Box Office: Dhanush's Vaathi/Sir Has An Excellent Opening Weekend Worldwide

Chennai, February 20 - Tamil star Dhanush is back in the form with his latest bilingual blockbuster film Vaathi/Sir. Directed by Venkry Atluri, the action drama film has completed its opening weekend with an excellent box office collection worldwide. ## The movie was released on February 17 and got positive reviews from critics and audiences. It opened to fantastic 11.4 crores gross, before jumping on Saturday for 13.7 crores gross while Sunday witnessed another jump for 14.20 crores gross in Tamil and Telugu languages. ## The domestic opening weekend of Vaathi/Sir saw 39.30 crores in both versions, becoming Dhanush's biggest opening weekend collection film. While the Tamil version was expected to perform well, the Telugu version surprised with the excellent collection.## In Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), SIR scored 16.40 crores gross in the first three days which is bigger than most of the recent Telugu films' lifetime collections. In Tamilnadu, Vaathi grossed 17.65 crores in the opening weekend. In Telugu states, the movie has already achieved the break-even target and heading toward a big blockbuster. ## Overseas, Vaathi/SIR racks in approx. 11 crores for worldwide opening weekend to over 50 crores gross, which is the highest for Dhanush. Los Angeles, February 20 - James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water has officially raced past his own Titanic to become the third highest-grossing film ever at the global box office. ## The sci-fi sequel, released in December last year, has grossed $2.243 billion through 10th Sunday. Titanic, which had grossed $2.194 billion worldwide before a global 3D rerelease earlier this month, now stands at $2.242 billion globally as 4th highest-grossing title ever.## Avatar 2 has raked in $657 million at the domestic (North America) box office, becoming the 9th biggest movie of all time there. Overseas, it has scored $1.59 billion over 52 markets. Los Angeles, February 19 - Marvel Studios/Disney's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has off to a fantastic start at the domestic as well as overseas box office. ## The superhero movie, starring Paul Rudd in the titular role, scored $105.50 million in the 3-day opening weekend at the domestic (North American) box office. It is by far the biggest opening in the Ant-Man franchise, beating the second installment's $75.8 million opening. ## Overseas, the Peyton Reed-directed flick grossed a strong $121.3 million opening weekend over 52 markets. Mumbai, February 19 - The remake of the Telugu movie Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Kartik Aaryan's Shehzada has a low opening weekend at the box office. There were a lot of expectations from this action comedy, especially after the blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, but it couldn't live up to those expectations. ## After scoring 12.65 crores net in the first two days, the Rohit Dhawan-directed scored an estimated 7-7.50 crores net on its first Sunday, pushing the total collection to around 20 crores. Shehzada scored around a 10% jump on Saturday and an almost similar jump is expected on Sunday. ## Meanwhile, Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania witnesses a drop on Sunday for an estimated approx. 8 crores net. The superhero movie scored 17.70 crores net in all languages after jumping around 11% on Saturday. The total collection of Ant-Man 3 is around 26 crores net in 3 days. ## The performance of Ant-Man 3 in India is good but it is nowhere near to the previous MCU films that opened to much better collections. The movie, however, needed a big boost on its second day for a respectable opening weekend but there wasn't much of growth in the biz. ## As per the early estimates, the Rohit Dhawan-directed flick collects around 7 crores net. There might be a few lakhs here and there but the big growth wasn't visible at all. The total collection of Shehzada is approx. 13 crores after the two days and the 3-day weekend is looking at around 20 crores. ## Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, on the other hand, has had a good opening with approx. 9 crores net. However, the letter might take some time to get off the ground. ## Now, according to Peepingmoon.com, the next film in the spy universe after "Tiger 3" will be Hrithik Roshan-fronted "War 2". It is said that the sequel has been written and the pre-production work has already started. Los Angeles, February 18 - On the day of the "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" release, Disney has officially postponed the release date of Marvel Studios' "The Marvels", starring Brie Larson. ## The superhero movie, which was supposed to release on July 28, will now be hitting big screens on November 10, 2023, which is where Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opened last year. Previously, MCU's "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Doctor Strange" were also released in the same month and had a big success. ## "The Marvels", which is directed by Nia DaCosta, is the sequel to the $1.1 billion grossing 2019 title "Captain Marvel". Not much is known about the sequel, however, it's also a bridge from the Disney+/Marvel series WandaVision starring Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel which stars Iman Vellani as the title character. Mumbai, February 17 - Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's Shehzada is heading towards a decent opening day at the box office. As per the early estimates, the action comedy has scored around 7 crores net which might go a little higher depending on the night shows. ## Directed by Rohit Dhawan, Shezada had low pre-sales, however, the spot booking was reasonably better which saves the day for the film. Plus, a holiday on Saturday in the form of Mahashivratri also ensures better night shows. The word of mouth is mixed for the film. ## The advance booking for tomorrow is a little better than the opening day, however, there isn't much growth which could mean a decent opening weekend. The 3-day weekend collection is eyeing 27 crores (+/-) which wasn't even looking anywhere near considering the pre-sales.## Meanwhile, Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania too couldn't get going, though it scored higher than Shehzada. As per the early estimates, the superhero movie scored 9-10 crores net with mixed word of mouth.
