Sivakarthikeyan's Madharaasi vs Amaran Box Office: State-Wise Opening Weekend Comparison

Chennai, September 8 - The rising Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's psychological action thriller film Madharaasi opened in the worldwide cinemas this weekend. Despite the low buzz, the film managed to make a mark at the box office with a good collection in India and overseas. Directed by AR Murugadoss, Madharaasi marks his maiden collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan and a reunion with Vidyut Jammwal. The film opened to mostly positive reviews in the home market, particularly in Tamil Nadu, and a mixed reception elsewhere, which was also reflected in its opening weekend business. Madharasi scored a hat-trick of double-digit scores in Tamil Nadu, even though the trend remained on the downward side. After opening to over 12+ crores gross, the film scored 11 crores on Saturday and around 10.50 crores on Sunday to close the opening weekend with approximately 34 crores gross in the state. Overall, Madharaasi grossed approximately 43 crores opening weekend in India, which is the second biggest for Sivakarthikeyan after Amaran, which minted big 95+ crores in its 4-day weekend in 2024. Overseas, the latest blockbuster has scored an estimated 20 crores gross, pushing its worldwide collection to around 63 crores. In comparison, Amaran had scored 140 crores worldwide. While the opening weekend collections of Madharasi are respectable, it becomes crucial for the film to hold well in the coming days to emerge as a box office hit. Despite the positive reviews, the downward trend in the home state could be a concern for the film, and it needs to be seen how it fares during the weekdays. The Bengal Files vs The Kashmir Files Box Office: Vivek Agnihotri's Final Files Chapter Struggles With Just 25% Of TKF's 3-Day Biz

Mumbai, September 8 - National award-winning filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's Files trilogy is heading towards a disappointing conclusion after the final chapter, The Bengal Files, falling short of expectations at the box office despite carrying similarities with The Kashmir Files, which became a mega blockbuster success. Based on the tragic true events surrounding Direct Action Day, also known as the Great Calcutta Killings on August 16, 1946, The Bengal Files has had an underwhelming opening weekend collection at the domestic box office. Despite positive reviews, the movie couldn't fly during the weekend after a decent opening of 1.75 crores net. TBF scored just around one-fourth (25%) of TKF with approximately 6.75 crores net (8 crores gross) in its 3-day opening weekend domestically. In comparison, the previous film in the Files series, The Kashmir Files, had an excellent domestic weekend with around 32 crores gross (27+ crores net). The sharp decline between the two films highlights the massive gap in audience interest towards the subject. While The Kashmir Files benefitted from extraordinary word-of-mouth, along with the awareness of the historical events, and became a cultural phenomenon, The Bengal Files is struggling to gain momentum, as trade believes that not many people are aware of the events shown in the film. One of the other major reasons for TBF's underwhelming performance is that the hasn't been allowed to release in its best-suited market, West Bengal, under political pressure from the ruling state party. The coming weekdays will be crucial to determine whether the film can pick up pace or settle for a modest run compared to its blockbuster predecessor. Stay tuned...

Kamal Haasan Confirms Mega-Collab With Rajinikanth in Lokesh Kanagaraj Film

Chennai, September 7 - The stars have officially aligned for what can be called one of the biggest collaborations in Indian cinema as legendary Kamal Haasan has confirmed that he will be reuniting with superstar Rajinikanth for a multistarrer, likely to be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It was recently reported that Lokesh has narrated a script to both the Indian cinema legends, and now, the official confirmation straight from the horse's mouth has already sent waves of excitement across the film industry and among fans who have been waiting for decades to see the two legends share the screen again. Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, who started their careers together in the 1970s, last acted in full-fledged roles opposite each other over four decades ago. While both went on to carve their own iconic paths in Indian cinema, their on-screen reunion has always remained a dream for cinephiles. The official confirmation was made during the SIIMA award event, when the host asked Kamal Haasan about the rumours of his reunion with Rajinikanth. The Vikram star said that he and Rajinikanth were supposed to collaborate long back, but they are indeed coming together. #KamalHaasan confirms collaboration with #Rajinikanth in #LokeshKanagaraj film🥵:"Rajini & myself are supposed to collaborate long back🫰. It might be surprise business wise😀. We can't say if it's Tharamana Sambavam🥶. If audience like, we are happy♥️" pic.twitter.com/3IxaxGRXpJ— AmuthaBharathi (@CinemaWithAB) September 7, 2025 "Rajini and I were supposed to collaborate long back. It might be a surprise, business-wise. We can’t say if it’s Tharamana Sambavam. If the audience likes, we are happy," Haasan said, adding, "For me, it is another chance. You may think we will compete with one another, but I see it as a chance to work with him. Other than that, there is nothing more." Even though Kamal Haasan didn't say anything about who will direct the film, the news of Lokesh is already out in the media. It will also mark his reunion with both the legendary stars, after Vikram with KH and recently released Coolie with Thalaivaar. Lokesh Kanagaraj has become one of the most sought-after filmmakers of this generation, known for his stylish narratives and the much-talked-about Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Though details about the film are being kept under wraps, the combination of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Lokesh has already made this project one of the most anticipated films of all time. Non-Theatrical Boost: Tiger Shroff's Baaghi 4 Becomes Profitable Despite Mixed Box Office Start

Mumbai, September 7 – Tiger Shroff returned to the big screen with the latest action entertainer Baaghi 4, the fourth instalment in the decade-long franchise. Directed by A Harsha, the film opened to mixed reviews at the box office. The initial collections are on the expected line, given the reviews, but not up to the level of the franchise's standards. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Baaghi 4 is reportedly made on a budget of 80 crores, including production and marketing expenses. Despite the mixed collection, the film has already turned out to be a safe venture for its makers, thanks to solid non-theatrical deals across digital, satellite, and music rights. According to the report by Pinkvilla, the producers struck lucrative off-screen deals, fetching a total of 92 crore from non-theatrical revenue. This has resulted in a table profit of 12 crore, ensuring that the film's cost was recovered before theatrical revenue even came into play. It is said that the streaming rights of the A-rated action thriller were acquired by Prime Video for a big 50 crore, while Zee Cinema bagged the satellite (television) rights for 25 crore. Additionally, T-Series secured the music rights for 17 crore. Together, these strong deals helped Baaghi 4 become profitable on paper, despite the challenges at the ticket windows. At the box office, the Tiger Shroff-starrer opened decently with an estimated 12 crore net on day, but collections dipped on day 2, bringing in about 9.25 crore, for a two-day total of nearly 21.25 crore net, as the opening weekend is headed for around 30 crores net. The film's theatrical run will determine its overall standing with audiences, but for producers, the project is already in the green. The brand value of the Baaghi franchise has played a key role in helping the makers to fetch solid non-theatrical deals for the latest instalment. The franchise's mass appeal, blended with action, romance, and emotions, has struck a chord with the audience in all age groups. Baaghi 4, however, has taken a different path as it nullifies the family audience due to its adult tone, but it still has a loyal audience, which has kept it relevant despite the signs of franchise fatigue. Superstar Salman Khan Hilariously Trolls The U.S. President Donald Trump On Bigg Boss 19 Weekend Ka Vaar

Mumbai, September 7 - The US President Donald Trump's peace prize rant has made its way to the Indian television reality show Bigg Boss, hosted by superstar Salman Khan. During the Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 19 on September 6, 2025, blockbuster host Salman Khan gave a sharp reprimand to contestant Farrhana Bhatt, who refers to herself as a "peace activist", for instigating unnecessary conflicts inside the house. Salman delivered a strong critique of Farhana, and while doing that, he seemingly hilariously trolled Trump, who has been desperately seeking the Nobel Peace Prize for the works he has never done. The superstar said, "A peace activist is supposed to resolve conflicts and bring people together. But what's happening? around the world, those who create the most trouble are the ones demanding peace prizes." Megastar #SalmanKhan trolling Donald Trump 😂😭 #BiggBoss19"Is Dunia me jo sabse jyada trouble faila rahe h, unhe hi peace prize chahiye" pic.twitter.com/Z4SfUNm1Lb— MASS (@Freak4Salman) September 7, 2025 Netizens quickly interpreted Salman's remark as a cleverly veiled jab at U.S. President Donald Trump, who has been in the news for pushing for consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize, despite widespread criticism of his actions on the global stage. Trump's bid for the Nobel, including asking various nations to nominate him and support from his national security adviser, has been met with significant backlash and scepticism. The reaction online was immediate and enthusiastic, as social media users lauded Salman's sense of humour and drew a clear line between his words and Trump's real-life ambitions. One X user coined it, "Salman Sir ne ek bahut achi baat boli... Pehli Farhana aur dusra Donald Trump," applauding how Salman targeted both the contestant and "peace preacher Trump" with a single shot. Another said, "Lmao, Salman was bashing Farhana but ended up bashing Donald Trump indirectly... collateral damage at its finest." Meanwhile, Salman Khan will next be seen in the war action drama, The Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia. Inspired by the 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley, the movie focuses on the intense hand-to-hand combat that occurred without firearms. The film began shooting in Ladakh in August and is a tribute to the bravery of Indian soldiers. The makers are eyeing to release the film in the first half of 2026. Stay tuned...

Lokah Box Office: Kalyani Priyadarshan's Superhero Blockbuster Revives Mollywood's 300 Crore Dream

Kochi, September 6 - The Malayalam film industry, known for its storytelling brilliance but traditionally limited market reach, has often aspired to match the massive box office benchmarks set by Bollywood, Tollywood, and Kollywood. Over the last couple of years, the industry has tried to unlock its full potential by delivering multiple 200 crores grossers, but something is still left there to achieve. While Bollywood, Tollywood, and Kollywood are frequently breaching the milestone of 300 crores worldwide gross, Malayalam cinema is yet to get there, despite coming close to it on a few occasions. Mohanlal's Empuraan (267 crores) was the closest to achieving this landmark box office figure, but ultimately fell short due to mixed word of mouth despite record-shattering openings. There has been a question that which upcoming movie could potentially unlock the coveted box office milestone. While not yet achieved, with Kalyani Priyadarshan-fronted superhero film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, the industry seems to have found its strongest contender yet. The film has struck a chord with audiences thanks to its growing pan-India appeal, high production values, and Kalyani's career-defining performance. What sets Lokah apart is not just its scale but the overwhelmingly positive reception it has received from both critics and general moviegoers. Unlike Empuraan, which fizzled out after the initial robust collection, Lokah is showing strong legs at the box office, hinting at a healthy long run ahead. In just 10 days (including the second Saturday), Lokah Chapter 1 has already grossed nearly 170 crores worldwide, and is expected to be around 200 crores by the end of the second weekend. The film is currently facing capacity issues, with shows running houseful in multiple territories amid intense competition from other releases. While the capacity issue is stopping the film from performing to its full potential, it is expected to fuel stronger weekday holds as audiences continue to flock to theatres. The film's prospects look brighter outside the home state, Kerala, where it is performing excellently. The rest of the Indian market, especially Telugu states, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, are coming handy for the movie, while overseas is performing like a beast. This expanding reach is crucial for Lokah to stand a real chance of getting to the 300 crores club, as Mollywood has traditionally been reliant on its home state, Kerala, along with the Gulf. The fact that Lokah is performing strongly across languages and regions gives it a unique edge, positioning it as Mollywood’s best shot yet at rewriting box office history. While the journey to the 300 crore landmark is still a long one, the trajectory is promising. If Lokah sustains its momentum through word of mouth and secures additional screen space in the coming weeks, it could very well become the first Malayalam film to join the elite 300 crore club. The Malayalam industry has been on a rise in the post-pandemic era, and the trade believes that if not Lokah, there will come a movie very soon which will get to the 300 crores milestone. But for now, the industry hopes that India's first female superhero blockbuster turns that dream into a reality.

The Bengal Files Vs The Kashmir Files Box Office Day 1: Vivek Agnihotri's Final Files Chapter Fails To Match TKF's Opening

Mumbai, September 6 – National award-winning filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's much-discussed final instalment in the Files trilogy, The Bengal Files, has taken a moderate start at the Indian box office, badly affected by the intense competition with multiple films. On its opening day, The Bengal Files scored an estimated 1.75 crores net, which is a decent figure but falls short when compared to the good start of its predecessor, The Kashmir Files. Back in 2022, TKF had opened with 3.55 crores net, nearly double the start of Agnihotri's latest offering. The film, which marks the concluding chapter of Agnihotri's socio-political saga, based on dark truths of Indian history, carries significant expectations given the historic run of The Kashmir Files. While the opening is comparatively lower, the real test lies in word-of-mouth and how the collections trend over the weekend. Based on the events surrounding Direct Action Day on 16 August 1946, TBF is showing marginal growth on the second day. If the film manages to sustain well, it could still carve a strong run ahead, though matching The Kashmir Files’ record-breaking momentum seems like a challenging task. Stay tuned...

Spirit Runtime Update: Prabhas' Actioner Will Be Shorter Than Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Arjun Reddy and Animal

Hyderabad, September 6 – Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who is known for his intense, emotionally charged dramas like blockbusters Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, and Animal, has revealed the potential theatrical runtime of his highly-awaited film Spirit starring pan-India superstar Prabhas. In a recent interaction, Vanga hinted that Spirit could be his shortest film to date in terms of runtime. During a talk show called Jayammu Nischayammu Raa on Zee5, SRV was asked about what the theatrical runtime of Spirit would be by host Jagapathi Babu. The blockbuster director, who is teaming up with Prabhas for the first time, revealed that he would make sure that the runtime remains below 3 hours. If this happens, it will probably be his shortest film, even shorter than Shahid Kapoor-fronted Kabir Singh. This is a surprising revelation considering the director's past works, which are known for their extended screen time, layered storytelling, and detailed character arcs. Kabir Singh (2019) was 172 minutes (2 hours and 52 minutes) long, while Vanga's other two movies, Arjun Reddy and Animal, clocked over 3 hours of runtime. Apart from runtime, SRV also revealed that for Spirit, 70% of the music is already done, as he feels that it is easier to shoot a film when the BGM is playing in the background, as we can easily tell when to cut. "During Kabir Singh, I realised that if the RR is done before the shoot begins, then it makes shooting much easier. I didn’t have those privileges during Arjun Reddy, but for Animal, 80% of the RR was done before the shoot itself," he said. The film marks Vanga's first collaboration with Prabhas, who will be seen playing a powerful cop in this high-voltage action drama. Given Prabhas' massive fan base and Vanga's reputation for hard-hitting, controversial storytelling, expectations are sky-high for Spirit, which is being mounted on a massive scale. Produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Vanga's Bhadrakali Pictures, Spirit is one of the most anticipated Indian films, promising a blend of action, emotion, and Vanga's signature intensity. With the director now hinting at a sharper runtime, fans are curious to see how this change in storytelling style translates on the big screen. The film, which has Tripti Dimri as the female lead as she reunites with Vanga after Animal, is currently in the pre-production stage and is expected to go on floors soon. It is expected to be released by late 2026 in multiple Indian and international languages. Stay tuned...

Mumbai, September 6 – The wait for one of Bollywood's most beloved comedy franchises just got more exciting as the shoot of Dhamaal 4, directed by Indra Kumar, has officially wrapped up, and the makers have reconfirmed its release date for Eid 2026. Fronted by Ajay Devgn, the fourth instalment brings back the iconic trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, and Jaaved Jaaferi, who have been synonymous with the franchise's success. The upcoming film also marks the return of Sanjay Mishra and Esha Gupta from the last film, while also featuring Upendra Limaye, Anjali Anand, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Ravi Kishan. Produced by T-Series, Maruti International, Ajay Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, one of the most star-studded comedies in recent years promises to be a laughter-filled extravaganza that continues the legacy of Indra Kumar's comedy blockbusters. Aaj ki taaza khabar, brought to you by the gang, jo ab jald hi lootne aa rahe hain aapka dil…aur dimaag! 😉#Dhamaal4 arrives in cinemas on Eid 2026💥 @Riteishd @ArshadWarsi @jaavedjaaferi @imsanjaimishra #UpendraLimaye #AnjaliAnand @iamsanjeeda @ravikishann #EshaGupta… pic.twitter.com/VvBXSF7nY5— Ajay Devgn (@ajaydevgn) September 6, 2025 With its shooting wrapped and a powerhouse cast on board, fans can expect a perfect festive entertainer as the film gears up to hit theatres during Eid 2026. The Dhamaal franchise has been a fan-favourite since its inception, and with Ajay Devgn leading the madness this time, expectations are sky-high for another box office riot. Perfect But Highly Risky Release Date While Eid is a lucrative festive weekend for the box office, it is going to be a highly risky affair for the 2026 release. With Dhamaal 4 sticking to the original plan, the movie will have to face a mighty clash with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal's Love & War, along with Yash's Toxic, which are slated for a March 19 debut. It needs to be seen if all three films, arrive on Eid 2026, which is unlikely.
