Rajinikanth's Padayappa Re-Release First Weekend Collection
Chennai, December 15 - On the occasion of superstar Rajinikanth's 75th birthday, his iconic blockbuster Padayappa was re-released in cinemas and scored an excellent opening weekend at the worldwide box office. It was Tamil cinema's highest-grossing film the it was originally released in 1999. The action drama had a fantastic start with approximately 4 crore gross worldwide on its opening day. Normally, re-release films, especially South Indian films, don't perform after day 1, but Padayappa proved to be different by scoring on par with its opening day collection. In India, Padayappa has grossed in the range of 9.50-10 crores, including 8.25 crores in Tamil Nadu. These are very good numbers for a re-release title. Padayappa is a landmark Tamil film, directed by K. S. Ravikumar, produced by Arunachala Cine Creations, with music composed by A. R. Rahman.
