Hyderabad, October 10 - Actor-producer Vishnu Manchu has been voted as the next president of the Movie Artists Association (MAA), the apex body of the Telugu film industry. He was up against Prakash Raj and defeated him by a huge margin of over 400 votes. ## There was a huge excitement for MAA elections this year like never before as it is a General Elections for state and Central governments. Telugu news channels have noted that Vishnu's father Mohan Babu played a huge role in Vishnu's victory. There was intense campaigning by Vishnu's panel and Prakash Raj's panel over the last few weeks which made the MAA elections, which are usually a low-key affair, interesting. ## While Vishnu Manchu takes the top position for the next two years, reportedly Prakash Raj's panel won more positions than Manchu's panel. Hyderabad, October 10 - Power Star Pawan Kalyan, Megastar Chiranjeevi as well as other leading Tollywood actors including Nagarjuna, Balakrishna, Ram Charan, among others cast their votes on Sunday (October 10) to elect new office-bearers of the Movie Artists Association (MAA), the apex body of the Telugu film industry. ## MAA members were voting to elect a 26-member executive comprising the president, general secretary, two joint secretaries, treasurer, and 18 committee members. Actor-producer Vishnu Manchu and actor Prakash Raj are the two contenders battling for the post of MAA president. ## Polling, which began at 8 AM at the Jubilee Hills Public School, was progressing smoothly. It was to end at 2 PM but was extended by an hour by the election officer, Krishna Mohan. There are a total of 925 MAA members and out of them, 883 members are eligible to cast their votes. Of them, 665 had cast their ballots. The counting is likely to continue till 8 PM, when the results are slated to be declared.## Retired employees of the Telangana Cooperative Society made elaborate arrangements for the polling in adherence with Covid-19 protocols. As many as 50 policemen and women were deployed as part of the security measures. The two parties have had a friendly camaraderie on the polling day as the two contenders battling for the post of MAA president shook hands and embraced each other to declare that they are all one. ## Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan was one of the first to cast his votes. Talking to reporters, the Jana Sena president declined to name the panel he votes for. He said MAA elections would have no bearing on the friendship between his brother Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu. Pawan said the film industry will not split due to MAA polls.## Megastar and MAA founding president Chiranjeevi said he had cast his vote as per his conscience. He said that whenever the MAA elections were held, the same acrimony was witnessed and called for putting an end to it. Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi's brother Naga Babu told reporters that he cast his vote for the Prakash Raj panel. ## Genelia D'Souza, who had been staying away from Telugu films following her marriage to Bollywood actor Ritesh Deshmukh, also came to Hyderabad to cast her vote. The two big-budgeted most-awaited Telugu movies are set to arrive in theaters on December 17. While "Acharya" will release only in Telugu, Allu Arjun's "Pushpa" will have a Pan-India release in five languages. ## "Pushpa - Part 1" was earlier supposed to release on Christmas 2021 but the makers recently confirmed that it will be arriving a week before, on December 17. The makers of "Acharya", however, has yet to announce the release date officially, but it is reportedly locked for December 17 release in theaters worldwide. ## Under the current circumstances, the big box office clashes are bound to happen as there is hardly any release window left to get a solo release. It is not only Acharya vs Pushpa at the box office as Marvel Studios' superhero film "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is also scheduled to release in cinemas in India on December 17 in multiple languages. ## Acharya, directed by Koratala Siva, is an action drama film. It also stars Ram Charan, Kajal Aggarwal, and Pooja Hegde in prominent roles along with Sonu Sood, Jisshu Sengupta, Posani Krishna Murali, Tanikella Bharani, among others. Hyderabad, September 28 - During the 18-months of the covid-19 pandemic era, the Telugu film industry has kept show biz running in India while others are struggling to cope up with the devastating once in a century pandemic.## Even in these tough times, the Telugu film industry has given six blockbuster movies, all came in 2021. Keeping those expectations high, another Telugu movie, "Love Story" is well on track to become a BIG hit, not only in India but also in overseas markets. ## Directed by National award-winning filmmaker, Sekhar Kammula, "Love Story" has already become one of the top grosser after the deadly second wave in India. It also took the biggest opening of Rs. 9.05 crores in India after the 2nd wave while its opening weekend (Fri-Sun) collection stands at an outstanding Rs. 24.8 crores net. ## Meanwhile, the Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi starrer is surprisingly turning out to be a big adventure at the USA box office. The film had the best premiere night for an Indian film during the pandemic with $314K (Rs. 2.32 crore) on Thursday premiere. ## By the end of its opening weekend in the USA, the movie has crossed $1 million ($1.02 or 7.54 Cr) which includes $292K on Friday, $287K on Saturday, and $128K on Sunday apart from Thursday premiere.
