Mumbai, January 6 - Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Lawrence's climate change satire "Don't Look Up" has shattered viewing records worldwide on Netflix. The Adam McKay-directed has officially become the most viewed Netflix movie in a single week. ## Netflix confirmed (via Deadline) that "Don't Look Up" was watched by 152.29 million hours worldwide in the week of December 27 – January 2, which is a new record on Netflix. It is currently the 3rd most viewed film of all time on Netflix in the first 28 days with 263.3 million viewing hours. ## By the time of writing this article, "Don't Look Up" might have surpassed "Bird Box" to claim the second spot of Netflix's most-watched film in the first 28 days. The first 12-days of viewing data indicates that "Don't Look Up" will likely top the Netflix chart by the end of its 4-week run. Currently, "Red Notice", starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds is the number 1 Netflix film with 364 million viewing hours. ## "Don't Look Up" features Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as two astronomers attempting to warn humanity about an approaching comet that will destroy human civilization. Amazon Prime Video Paid Lessor Than Expected Price For Early OTT Release Of 'Pushpa - The Rise'

Hyderabad, January 6 - Amazon Prime Video has had a great year as far as premiering Indian titles in 2021. Besides some of the most critically acclaimed small to mid-budget films, the streamer grabbed the attention for bagging direct-to-streaming rights of Suriya's "Jai Bhim", Vicky Kaushal's "Sardar Uddham", among others. ## Apart from earning direct-to-ott releases, Prime Video also bagged post-theatrical streaming rights of some of the big-budgeted films, including Thalalapthy Vijay's "Master", and the recent Telugu blockbuster "Pushpa - The Rise", starring superstar Allu Arjun. ## It was reported that Prime Video paid a whopping Rs. 45 crores for "Master's" early OTT release. "Master" was the first blockbuster of 2021, but was made available on Prime Video after only 16 days of its theatrical release. However, when it comes to OTT price for "Pushap", the sum is shockingly low than what people had expected, considering its blockbuster run at the box office in all languages. ## As announced by Prime Video, "Pushpa - The Rise" will premiere on its platform after 21 days of theatrical release from January 7 onwards in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. As per reports, the streamer had paid only Rs. 22 crores for its early digital release. ## "Master" didn't perform well in other languages apart from Tamil, and Telugu, while "Pushpa" is having a dream box office run in all versions. Even in Hindi, which is first for Allu Arjun, "Pushpa" has surpassed many outright Bollywood titles and becomes one of the biggest success stories in Hindi with a box office collection of Rs. 70 crores net. So compare to "Master", the OTT price for "Pushpa" isn't as high as it should have been. ## However, one can understand why the amount is low as the deal was done before the release of "Pushpa - The Rise", plus, no one had expected it to do extremely well in Hindi and other languages except Telugu. The makers, however, won't mind since this Sukumar-directed has exceeded their box office expectations as it is nearing Rs. 300 crores worldwide. Mumbai, January 6 - Anushka Sharma is all set to mark her comeback after a maternity hiatus with the biopic of Indian woman cricketer, Jhulan Goswami. The movie was announced two years ago but got delayed due to the covid-19 pandemic. It was recently reported that Anushka has backed out from the project and Tripti Dimri would be replacing her in the film. However, the latest development burst those rumors and confirmed Anushka on board the feature film. ## The movie, titled "Chakda Xpress", is inspired by the life of one of women cricket's all-time greatest players, Jhulan Goswami. The film picks Goswami's inspirational journey as she moves up the ladder despite the hindrances posed by misogynistic politics to fulfill her dream of playing cricket for India.## Speaking about the film, Anushka Sharma said in a statement, "It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. 'Chakda Xpress' is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women's cricket. At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport. Mumbai, January 6 - The makers of Ranveer Singh-fronted sports biopic, "83" have refused the plans of an early digital and satellite release. The movie is currently playing in theaters and in the second week of its box office run.## There were speculations that just like most of the films of 2021, "83" will also be premiered on OTT after 28 days of its theatrical run. Warner Bros. sent its entire slate of 2021 in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, a decision that was heavily criticized by some of the top Hollywood filmmakers. ## Walt Disney Co. too did the same with Marvel Studios. tentpole movie, "Black Widow" starring Scarlett Johansson. Upon its release in July 2021, the superhero movie made $80 million domestically in the opening weekend + $20 million via Disney+ as announced by the streamer. However, after the opening weekend, the movie fell flat at the box office, and Disney also stopped giving its streaming numbers. ## After the low box office performance of the film, exhibitors blamed Disney Co. for its decision of making the film available in theaters and on a streamer simultaneously. They were right as "Black Widow" was one of the most pirated Hollywood titles of 2021, as revealed earlier. This caused heavy damage for the exhibitors who had high hopes for this Marvel movie. ## However, what was earlier revealed wasn't the full picture. According to the latest report by Deadline, "Black Widow" was the most pirated film of 2021. The report suggests that the day-and-date release of the film invited over 20 million pirated downloads, causing Disney to lose an estimated $600 million in streaming revenue. ## While the loss caused by piracy was massive, Scarlett Johansson too had sued Walt Disney Company over a breach in the contract that originally guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release. Hyderabad, January 5 - Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has created a sensation with his maiden Pan-India film "Pushpa - The Rise", which is having a dream run at the box office. In the Hindi dubbed version, the action-thriller film is performing strongly and even surpassed many outright Bollywood films at the box office, becoming a big blockbuster. ## Allu Arjun has now set his aim high and decided to do Pan-India films, knowing the blockbuster success of the film. As expected, the superstar revealed in one of his recent interviews that he received a Bollywood offer, however, the idea didn't excite him which made him decline the offer. He also said that he wants to do only the main lead and has no intention to accept the second lead, even if the film is not outright Telugu. ## It is quite obvious Allu Arjun would want to do only main protagonist roles. He is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in the Telugu film industry, and with "Pushpa - The Rise", he's proved his massive reach all over the country. Mumbai, January 4 - The Hollywood film industry once again came to the rescue as far as the worldwide box office is concerned. The industry of superheroes shouldered the responsibility to keep the show running during the entire covid-19 pandemic, along with China.## After no so the great year of 2020, Hollywood released tentpole titles in the following year and had success with most of them. Quite fittingly, the year 2021 ended with the biggest grosser of the pandemic era, "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which was also the first and only film of 2020 and 2021 to cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office. ## Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" wasn't the only Hollywood title that ruled the worldwide box office. Among the top 5 biggest grosser of 2021 globally, 3 Hollywood films found themselves on the list. Apart from "No Way Home", the other two titles were "James Bond - No Time To Die", and "Fast & Furious 9". ## "No Way Home", which was released on December 15 in some of the overseas markets, has so far grossed $1.37 billion, including $613M domestically (North America), and $759M overseas. James Bond "No Time To Die", which was the 4th biggest film of 2021, had grossed $774 million worldwide. More than domestic, where it grossed $160.7M, "No Time To Die", performed strongly outside North America with $613.2 million.## "Fast & Furious 9" was the fifth biggest global grosser of 2021. It was the first Hollywood film to break $500 million worldwide in 2021. Released in the month of June, "F9" earned $173 million domestically while overseas, it grossed $553.2 million, for a total worldwide gross of $726.2 million. ## Meanwhile, the number 2 and 3 spots of the biggest box office grosser were taken by China's films. The war epic film "The Battle at Lake Changjin" grossed $904 million and was the biggest film until "Spider-Man: No Way Home" overtook it.
