Kannada Film Industry Takes Fresh Breath After Karnataka Government Lifts Weekend Curfew

Bangalore, January 24 - The Kannada film industry is heaving a sigh of relief after the Karnataka government decides to lift the weekend curfew, imposed two weeks ago. This news comes at a time when the film industry is looking for revival after a major setback caused by the second covid-19 wave. ## Earlier, just when the Kannada film industry was set for the blockbuster opening of the year, the 3rd covid wave forced the government to announce fresh restrictions in the state. However, with the 3rd wave not resulting in a surge in hospitalization and the recovery rate also being high, the government withdrew its decision of weekend curfew. ## Most of the theatres across the state, which had been closed for two weeks because of the weekend curfew, are all set to reopen and welcome audiences. Though the state government is permitting only 50 percent occupancy at present, multiple reports have suggested that 100 percent occupancy will be allowed by the next weekend. ## Meanwhile, the filmmakers have started rescheduling the release dates of their movies, which were supposed to release two weeks ago. Among the first Kannada films to release in the state after the reopening of cinemas is "DNA", which is slated to hit theaters this week, followed by "Obhattane Dikku", starring Yogesh on January 28.## However, the fans are waiting for the release of Rakshith Shetty's "777 Charlie", Darling Krishna, and Milana's "Love Mocktail 2", Kichcha Sudeepa's Pan-India film "Vikrant Rona", among other Kannada movies. "777 Charlie" was supposed to release last year. The makers will now announce the new release date in the next few days.## Kichcha Sudeepa's big-budget 3D adventure film "Vikrant Rona" is slated for February 24 release, and it looks like the movie will go ahead with its planned release. Interestingly, makers had received a whopping Rs. 100 crores offer from the leading OTT giant for its direct OTT release but rejected it stating that it is made for the big screen experience. ## Meanwhile, the team helming the much-anticipated "Bairagee", starring Shivarajkumar and Dhananjay, has announced the completion of the shooting. The team is all set to launch the teaser soon. Shivarajkumar's last film "Bhajarangi 2" was released on October 29 last year. It opened well at the box before got a major jolt due to the death of Shiva Rajkumar's brother Puneeth.## Last year, the Kannada films were able to catch the attention of movie lovers before and after the second covid-19 wave. Bangalore, January 8 - The makers of Kichacha Sudeepa's big-budget action-adventure film "Vikrant Rona" have reinstated their commitment to the film's theatrical release, despite the lucrative OTT offers. Directed by Anup Bhandari, "Vikrant Rona" is currently slated for February 24, 2022, worldwide in multiple languages. ## Since the movie has been delayed a few times, there were reports that the makers might take the OTT route for the film. It has been reported that one of the leading digital platforms offered Rs. 100 crores for direct-to-OTT release. Producer Jack Manjunath too confirmed that they are getting many big offers but they are committed to the theatrical release of the film. ## "It is true that we have been receiving some really good offers for direct online releases as it is a film that created a buzz nationally. But the film has seen nearly three years of hard work to ensure it is a world-class 3D release. Hence, while the prices being offered are tempting, we are waiting for a proper theatrical release to ensure everyone sees our vision the way we intended them to", he said according to ETimes. ## Meanwhile, the makers haven't taken a call on pushing the release date of "Vikrant Rona" yet as the country is going through the third covid-19 wave. Many states have imposed restrictions on theaters, including Karnataka, where theater capacity has been reduced to 50% and night curfews have also been introduced. ## However, they did have to change their plans with regard to promotions. "We had a teaser that was planned for a January-11 release where it would have been playing along with all the big festive releases across different languages. But, with most of them postponing their releases, we were forced to change that plan and have deferred our teaser launch for now".## "Vikrant Rona" is a 3D film that will be released in Kannada along with dubbed versions of Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and other languages. The cast of the film also includes Nirup Bhandari, Neeta Ashok, and Vasuki Vaibhav, among others. Bengaluru, November 29 - Actor Arjun Sarja has been cleared of sexual misconduct charges leveled against him by south Indian actress Sruthi Hariharan when she came out with her '#MeToo' story. The Karnataka police have submitted a 'B-Report to the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court in this regard, according to the new India express.## Actress Sruthi Hariharan has made a four-page statement against Arjun Sarja on her social media as part of "Me Too campaign" and revealed how she was affected by the incident voicing her support for the #MeToo Movement. The case was taken up by the Cubbon Park police in Bengaluru for investigation three years ago.## Sruthi alleged that before a shot, the actor, on the pretext of a rehearsal, hugged her and ran his hands up and down her back without her consent during the shoot of the movie 'Vismaya'. "I was aghast. I am all for depicting realism in cinema, but this felt absolutely wrong. His intent seemed anything but professional. I hated that he did it and was angry that I didn't know what to say then", Sruti wrote.## Police also said that the victim Sruthi Hariharan has also received official communication about it. Now, the government of Karnataka has decided to honour the late actor with the Karnataka Ratna award posthumously. ## The Karnataka Ratna is the state's highest civilian award. Puneeth Rajkumar was the son of veteran actor Rajkumar. He was cremated with state honors last month. Bangalore, November 2 - It has been three days since Kannada superstar, Puneeth Rajkumar's death due to the sudden cardiac arrest and he left for heavenly abode at 46. After the tragic death of a talented actor, his eyes were donated, and now, his eyes have given a new lease of life to four young people. ## Rajkumar's eyes were successfully planted to four people, including 3 males and 1 female. However, in order to abide by the rules and protect the privacy of the patients, much details on them weren't disclosed by the hospital, except that all four are between the age of 20 and 30. ## Each eye of the late actor was used to treat two patients. The superior and deeper layers of the cornea were separated. The superior layer was transplanted to two patients who had the superficial corneal disease, and only the deeper layer was transplanted to patients with endothelial or deep corneal layer disease. This, according to the hospital, is quite a rare occurrence.## "All four patients are in between 20 and 30 years of age. They were on the waiting list for over 6 months now. Due to Covid-19, eye donations had stopped completely. Earlier, we used to do at least 200 transplant surgeries per month in our hospital. Things are getting better for the past 2-3 months. But the waiting list is long. So we made the best use of available eyes and instead of two, we were able to do the successful transplant in 4 patients," said Dr. Bhujang Shetty, Chairman, Narayana Nethralaya to News18.## Puneeth Rajkumar was active in many humanitarian works. He was bearing the cost of over 1800 students and was running 26 Orphanages, and 16 Old age homes. He had also provided medical help to many people over the years. Bangalore, October 29 - In shocking turns of events, Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar passed away on Friday at the age of 46. The actor suffered a massive heart attack in the morning was admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru.## Puneeth Rajkumar developed chest pain in the morning and visited his family doctor for an ECG. Following the ECG, he was asked to rush to the hospital. Box Office: Kichcha Sudeepa's Kotigobba 3 & Duniya Vijay Starrer Salaga Bring Joy To Kannada Film Industry

Bangalore, October 23 - First time since Darshan's "Roberrt" and Puneeth Rajkumar-led "Yuvarathnaa", the Kannada Film Industry is having a sigh of relief. It has been a hard time for the South Indian film industry because of the covid-19 pandemic, but now, it is looking for revival, all thanks to the much-needed boost from the recently released Kotigobba 3 and Salaga. ## The long-awaited Kichcha Sudeepa starrer "Kotigobba 3" might have faced financial issues before its release on October 15, it has brought joy to the industry with a solid box office response. With strong Rs. 27 crores India gross at the box office in the first 8 days, the Shiva Karthik-directed has become one of the top grossers after the second covid-19 wave India. ## On the other hand, Duniya Vijay-fronted and directed "Salaga", which opened a day earlier on October 14, is doing well at the Karnataka box office. So far, the crime thriller has grossed approx Rs. 17.50 crores in the first 9-days and have been declared hit at the box office. It also stars Dhananjay, Nagabhushan, and Sanjana Anand in key roles. ## Two big Kannada films running to packed houses across Karnataka are good news for theatre owners, many of whom were on the verge of closing down because of the pandemic and no big-ticket fresh releases. "Both films enjoying full occupancy at 90 percent of all centers for five days is a big development", says K V Chandrashekar, chairman of Kannada Exhibitors Association.## In the pandemic-hit year, Darshan starrer actioner "Roberrt" remains the highest-grossing Kannada film. It was released on 11 March and grossed over Rs. 69 crores worldwide and was declared super hit at the box office. Dhruva Sarja, and Rashmika Mandanna's "Pogaru" remain the second-highest Kannada film of 2021 with Rs. 45.10 crores worldwide while Puneeth Rajkumar and Sayyeshaa Saigal's "Yuvarathnaa" is at number 3 with Rs. 38.70 crores worldwide gross in 15 days. It was made available on Amazon Prime Video only after 9 days of theatrical release. ## Among the upcoming Kannada films, the industry has high hopes for Dr. Shivarajkumar's "Bhajarangi 2", which opens on October 29. The fantasy action film got a homogenous response for the trailer which promises a visual extravaganza film to watch on the big screen. Kichcha Sudeepa's much-awaited "Vikrant Rona" will also be releasing this year and it is another film that is pilled on heavy VFX and is one of the costliest Kannada films. ## Stay tuned...
