through the third covid-19 wave. Many states have imposed restrictions on theaters, including Karnataka, where theater capacity has been reduced to 50% and night curfews have also been introduced. ## However, they did have to change their plans with regard to promotions. "We had a teaser that was planned for a January-11 release where it would have been playing along with all the big festive releases across different languages. But, with most of them postponing their releases, we were forced to change that plan and have deferred our teaser launch for now".## "Vikrant Rona" is a 3D film that will be released in Kannada along with dubbed versions of Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and other languages. The cast of the film also includes Nirup Bhandari, Neeta Ashok, and Vasuki Vaibhav, among others. Mumbai, January 8 - "Spider-Man" fans in India will have to wait for a longer period to watch "Spider-Man: No Way Home" on the digital platform after the theatrical window of this global blockbuster has been extended in the country. The Tom Holland-fronted, which has grossed over Rs. 260 crores in India so far, will continue to play exclusively in theaters for at least two more months. ## Vivek Krishnani, Managing Director, Sony Pictures Films India says, "The fact that this is the biggest post-pandemic global hit indicates that the audiences are ready to return to theatres if the film in question offers them everything they are looking for. 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' did exactly that".## He adds, "Even though the franchise already had an enviable fan base, the film exceeded everybody's expectations with a staggering star cast, scaled up, breathtaking action, and multiple twists that took the fans by complete surprise and took their breath away. The film will hence continue to stay in theatres because it is still attracting diehard fans for repeated viewings".## The Marvel/Sony superhero film, which was released on December 16 in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, has played a massive role in bringing people back to theaters. It had the widest release ever for a Hollywood movie in India, which helped it to take a thundering opening at the box office. Multiplex chains too have gone all out to ensure the safety of all the movie-goers and are continuing to adhere to the highest standards of cleaning and sanitization.## Kamal Gianchandani, President, Multiplex Association of India and CEO, PVR Pictures Ltd, says, "The winter 2021 season kickstarted with 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' in India with phenomenal advance bookings, a day before the worldwide release. The duo reportedly has a photoshoot session today as the makers are planning to make the official announcement of the film in the upcoming days. ## The action-comedy, which has tentatively been titled "Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan", has reportedly been planned to be made on a massive budget. According to Pinkvilla, it will be one of the costliest Bollywood films with a budget of around Rs. 300 crores, making it the costliest film for both Akshay and Tiger. ## Ali Abbas Zafar is currently working on Shahid Kapoor-starrer "Bloody Daddy", and after wrapping up, he will commence pre-production work of Akshay-Tiger's film. It is expected to go on floors towards late 2022 while the movie is currently being planned for a 2023 release worldwide. Pooja Entertainment, which produced Akshay's "Bell Bottom", and "Cinderella", will be bankrolling to mega-budgeted film. ## "The Bhagnani's have been planning to set up a big two-hero film with Akshay for a while now. They were toying around with multiple ideas and it's finally, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, that has been greenlit by AK", according to Pinkvilla. 'Pushpa - The Rise' Continued Its Historic Box Office Run In Hindi In 3rd Week

Mumbai, January 7 - Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise" is scripting new records at the box office. The action-thriller, after putting a dominating performance in the first two weeks, continued its juggernaut in the 3rd week as well with a drop of just 10% from its 2nd week for an estimated Rs. 36.77 crores. ## The Hindi dubbed version of "Pushpa - The Rise" is undeniably standing tall amongst all other versions. In the 2nd week, the Hindi version of the film contributed approx 50% of the total 2nd-week collection while in the 3rd week, the Hindi contribution jumped to a massive 68%. The fact is, "Pushpa" Hindi was stronger in 3rd week than the first two weeks at the box office, despite the scare of covid-19 and tough restrictions on cinemas. ## The Hindi biz of "Pushpa - The Rise" is simply unimaginable. It has so far netted approx Rs. 72.31 crores, including Rs. 25.06 crores in the 3rd week, making it the 3rd biggest grosser of 2021 in Hindi after "Sooryavanshi", and "83". Looking at its strong legs at the box office, theaters are preffering this Sukumar-directed over "83" in Hindi belt and allowed more screens from the 3rd weekend onwards. ## Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, and Muttamsetty Media, "Pushpa - The Rise" is nearing Rs. 300 crores at the worldwide box office. In India, it has grossed Rs. 265.4 crores in the first three weeks, including Rs. 156.11 crores in the original Telugu version. It will be Allu Arjun's first Rs. 300 crores worldwide grosser of his career. ## "Pushpa - The Rise", meanwhile, has been made available on Amazon Prime Video from January 7 onwards in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions. The OTT platform and premiere date haven't been announced as it is still going strong at the box office. Goldmines Films has the Hindi rights of the film. ## The movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead alongside Fahadh Faasil (in his Telugu debut) as the main antagonist while Sunil, Dhananjaya, Ajay Ghosh, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and Rao Ramesh in supporting roles.
