Rajinikanth's Coolie Vs Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Opening Week Domestic and Worldwide Box Office Comparison

Mumbai, August 22 - The highly-anticipated box office clash between superstar Rajinikanth's gangster action drama Coolie and Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's spy action thriller War 2 has turned into a dull affair where both films failed to live up to the pre-release hype. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie had everything to run riot at the box office, be it star power, a blockbuster director, a music sensation, and a reputed production house, but all went in vain as the story couldn't connect with the audience, which didn't turn up as expected post the weekend. Coolie had a record-breaking start, followed by a record opening weekend for Tamil cinema. However, once the weekend was over, the poor critics' reviews and mixed audience reception came to spoil the party as the film couldn't hold on to the expected lines during the weekdays. Have A Look At The First Week Box Office Comparison of Coolie and War 2 (Estimated)Region (State)War 2 1st Week GBOCCoolie 1st Week GBOCTamil Nadu₹5.55 Cr₹115.40 CrKarnataka₹16.80 Cr₹38.60 CrAP/TG₹62.40 Cr₹57.80 CrKerala₹1.80 Cr₹23.10 CrRest of India₹157.20 Cr₹37.10 CrOverseas₹70.15 Cr₹167.00 CrTotal₹314.00 Cr₹439.00 Cr The situation of Yash Raj Films' War 2 is even worse. Just like Coolie, the Bollywood tentpole also had everything to make a splash at the box office, but couldn't start well and later, the mixed reception didn't allow it to gather speed despite a big jump on Independence Day. Both Coolie and War 2 were projected to score over 2000 crores at the worldwide box office, but now, they are heading for a combined total of under 1000 crores, which is hugely disappointing. The failure of both movies will force the filmmakers to rethink how they need to approach pan pan-India market without taking much risk. Stay tuned...

Double Trouble: Pradeep Ranganathan's LIK and Dude Set for a Diwali 2025 Box Office Clash

Chennai, August 22 - Young Tamil filmmaker-turned-actor Pradeep Ranganathan, who has impressed one and all with his choice of films so far, is heading for an unusual situation in his career, where he will be clashing with himself at the box office this Diwali. ## The rising star, who earned immense popularity with Love Today and Dragon, will now see two of his upcoming films, Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) and Dude, releasing on the same festive weekend of Diwali 2025. There were reports that Dude would be postponed to next year, but the makers stuck to the Diwali release. ## The announcement has taken fans by surprise, as it is rare for an actor to have two films competing directly against each other. While LIK, directed by Vignesh Shivan, is a science fiction romantic comedy entertainer in Pradeep's signature quirky style, Dude reportedly explores a fresher, mass-oriented space, promising something completely different for audiences. ## The Diwali holiday frame is such a massive weekend for any film in India; hence, releasing two films of an actor is definitely going to be a tricky situation, especially if both films receive favourable audience reception. With Pradeep’s growing fan base and strong youth connect, the festive season could still prove beneficial, as audiences might flock to theatres for both releases, but if the makers still stick to the release, there will be consequences. ## Whatever the outcome, Diwali 2025 is set to be a landmark moment for Pradeep Ranganathan's career, as he attempts to pull off what very few actors have dared – facing himself at the box office. After from his, there are other films which will hit the big screen during the same weekend. ## Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan-Jr. NTR's War 2 Bags Big Non-Theatrical Deals Worth 225 Crore

Mumbai, August 22 - Yash Raj Films' much-hyped spy action thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has been underwhelming at the box office so far, with a disappointing first-week collection of around 315 crores worldwide. Ideally, the movie should have done this business or probably more in the opening weekend itself, but poor reviews and mixed word of mouth proved fatal. With no sign of rebound, Ayan Mukerji's directorial is heading towards emerging as a loss venture for YRF. As per trade estimates, the film will end up with around 50 crores in losses for the studio. Given the huge production costs and how the film has performed at the box office, the losses could have been higher, but the makers recovered most of it from the non-theatrical rights. According to reports, War 2's digital rights have been sold for 150 crores, while satellite rights brought 50 crores, and music rights brought 25 crores in revenue for YRF. The total non-theatrical revenue of around 225 crores has helped the studio to bring down the losses. The movie was reportedly made on a budget of over 400 crores, as the costliest film in the YRF Spy Universe. This includes the salaries of Jr. NTR (60 crores), Hrithik Roshan (35 crores), Ayan Mukerji (25 crores), and Kiara Advani (10 crores). Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the 6th film in the Spy Universe, and the sequel to 2019's blockbuster War. It stars Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in his Bollywood debut, alongside Hrithik Roshan, who reprises his role from the first film, Kiara Advani and Anil Kapoor. ## Stay tuned...

Thalapathy Vijay's Leo Claims First-Week Box Office Crown, Beating Rajinikanth's Coolie

Chennai, August 21 - The Tamil box office once again has its say in the battle between two superstars — Rajinikanth and Thalapathy Vijay. While both Coolie and Leo opened to massive numbers, the difference in their trajectory after the opening weekend has sparked an interesting comparison. ## Rajinikanth's Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, stormed the global box office with a big 385 crore gross in its 4-day extended opening weekend. However, the film's momentum slowed in the following weekdays, with its 8-day first-week total reaching around 440 crore worldwide, adding just around 55 crores from Monday to Thursday. ## On the other hand, Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, also directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, had the opening weekend of 356.50 crores, but unlike Coolie, the movie remained solid in the post-weekend first week, adding another 120 crores gross worldwide from Monday to Thursday, for around 477 crores gross first week collection. ## The word of mouth for both films was mixed, with slightly better for Leo, but still, the Thalapathy Vijay-starrer scored more than 2x of Coolie from Monday to Thursday, despite losing the opening weekend race to win the week. Leo, which was behind Coolie by around 30 crores gross after the opening weekend, leads by around 27 crores after the first week. ## The comparison highlights how post-weekend word-of-mouth and audience reception can define a film's box office journey. It also shows which of Rajinikanth and Vijay has a greater influence over the audience, given their similar reception. But one has to admire the longevity of superstar Rajinikanth, who, at the age of 75, is ruling the box office like any other superstar at their peak. ## Stay tuned...

IMAX CEO Bets High Hopes On Ranbir Kapoor, Yash's Ramayana, Calls It a Potential Global Success

Mumbai, August 21 - The Indian cinema has been taking giant steps in reaching the global audience over the last few years. There have been many films recently which worked wonders at the box office outside India, proving the growing impact of Indian films beyond national boundaries. ## Going ahead, there are plenty of films to look forward to, and one of them is producer Namit Malhotra's epic Ramayana. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Raavan, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ramayana is touted to be a ground-breaking Indian film, which has the potential to work wonders across the globe, according to Malhotra. ## Recently, the makers unveiled a 3-minute-long introduction teaser of Ramayana, which primarily focused on the quality of VFX, the vision of the director, which is unbelievably awesome. Filmed specially for large IMAX screens, the epic is being seen by the IMAX CEO as a wonder in the making. ## According to The LA Times, IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond has expressed strong optimism about the upcoming magnum opus Ramayana, calling it a project with the potential to break boundaries of Indian cinema and captivate international audiences. "Judging from what we've seen, this has all the elements to be a global success," Gelfond said.## His remarks reflect IMAX's growing interest in large-scale Indian productions as Hollywood grapples with fewer tentpole releases, and the appetite for epic storytelling expands worldwide. Over the last few years, IMAX has showcased just a handful of Indian films, but the upcoming Ramayana is its most prestigious Indian project yet. ## Meanwhile, Namit Malhotra, who has produced the film under Prime Focus Studio in association with Yash's Monster Mind Creations, wants to eliminate any language barriers for Ramayana. Coolie vs Leo Box Office: Rajinikanth Rules the First Weekend, Thalapathy Vijay Dominates the First Week

Chennai, August 21 - In the contrasting turn of events, Thalapathy Vijay's Leo is set to remain the biggest opening week grosser of Tamil cinema, a title which was threatened to be taken by superstar Rajinikanth's latest blockbuster Coolie. Both films registered historic collections, but their trajectories highlight the difference in audience pull during the weekend and week numbers. ## In the opening weekend, Rajinikanth's Coolie took a clear lead by emerging as the biggest Tamil weekend grosser, with approximately 385 crore, edging past Leo's 356.50 crore opening weekend. The Superstar's mass appeal and festive holiday advantage ensured a record-breaking start despite mixed reviews. ## However, the equation shifted over the first full week, where things have taken a drastic turn. After the record opening weekend, Coolie fell sharply during the weekdays, as its first 7 days collection is around 430 crores gross worldwide. On the other hand, Leo showcased better consistency with solid holds, collecting approximately 464 crore worldwide in the same span. ## ## The strong weekday hold allowed Vijay's film to claim the biggest Tamil first-week grosser of all time. Even with the extended 8-day opening week run, Leo maintained its edge with 476 crore, outpacing Coolie, which is expected to be around 440 crores 8-day haul worldwide. ## Trade experts believe this pattern reinforces a long-observed trend: Rajinikanth films ignite explosive openings, while Vijay’s recent outings have demonstrated stronger weekday legs. Ultimately, both Coolie and Leo have cemented their place in box office history, but the battle will be remembered as a weekend win for Rajinikanth and a week-long triumph for Thalapathy Vijay. ## Note: Rajinikanth's 2.0's numbers are not considered in this article, as there were a lot of discrepancies regarding the film's South Indian language collection. ## Stay tuned...

Megastar Chiranjeevi's Much-Awaited Vishwambhara Postponed To Next Year; New Release Date Revealed

Hyderabad, August 21 - Megastar Chiranjeevi's much-awaited fantasy action drama Vishwambhara with Bimbisara director Mallidi Vassishta, has officially been postponed yet again amid endless rumours, pushing its release from the summer of 2025 to the next year. The film, which has already generated massive buzz among fans, was initially slated for a grand January 2025 release before being moved to mid-2025. On August 21, the makers shared a video featuring Chiranjeevi, in which the megastar addressed fans' concerns regarding the continuous delay in the film's release. "The second half of Vishwambhara is driven entirely by VFX and graphics. The delay is a conscious choice to ensure the highest quality. This is a film being made with passion, without cutting corners," said Chiranjeevi. It was then revealed that Vishwambhara will now hit the big screen in the summer of 2026. While the exact date was not revealed, reliable reports say it will hit the screens in April.
